NARAL founder interview: “Abortion’s not love”
Toward the end of the in-depth interview, [Terry] Beatley found herself unexpectedly saying: “If you have a message for America, I will gladly deliver it for you…. I will tell your story, the story of deception but also the story of personal redemption.”
Beatley recalled how Nathanson paused for a moment before replying, “Teach of the strategy of how I deceived America and that the cofounder of NARAL says, ‘Love one another; abortion’s not love. Stop the killing; the world needs more love.’”
~ Excerpt from pro-life activist Terry Beatley’s interview with former abortionist Dr. Bernard Nathanson, Catholic Herald, February 24

A documentary on the life of Dr. Nathanson would be fascinating.
He was an abortionist, and an ardent pioneer in abortion advocacy.
Then he was converted by science into an ardent pro-life advocate. He remained an atheist, secular advocate for the humanity and dignity of children in the womb for a decade.
Late in life, he became a Christian — and continued the pro-life advocacy that he had lived in his secular faith.
His example certainly blows a hole in the terrible myth that pro-lifers are unthinking, unscientific, and easily discounted as religious zealots.
I suppose it’s fitting that what has long been the blissfully-ignorant joy of the pro-aborts is increasingly becoming the pro-lifer’s cross to bear; despite the mounting evidence and history to support such a conclusion, we must be careful to treat pro-aborts as rational, balanced individuals, rather than the “unthinking, unscientific, [easily-discountable] religious zealots” as we are often depicted.
… well, this challenge is presented when we first encounter them individually, at least; once they’ve proven the validity of this unfortunate assertion in their own case and are clearly driven to perpetuate it, I see no reason to address them otherwise. :-P
