Carhart compares Tiller to MLK, pro-lifers to KKK
From the Washington Times today, some remarkable statements by sloven late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart:
![]()
Dr. LeRoy Carhart, one of the nation’s few providers of late-term abortions, called on the federal government to treat as hate crimes all activities by “anti-choice domestic terrorists,” compared the slain Dr. George Tiller to Martin Luther King and said planting crosses was equivalent to actions by the Ku Klux Klan.
“This is the equivalent of Martin Luther King being assassinated,” Dr. Carhart said of the May 31 slaying of one of America’s best-known late-term abortion providers. “This is the equivalent of Pearl Harbor, the sinking of the Lusitania and any other major historic event where we’ve tolerated the intolerable for too long.”…
“I think there is absolutely no difference in putting a cross in front of a person’s home because of what race they belong to than there is putting a cross in front of our homes because we do abortions,” said Dr. Carhart, who assisted Dr. Tiller in providing late-term abortions at his Wichita, KS, practice every 3 weeks.
Dr. Carhart’s abortion clinic, based near Omaha, NE, performs almost 2k abortions a year, though he cannot perform them after 24 weeks’ gestation because NE law forbids post-viability abortions. Dr. Carhart, who was the plaintiff in both the Supreme Court decisions on partial-birth abortion, could not say what will be the Wichita clinic’s fate.
“I just got off the phone with Mrs. Tiller,” he said, “and I know no decisions have been made about anything. What I want to assure the press and reassure the women of America is that we will somehow, somewhere continue to provide abortions later in gestation.”
(“Assure the press”?)
Dr. Carhart, 67, was in Washington for a memorial service Monday evening at National City Christian Church in honor of Dr. Tiller.
About 300 people attended the service and heard Dr. Carhart talk about his late friend.
In a quivering voice and apologizing for losing his composure, Dr. Carhart spoke of Dr. Tiller’s early life as a pots-and-pans salesman. He said Dr. Tiller’s motto was that “when the going gets tough, the tough get Dairy Queen.”
The mood quickly turned serious, though, as Dr. Carhart’s voice broke, and he pleaded with the crowd to treat “anti-choice domestic crimes as crimes of hate.”
Observing the crowd were US marshals and also a private security detail that was hired for the occasion, said Marjorie Signer, communications director for the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. These observers were stationed at the entrances and also seated in the pews.
Speaking earlier at an afternoon news conference organized by the coalition, which encompasses 40 denominations and religious groups, he said the matter of whether to have a child is “a religious freedom issue” that revolves around a woman’s right to decide according to her beliefs whether to bear a child, he said.
“God gave that fetus a ‘guardian ad litem’ when he chose the mother that fetus is born with,” he said. “That mother, I feel, has been charged by God to make the right choices for that child during its unborn and early born years.”
(Is Carhart here advocating the freedom to commit infanticide? Yes. And has a “guardian ad litem” ever opted to kill his or her charge? This man is crazy. Where is MSM?)
Dr. Carhart said he considered becoming a Methodist minister at one point, and at the press conference blamed the pro-life movement and its churches for a decline in religion.
“Not that we’ve lost religion,” he clarified, “because a lot of these religions are fostering these horrific ideas,” referring to killing abortion providers….

. “That mother, I feel, has been charged by God to make the right choices for that child during its unborn and early born years.”
What a sicko. :( Why doesn’t anyone care?
I feel like the world is nuts!!!
Abortionists, and the people who support them, are a few egg rolls short of a chinese dinner!
The east side abortionist is a paranoid nut job. His name is Martin Ruddock, and my friend, a pastor, has been in front of his clinic since 1996. He has talked with some of Ruddock’s former employees. Many have remarked that he was “difficult to work for, because he was always angry and paranoid.”
I am impatiently waiting for stories from women who have been hurt at Tiller’s. What about Christin Gilbert? What about all of the babies? Does anyone know of any links to what abortion was REALLY like at Tiller’s??
These people have finally lost any semblance of sanity they may have at one point had. I think that the fact that fewer people than they would’ve liked or imagined are actively grieving for Mr. Tiller has become their telltale heart, and they can’t hear themselves speak for all the noise. Let’s at least be a little consistent here, people. First you all try to debate me, “KEEP YOUR ROSARIES OFF MY OVARIES!”. I point out that I infact do not have a rosary, and now people like this guy are talking about how aboriton is a religious issue. MAKE UP YOUR MINDS, GUYS. “Assure the media…” I guess vultures not only prey on the weak that have fallen, but are not above feeding on one of their own, huh? This man’s death has been used to the ends of the pro-aborts more than Rosie O’Donnel’s talcum powder in July. I’m almost curious to see them try and make their case in court that these instances should be classified as “hate crimes”. What exact religious group are they collectively, praytell? Their rhetoric is going so frantic, it’s all over the place at this point. I’d like to see them explain the many, many, MANY ethnic, philosophical, religious, and whatever other demographic you choose groups that encompass the pro-life movement vs. their movement. No, Carhart, being brainwashed by liberal propaganda does not count as having religion.
RE; Carharts speech…HUH? How many cocktails did he consume before he hit the podium? Think about this. Warren Hern and Carhart are crying over the loss of their friend’s LIFE, and rightfully so, but they miss the obvious. Life is precious, and Tiller, Carhart, and Hern have taken that gift from so many people. Innocent children. Also, Dr. Martin Luther King was PL!! His niece Alveda King has told the black race “You [black abortion patients] have become your own KKK!”
Mr Carhart, how many women’s lives did you ruin? Oh, that’s right, after she leaves the office, that’s it. You’ll never see her again unless it’s for another abortion, or contraception. I’m with Bethany. The whole darned world lost it!…………. Carla, e-mails today for sure. Something came up yesterday!
Something else to pull apart. PLfers are like the KKK? Then why would we be trying to save African American babies? Why do we have AA’s in our PL group?
only a seriously disturbed man would compare pro lifers (many whom are African American because of Alveda King and also because of the Black Pro Life Union) to the KKK! I am sure if Martin Luther King had not been assassinated, and if he were alive today, he would have thrown his “award” from PP right back at them once he knew they were aborting black babies at an alarming rate.
In a quivering voice and apologizing for losing his composure, Dr. Carhart spoke of Dr. Tiller’s early life as a pots-and-pans salesman.—————————————————————– He should have stuck to that. He missed his calling.
Carla, http://www.george-tiller.com
Also, I have an article from 1991 in which Tiller’s own spokesperson admits that 3/4 of his late term patients were teenagers who simply hid their pregnancies until they became obvious.
So much for those ‘hard cases.’
I’m working to get permission to put up the article publically. For now, anyone who would like to see it can ask me to email you a copy.
I guess class they left out basic history in Abortion 101!
oops *should not say they^^ above post.
Laure, I would like to see it.
http://dr-tiller.com/
This is a site that listed some of the more horrific things from the abortuary, like talking about his Crematory and how one time protesters outside had the ashes from the dead babies fall on them, and how they could even smell human flesh one time.
Something else to pull apart. PLfers are like the KKK? Then why would we be trying to save African American babies? Why do we have AA’s in our PL group?
Litmus test: one side is directly responsible for the action of killing African Americans based on (at least) age discrimination, the other side is not. The other side simply espouses a philosophy that does not agree. Which is more of an act of hate?
So lost.
Gag me with a spoon……..
I feel like the world is nuts!!!

you feel like the world is nuts? It IS nuts!
There is a real danger here that this situation will be turned against Christians and prolifers. Cathcart is portraying Christians as the enemy of American women. Women have the freedom decide to have a baby – they make that decision BEFORE getting into bed.
He and others are also (dangerously and incorrectly) portraying the belief in the sanctity of human life as a hate crime in the same way that gays in Canada and Sweden etc, have succeeded in labelling the belief against the practice of homosexuality and the homosexual lifestyle, a hate crime.
One can see now what it starting to happen worldwide. The liberal elite are beginning to entrench their ideology in society through the imposition of draconian laws. It is not enough to ride along on “choice”. The only correct choice is their liberal choice of abortion, homosexuality etc.
It will simply be impossible to practice our Christian religion. We must pray and work against this or there will be many, many martyrs in the years to come.
Whoa. And they call US crazy??
LizfromNebraska,
Thank you for the website link. EVERYONE should be reading it. The blog author has done the research!!
Although now I am completely sick to my stomach.
Baby Sarah was beautiful. She is the baby that was given a shot in the head instead of the heart to kill her.
THE TRUTH IS ON OUR SIDE!
And because PP puts their clinics in poor minority neighborhoods more likely to be inhabited by AFRICAN AMERICANS. Hmm, coincidence?
Anonymous,
Pick a name. You will continue to be deleted until you do so. You already know that though don’t you?
re Carhart *big, loud yawn*
Anybody know of any updates to this essay? http://www.abortionessay.com/files/Tiller.html
Thanks!
No, they are placed there because of the racist agenda strategy of their founder, Margaret Sanger. She wanted to “eliminate the Negro Race”. Its deliberate. They are VERY SLY when it comes to putting their “clinics” in large cities, but they deliberately place them in the poorer neighborhoods under the disguise of being “needed” when they aren’t. Its one thing to offer needed Pap smears and yearly exams, its another to draw the women in and then put them on the pill and then when that FAILS, offer them a solution to their “unwanted pregnancy”.
Luhra Tivis used to work at Tiller’s mill. She testified at the Pro-Life Action League’s “Meet The Abortion Providers” conference about what it was like to work for him: http://prolifeaction.org/providers/tivis.htm
Has anyone heard of this site, http://iamdrtiller.com, it’s a website celebrating Tiller’s as a hero for his work and vilifying pro-lifers.
Someone ought to create a website to counter this & entitle it something like therealdrtiller.com, featuring topics such as news stories of women who were injured & killed at his clinic, the original document & charges of illegal abortions brought against him by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts, and stories of moms with a poor prenatal diagnosis who carried to term despite pressure from loved ones & doctors who pressured them to abort. Also links to organizations like Clinicworker.com, the Society of Centurians, Be Not Afraid, and Prenatal/Perinatal Hospice. Anyone good with web design skills interested? I don’t have the time to do the HTML coding, but would be glad to come up with the material and write the pages.
Rachael C.
Rachel C. How horrible!
Corrina,
Thank you for the link. It was horrifying to read but the truth of what went on at Tiller’s clinic WAS horrifying!!
Corrina, I just read the account you linked. May God have mercy on us.
Tiller also claims that only .006 of his abortions were performed because the woman needed a medically indicated induction.
Jill:
This was a difficult read.
The evidence of a reprobate mind in the people that have convinced themselves that abortion is a “right” and a “good” thing is plentiful. They have now invaded the inner sanctum of the church. We should all be weeping my friends for the deception is nearly complete.
This was especially hard to take: ‘”God gave that fetus a ‘guardian ad litem’ when he chose the mother that fetus is born with,” he said. “That mother, I feel, has been charged by God to make the right choices for that child during its unborn and early born years.”‘
So I am now to understand that God allows a conception with certain mothers knowing that could mean the “right” choice is the choice to terminate the unborn baby? Or, that a mother can make the “right” choice as well to terminate an “early born” child as well? Next to the unforgivable sin mentioned in the New Testament, this is probably the most blasphemous statement I have ever read. So God now advocates the termination of children?
If anyone has the connection, I would like to hear Dr. Nathanson’s response to Carhart’s words.

HisMan, I am confused what is blasphemous. God gives everyone free will. He intends for every soul He puts here to be here, but some people make the wrong choices.

*****************
That’s 360 out of 60,000 abortions…
I’d honestly be suprised if even that many were performed due to a risk to the mother’s health.
Why would any hospital send a woman to Tiller’s death camp when they could just induce labor in their maternity ward?
Great point. An abortion mill would be needed, however, if the reason was for that nice little loophole of “mental or emotional health.” (or financial?)
If they had been legit cases, a hospital would have done it, most definitely.
Update up thread. Tiller’s clinic to stay closed for good!
I am African American and am extremely offended by Carhart’s statement about MLK. I heard Alveda King speaking at our local prolife dinner here last November. She is not only prolife but is a post-aborted woman. She was wonderful.
Here in Philadelphia almost 50 percent of African American infants are aborted. If prolifers were so racist, why would we be trying to bring this rate down instead of celebrating it? So who is being “klannish?”
Almost everything should be in quotation marks because it is almost all fraud and fallacy.
For instance:
“Religious” Coalition (it is a coalition) For “Reproductive” “Choice”
Nonreligious Coalition For Abortion Crime
“News” conference
Disinformation Conference
Killing a child is a “religious” “freedom” “issue”
Wrong on all three.
Killing a human being is antireligious, it is contrary to any rational understanding of freedom and is not an issue since we long ago proved that it is a crime.
The basic problem: just about everything the abortionists say is either a lie or a fallacy.
I have never ceased to be amazed at their dishonesty and irrationality.
The unhappy reality is that a certain segment of the human population believes in this nonsense that they are always pushing. No sane person would buy the absurd “arguments” of Tiller, Carhart and the RCRC.
Phillymiss, My pastor got to meet Alveda King!
HisMan,
I just reread that it was Carhart’s quote and not Jill’s. Sorry, tired Mom here. Although, as a mother, I always felt it is my job as a mother to care for and make decisions for my child. I guess between that and being interrupted constantly by little people, I am not reading things clearly.
To make abortion OK, you take some truth and twist it to sound as if it is God’s will.
The problem in philly is too many poor, young single women getting pregnant. Too many absent dads. Too many grandmas raiising grandchildren. I read in the paper daily what kinds of families the criminals and crime victims come from. Its scary and sad. Address that. Don’t blame PP for trying to help.
Posted by: Anonymous at June 9, 2009 11:15 AM
Anon, did you read what Phillymiss said?
How is that helping? Violence does not solve problems, it creates more violence.
PP’s idea of trying to help is “eliminating the Negro race”, “Anonymous”. They have no intention of offering REAL help.
Thank you PhillyMiss.
I would LOVE to meet Alveda King. I hope someday she’s a speaker after Lincoln’s Walk for Life (we have a rally afterwards with a Pro Life speaker. One year we had Bobby Schindler.)
Reading HisMan’s comment on Carhart’s statement: “God gave that fetus a ‘guardian ad litem’ when he chose the mother that fetus is born with,” he said. “That mother, I feel, has been charged by God to make the right choices for that child during its unborn and early born years.”
So in the context of Psalm 139, God carefully FORMED us or KNIT us with His own powerful, loving hands (try to imagine that with me) so that the mother will make the “right choice” of giving CONTROL to an abortionist who will then chop us to pieces or suck our brains out?? Is that right, Mr. Carhart??
Rachael C.
Did you check out http://www.dr-tiller.com
This is truly evil, but this site has Carhart’s own words as to how he performs an abortion.
It’s sickening and something most reasonable people would object to an animal being treated this way!
These are babies!

That’s exactly right. Abortion has gone from being “safe, legal and rare” to “good” and a “blessing” such as what the “reverend” ragsdale said recently.
It’s unbelievable.
“God gave that fetus a ‘guardian ad litem’ when he chose the mother that fetus is born with,” he said. “That mother, I feel, has been charged by God to make the right choices for that child during its unborn and early born years.”
This is truly an abomination. Not only does this sound like justifying infanticide but it seems to give the impression God does not consider abortion a sin.
It’s a grave sin and wicked.
The Bible clearly states that God is not mocked. How long can this sort of thing go on?
As to where is the “mainstream media” on this, there is only state run media now thanks to Barry, with the exception of Fox.
The only media I could see covering this is Bill OReilly on Fox and/or Newsbusters.
Otherwise there will be a total media blackout.
Please pray for Dr. Carhart that his heart will be changed and he will stop doing abortions. He seems to be grasping at straws to rationalize the irrational. He and Tiller must have relied on the other’s support immensely and Carhart, in his grief, might be ripe for conversion, with God’s grace and mercy.

Anon, I am a social worker and I address these problems DAILY. However, when these women have abortions, they go back to the same situations, and they are very likely to get pregnant again. We need to tackle the root causes of poverty and crime. And please don’t tell me about Bush, conservatives, etc., because I’m neither Republican nor a conservative.
Excellent points, Phillymiss. And you’re absolutely right: the root causes need to be tackled.
This is ridiculous: but, then again, Carhart is a bigot so it is foolish to get worked up by anything that spews from his hateful mouth.
I suppose that it isn’t much better of me, though, to be so angry. I should pray for him. We all should.
Phillymiss,
While I commend you for your service to your community, I don’t understand why these problems persist. Why don’t the grandmothers refuse in advance to take care of grandchildren born out of wedlock? They are enablers. Poverty and crime do not cause unwanted pregnancies, unless the crime is rape – even then the chance of a rape victim becoming pregnant after a rape is quite slim. Tough love is in order. Isn’t that what Bill Cosby was proposing a few years ago?
“We need to tackle the root causes of poverty and crime.”
Education is the antidote to poverty and crime, IMHO.
And instead of throwing money at the symptoms of the problem, which is what PP and the like are taking care of, federal money should be going towards teachers’ salaries and text books.

I just read LaDonna’s experience at Tiller’s. She also got to meet Carhart. Horrifying.
“…we’ve tolerated the intolerable for too long.”
===========================
I think he got it backwards…
Pansy:
Blasphemy is attributing evil to God.
Carhard said, ‘””That mother, I feel, has been charged by God to make the right choices for that child during its unborn and early born years.”‘
Think about it. Carhart was accusing God of participating in an evil act.
Carhart: “There’s no difference between us and oppressed blacks.”
Unless you count the fact that you, y’know, *killed* people.
In a way Carhart was right by saying, ‘”That mother, I feel, has been charged by God to make the right choices for that child during its unborn and early born years.”‘
However, there a problem in that he did not complete the thought whigh should have been, ‘”That mother, I feel, has been charged by God to make the right choices for that child during its unborn and early born years……which must never include the choice to terminate it but to love it, nurture it and let it grow into the image and likeness of God as He intended”‘.
A half-truth is a whole lie.
Carhard said, ‘””That mother, I feel, has been charged by God to make the right choices for that child during its unborn and early born years.”‘

Absolutely. That is why what he said is so vile.
I love it when you quote the moonie magazine – the washington times…it just signals “credibility!”
He brought up God?? Wow! I thought it was a political issue.
Carla, I have seen dr-tiller.com, however while it’s format and approach appeals to prolifers, it’s approach is too outright political if we are to reach out to those undecided or on the fence. What if we have a website similiar in layout to their own & a more neutral appearance (eventhough it will be prolife), more subtle if you will.
…but with the same message
OK. Rachael. I am still looking around at the sites that are out there. Not the “hero” sites. :)
“Luhra Tivis used to work at Tiller’s mill. She testified at the Pro-Life Action League’s “Meet The Abortion Providers” conference about what it was like to work for him: http://prolifeaction.org/providers/tivis.htm“
Corrina, thanks. Everybody should read Tivis’s testimony. The real Tiller emerges, unlike how the MSM has portraying him.
“Has anyone heard of this site, http://iamdrtiller.com, it’s a website celebrating Tiller’s as a hero for his work and vilifying pro-lifers.”
Rachael, All,
I wonder why they are covering their faces at iamtiller.com ? It kind of reminds of how terrorist’s act, they cover their faces too.
An awful lot of hate here from such wonderful Christian people. But then I suppose you feel you are entitled – no reason to love thy neighbors or anything. Blech!
Sad,
You call ‘disagreeing’ with what Carhart said as ‘hate’??
