Jennifer Granholm, Sebelius II?
Americans United for Life has published what it considers the short list of Barack Obama’s prospective Supreme Court nominees to replace retiring David Souter.
Not on its short list but on its “other potential nominees” list is MI Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
The Associated Press just reported:
… Granholm… will be at the White House on Tuesday.
An administration official says the Democratic governor is coming… for an event unrelated to the Supreme Court. It is not clear whether Granholm will be meeting with Obama about the upcoming vacancy on the court….
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because details of Tuesday’s event have not been announced.
Granholm is among more than 6 people Obama is considering for the seat….
The 50-year-old Granholm is a former federal prosecutor and MI attorney general.
The Committee for Justice blog reported this morning:
CFJ has learned from a reliable source that… Granholm, reportedly on President Obama’s Supreme Court short list, boarded a flight from Detroit to… DC last night.
If Granholm is coming to DC for an announcement of her nomination to the Court, we’ll know as soon as this morning. If she’s coming to DC to interview for the job, it serves as confirmation that she is on the short list. In either case, it’s worth taking a look at her record, including the scandals that have plagued her.
CFJ itemizes allegations for corruption as well as “… her veto of state legislation banning partial-birth abortion. The language of the bill she vetoed mirrored the federal ban on partial-birth abortion, which was upheld by the US Supreme Court.”
A citizen petition overrode Sebelius’ veto, thank goodness, but that is really all one needs to know to determine how bad she is on abortion.
In fact this Catholic is an unapologetic abortion and anti-life advocate. Yet here’s a 2006 campaign ad published in 3 Catholic newspapers. Click to enlarge…

Granholm was out front on the human embryo experimentation referendum last year that passed by a heart-breaking 52.6%. For that she helped the other side raise money, even sending personal emails soliciting donations.
Granholm also vetoed a bill to end rubber stamp practices with parental consent in the courts – sponsored by a fellow Wayne Co., albeit pro-life, Democrat.
Granholm has also increased funding to Planned Parenthood and is a poster girl for the pro-abortion group EMILY’s List, which raised her huge amounts of campaign cash.
One MI insider I spoke with doesn’t think Granholm will make the final SC cut but expects Obama to appoint her to a federal court position. She is term-limited as governor next year; has only 18 months left on this job.
But I thought Kathleen Sebelius was too radioactive for Obama to nominate as DHHS secretary either, so who knows? Granholm is definitely a Sebelius II.

when I first started reading this post I thought, “Please don’t tell me she’s a Catholic.”
oh dear Lord.
The chickens have come home to roost. :(
I suspect she may need to re do her tax returns. Her reference to the bible in her campaign is disgusting. Pro deathers have nothing in common with Jesus who shed blood for their sins.
He came to bring Life.
angel, don’t worry. She’s a fake Catholic like Pelosi and Biden!…Oh, and Phil Donahue.
Heather: that’s what worries me!
I guess I can only say that perhaps God is allowing this so that the bishops and the priests will see the terrible harm they have done in watering down the moral teachings of the Catholic Church.
I personally believe that most if not all the Catholic hierarchy in America should do public penance for their woeful neglect of duty.
One can only hope they will find their backbone and soon before the entire church in America crumbles to rack and ruin.
angel, I hear you on that one!
Fake Catholics, who love abortion at it’s most extreme…and happen to be steeped in political controversy? Isn’t that what BO generally looks to surround himself with?
It is human nature to seek out people with whom we can strongly identify. ; )
Jill,
I came across your blog via American Papist just yesterday. I attended the 4/17 March for Life at N.D., but could not attend yesterday. I was frequently looking for updates as I needed to know the events up there. You had the best up-to-date coverage throughout the day across about four other bloggers I followed. Thanks for your dedication and great work. I especially liked the video of the protesters lining the street from I-80–not something that was shown on our local stations here.
I understand Gov. Granholm is going to Washington to discuss alternative energies and greenhouse gases with our Fearless Leader.
Likely more draconian measures against car companies. We’re going to end up driving oversized lawn mowers.
Its not enough she’s run Michigan into the ground and Detroit has become a sinkhole, now she’ll have the opportunity to do the same to the entire country.
I’m from Michigan and worked on the “No on Proposal” campaign last election. Proposal 2 was to allow Embryonic Stem Cell Research, and as Jill said, it passed.
I’ll tell you though, most people in Michigan, including many liberals, can hardly wait for her to reach the term-limit. Of course, we would prefer is she then just retreated back to Canada instead of working for Obama.
Hi Brendan,
My family lives in Michigan. When my elderly mother heard some months ago that Granholm was going to be on some economic advisory panel for Obama, she about fell off her chair in hysterical laughter.
Talk about the blind leading the blind.

Yep, she’s a far left liberal and pro abortion extremist. Just like Barry’s other friends.
With Obama, it’s not what he says that counts, but what he does that’s important.
His ND speech was hypocritical at the least, hoping for “common ground” and a “civilized tone”. What hypocrisy!
Since when has there NOT been a debate about abortion in this country? Where has he been for the last 40 years?
But again, this is what he says. What he does is appoint people who are pro-infanticide to his cabinet and, possibly, to the Supreme Court.
I personally don’t think Granholm will be named to the SCOTUS, but like it was alluded to, expect her name to be brought up again soon.
I thought Obama was all for “reaching across the aisles.” How many prolifers has he tapped for positions?
Carla,
“I thought Obama was all for “reaching across the aisles.” How many prolifers has he tapped for positions?”
That was just a campaign promise. You know most of them are quickly forgotten when the election is over.
Janet,
I guess I want to actually believe in the promises others make. Silly me.
Would someone mind editing this post and putting Catholic in Quotes?
With a record like that she only qualifies as a “Catholic,” not a Catholic.
Yes, should be a Sebelius II:
1. Qualified candidate proposed by Obama.
2. Campaign of smears and lies by far right.
3. Posturing by the RushLimbicans-the party of no, no brains, and no ideas.
4. Routine confirmation.
Sebelius II.
Bystander 7:29am
LOL. Stop your whining about how this is a “qualified candidate” that is just being picked on. Take it from us Michiganders, this woman is a total incompetent.
Also Bystander,
There’s the likelihood she’s only there to discuss “green” energy and even stricter standards on the already failing auto industry, guaranteeing the city of Detroit will remain a sinkhold and Michigan will continue on its trip down the crapper.
Quite honestly, we Michiganders would love nothing more than for her to stay in Washington. You better worry though as she might do to the country what she’s done to Michigan.
Off topic, but important.
Regarding Obama’s massive credit card reform – I just heard on the news that credit card companies may start calculating interest starting the day of purchase. As I understand it, interest will be charged even if the card is paid off at the first billing. How is this good for consumers?

In conversation, I’ve heard these CINO’s called “catholics with a small c, not a capital c”. I’m not sure how widespread this practice is.
Mary,
I feel so sorry for those of you in Michigan whose economy is deteriorating. I’m shocked that California’s breadbasket has been shut down to save a tiny little fish. The water pipeline has been turned off. Thousands of farm workers are jobless and fertile soil is parched. Export revenues are lost. Foreign vendors are going elsewhere for their crops. What’s with THAT?? Ecologist lobby , wake up!
Hi Janet.
How is this good for consumers?
It’s not. But it’s easier to justify increased government control of banks when the people are outraged, isn’t it?
On a lighter note, I can’t help myself from posting this Obama credit card vid.

Fed Up,
I watched your video.
First I’ll laugh,
Obama may take away flyer miles and other perks. I know there are lots of Obama voters who will be sad when the FREE trips are gone. (I don’t have one of those airline lies cards, yay.)
Then, I’ll cry,
If I have to, I’ll go back to writing checks and many others will, to avoid the interest charges that will accrue upon date of purchase. Of course the credit card companies will have to reorganize since people have pretty much stopped writing checks, costing the consumer more money eventually.
This must be what Obama meant by “economic stimulus” – and the Libs called ND’s events “a circus”? Tell, me – how is this being productive?
