Abortion proponents “silenced by choice” on sex-selective abortions
But the embrace of “choice” presented a quandary, which was not all that clear at the time. “Choice” as a value meant that all choices were equal in terms of morality: not only the choice to give life or take it, but all the reasons for which the choice of abortion were made.
Reasons of hardship or health or convenience were accepted as equal, and all were defended. All women’s choices were regarded as wise, since women had made them. Objecting to this was out of the question, as it gave an opening to all of those evil and retrograde social conservatives. It was also, of course, “insulting to women”….
Then came the news that women were using this wisdom in order to end female lives….
In the course of events, every second abortion produces a dead female fetus (which the sisters accept as collateral damage) but this new statistic means something different: the culling of females, because they are female, for no other discernible cause.
… Murder is one thing, but an attack on a group is beyond human decency. Is this a crime against which they will rally? Well, no.
Why not? It’s a “choice” – and choices, of course, must never be questioned, no matter to what ends they lead. Late-term abortion? Terrific. Infant dismemberment? Hardly a problem. Sequential abortion? No problem there.
Abortion as a tool to dispose of unwanted girl children? Now, this is a problem, but liberals have surrendered the right and the standing to make moral judgments. They have found now a choice they despise, and they can’t rail against it. Who would listen to them holding forth on this issue? What in the world would they say?
Ready to fight over a word, wink or whistle, they have no words at all for all those dead females. They are strangled and silenced by “choice.”

They also have a choice to repent – but when they die, that choice dies as well.
Those who focus on themselves miss the consequences their choices bring. And self-focus works like a negative mirror hardening up pride and vanity until looking away is all but impossible.
Abortion does not empower females nor does it combat sexism.
I don’t understand the math here. If every second abortion is female doesn’t that make make and female abortion equal? I’m pro-life, don’t get me wrong, Im just not getting the “female culling” argument here.
Nancy, as I understand this, abortion would on average result in equal numbers. However, the article’s focus is that abortion is *not* resulting in equal numbers because it is being used as a sex selection tool. That is, if a woman finds she is carrying a girl, and daughters are despised in some cultures, then she *chooses* to abort that girl simply because she is a girl.
From the complete Washington Examiner article:
“Scientists believe that, world-over, around 160 million women are “missing,” dispatched (that is, aborted) by their parents, who prefer male children and don’t want superfluous females to clutter their lives.”
I remember watching the Oprah Winfrey show way back in 1989 and the subject was abortion. Pro-lifers, Randall Terry and Judie Brown, were on the panel along with Molly Yard, who was then the President of NOW. A pro-life activist in the audience asked Molly why she did not protect the innocent baby girls in the womb who were targeted because they were female. Molly started fuming, insisting that she only knew of one case which involved an Asian family, and it was too bad, but it was their culture. She then started yelling that the “ONLY” issue was that a woman be able to control her own body and nothing else matters. Feminists have been sweeping this issue under the rug for years. It is nothing new.
Also, in 1989, I was watching the “Today Show” and Jane Pauley was interviewing an abortion doctor who admitted performing sex-selective abortions. He was just so proud of himself for providing this service to women who wanted to abort female fetuses (This was before the days when abortionists were targeted and he freely admitted what he was doing). He then went on to say that most of the women were Asian and that he had talked to other doctors who had noticed this same trend. All the doctors had no problem with this and felt that it was a woman’s “right” by law. 22 years later I remember this and see how we now have the statistics showing Asian populations in the US, Canada, and the UK having less daughters than they should be having and know that it has been a well known phenomenon among abortionists for years and yet they did nothing to combat it. Today, feminists and abortionists are still trying to obfuscate the truth around this issue (Read some feminist blogs if you do not believe me). But, now with the cold, hard evidence and a revitalized Pro-life movement along with information tools like the Internet “sweeping” it under the rug is not so easy anymore.
The statistics of the populations of India and China for example are shocking. In the generation of 20 somethings, there are about 5 males for every 4 females. In a population of one hundred it might not sound so bad, but in populations of millions, wow!!
I used to work with a man from China. He decided when he was just a boy that, no matter what, no matter how, he would go to America. Why? He witnessed his father take his little baby sister down to the river and drown her. Just for being a girl.
Wow ninek, what a story. The statistics indicate the mindset of that father is widespread in some cultures. The silence of the multi-culturalists, who say all cultures are equal, is deafening.
Ninek, that story turns my stomach. I do not understand (thank God) the evil that causes this to happen, and that people will viciously champion to protect -and propogate – that evil. God help us all.
To all the atheists who despise Christianity – look at how well women are treated in non-Christian countries - not. American women will come to deplore the decline of Christianity in the United States when they realize how poorly we will be treated in post-Christian America. Look at China, look at India, look at the Middle East. That is our future.
The Chinese man I knew, I met while working in a restaurant where he was a lowly dishwasher. He’d been a college professor. He had made enough money to eventually leave China. He said, “I’m happier as a dishwasher here than I was as a professor there. This is a better life.” I lost touch with him over the years, but I hope he’s surrounded by a dozen grandchildren today. But yes, I was touched that he held onto his desire to leave for his sister’s sake all those years before he could leave. Up in heaven, his sister must be so pleased that her brother loved her and honored her all his life.
After I saw this quote today I asked one of my pro-choice friends how she would deal with the problem of sex selective abortion and targeting of female fetuses and babies for destruction. Apparently, the pro-choice answer is NOT banning of elective abortion or forcing an equal amount of male and females to be aborted. She didn’t have an answer, but I still can’t get her to see that this is the end result of a society that devalues women through various means, including abortion. I really don’t know how to make her see that. How much worse do things have to get?
Jack,
Honestly, I’m afraid to find out. :( Society’s gotten bad enough as it is – I’m not sure I want to see how bad it gets for pro-aborts to see what’s wrong with abortion.
Lord have mercy – thank you nineck for sharing your story. I really feel for that man – and what great courage to leave there, with conviction.
Abortion and killing of humans – is morally bankrupt – and here we are – years later after these despicable decisions and the wreckage which has resulted. We need to help women/families/society in any way we can, pray always and keep working toward a just society.
feminista: Think of a man, and take away reason and accountability.
I just want to go on record to say that, even now, the collective radical pro abortion worker bee cult is waiting for the talking points to be handed down from their profiteering leaders – the ones that are going to spin this obvious flaw in the logic of ‘choice’ into something ‘acceptable’ for the masses. They’ll have an answer for you all soon, and every feministing, baby killing proponent will be parroting it across the media spectrum. They won’t be silent for long, mark my words.

The memo has already came down. I have read a few feminist takes on this since the “Unnatural Selection” book came out and they are all warning that taking away womens’ “reproductive rights” will only further the devaluation of girls. Me wonders if they really believe this twisted “logic” or if they are just terrified that this issue will be used to get those in the mushy-middle to reconsider the “right to choose”.
Yor, I recognize that from “My Fair Lady”!
Perhaps it also contains Margaret Sanger’s sentiment: “Why can’t a woman be more like a man?!”
Why would women wanna be like men? Most of us are kinda jerks. ;)
Men are some of the biggest pro-aborts out there. Not just leftist men either. You would be shocked at how many libertarian-leaning republican men are pro-abortion. Sad.
Men are told over and over again that we are misogynists if we are pro-life. That is probably a big part of it. Also, I am sure less savory males like the option of that “choice” if they get someone pregnant. Most of the guys I know are more “I won’t get pregnant, so it’s not my business.”

Yes, and I think there are many other reasons why men today tend to be so pro-abortion. I think some people think that because men tend to be republican that it translates into being pro-life, but so not true in my experience! Men and women who are pro-life republicans tend to be more religious and women tend to be more religious than men. However, the libertarian wing of the party is mostly male and hardly any different than Democrats on ”moral issues”. Sure, they don’t want the government to pay for abortions and they may support some minor restrictions, but make no mistake they don”t want abortion outlawed. One thing I have noticed among secular, socially liberal republican men is the whole “could you imagine if we let all those unwanted kids be born? Who would take care of them? They would be such a drag on society!” Elitists in both parties tend to be very pro-abortion, IMHO.
