MSM scoffs at “Black Children are an Endangered Species” billboard campaign
I have a post up today at BigJournalism.com, taking on the New York Times for biased writing against the “Black Children are an Endangered Species” billboard campaign. It begins…
On January 25 a whopping 62 billboard signs sprang up in African-American neighborhoods in Atlanta, GA, all with the same message: “Black Children are an Endangered Species.” The web link provided, “toomanyaborted.com,” gave a clue why.
The 2 groups sponsoring the campaign, Georgia Right to Life and the Radiance Foundation, intended the signage to be provocative. Black genocide demands attention….
MSM, led by the New York Times on February 5, was quick to notice the billboard campaign, if only to disparage it as “contrary [to] federal data” showing “little evidence that abortions had made black children unusually endangered.”…

Hello,
I am trying to do some research and was wondering if you could help. Has a study been done showing the correlation between the location of Planned Parenthood centers and income levels and racial breakdown? If so, and you know about it, could you please forward it over? If not, this would be incredibly useful for a lot of people. Thanks a lot,
JJ
PP will say they are in minority neighborhoods for birth control. But really what is happening is that abortion becomes their birth control as they get lazy about practicing bc. The welfare system has destroyed their sense of family and children became a source of income tnanks to the Great Society. I worked as a social worker then in GA.
Let’s remember that the welfare money was flowing to these neighborhoods and PP was able to tap into that by setting up clinics to do bc and get that “pass through” money from the govt. Then as abortion became legal there was another revenue stream. The stream continues.
Let’s compare some quotes and then consider their authors.
1. “The best way to hate a nigger is to hate him before he’s born.”
2. “The campaign for birth control is not merely of eugenic value, but is practically identical with the final aims of eugenics.”
3. “little evidence that abortions had made black children unusually endangered.”
Though these quotes are of three separate authors, they are of one mind and black heart.
The first is the notorious Judge/political boss/racist Leander Perez of Plaquemines Parish, LA. Perez was excommunicated from the Catholic Church by Archbishop Joseph Rummel for his filthy deeds that culminated in a terror campaign aimed at preventing the Church from integrating its schools.
The second is from our Satanic prom queen, Margaret Sanger. For a series of articles loaded with Sanger’s writings:
http://gerardnadal.com/category/margaret-sanger/
The third is the New York Times quote Jill mentions above. Of the three, I have the most respect for Leander Perez, as respect between bitter enemies goes in war. He didn’t try to wrap his hatred in the sugar coating of Sanger’s ‘concern’ for the poor, or a pseudo-scientific veneer of statistics as the NYT.
Perez just puts it right out there for all the world to see. Not only does he proclaim his hatred, but proclaims the best way to hate. His is the easiest target to identify on the battlefield. Sanger and the Times are better at camouflage.
In the end, Perez repented of his hatred and was reconciled with God and the Catholic Church. Having been forgiven, I have no doubt that today he is in Paradise.
I’m less optimistic about Sanger.
The folks at the Times still have a chance.
Numbers such as those presented by Jill will not persuade the worst among us because Jill is being rational, and they are animated by hatred, which cannot be assuaged by facts, but only by surrender to the Holy Spirit.
Just ask Perez.
JJ Wright,
I’m not familiar with any such studies, though I would make a couple of suggestions.
1. Go to Jill’s side bar and click on ‘Top Sites’. There are links to organizations that might be able to help you.
You may wish to perform your own study (and get it published).
The best way to do it is by using Census Tracts. Here’s a link to a page about Census Tracts:
http://library.csun.edu/mfinley/census90.html
From te link:
“What is a Census Tract?
“A census tract is a small statistical subdivision of a county. Census tract data allows a user to find population and housing statistics about a specific part of an urban area. This is particularly important when you want information about part of a city, such as Northridge or other communities in the San Fernando Valley which are part of the City of Los Angeles. A single community may be composed of several census tracts.”
Census tract data will answer all of your questions.
Good luck and God Bless.
I think that what the New York Times meant was that the population of African American children isn’t declining. They meant that they’re not on the verge of being wiped out as an ethnic group.
Did you happen to see Jimmy Kimmel’s joke about the Tim Tebow advertisement? It’s funny:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_8NwD9_EVA&feature=popular
Little evidence? The AA community has lost its place as the largest minority in the U.S., thanks largely to the number one killer of blacks: abortion, and the vacuum 50 million dead has created which immigrant workers fill. Though PP & their ilk are targeting the immigrants as well, if the black community alone would open its eyes to the truth of the abortion, it could bring the industry to a screeching halt. Everyone in America needs to see Maafa21.
A beautiful side note, for Ed (& anyone else!) http://www.xpmedia.com/n10p4Efire6o

Correct, the “endangered species” ad is simply false and misleading. If you want to say “abortion is wrong,” or “too many African American women are getting abortions,” that’s fine. But, as I have pointed out every time this topic comes up, the African American population is rising. Why the pro-life movement wants to lose credibility with such a strange lie is beyond me.
And contrary to the data, most celebrities are not going naked rather than wearing fur.
Wow!
Thank you klynn!
I needed that inspirational boost over lunch.
What a Loving Heavenly Father we have!
Even though we live in this sin-sick, corrupt world, He uses our tests and trials to shape us into the image of His Son.
We just need to stay on The Painter’s Easel, The Potter’s Wheel.
And if we find we’ve strayed, we just need to run back into His Loving Arms, His Warm Embrace.
He is So Good!
If you look at it from the individual fetal african american’s point of view (which I’m sure those who support legal abortion are quite incapable of doing or else they wouldn’t support such a barbaric practice), looking at the statistics, you’d probably feel pretty “endangered”.
No, Hal, they ARE endangered. The clinics that strategically placed in poor minority neighborhoods (now why would they do that?) And then there are the women who are manipulated into contraceptive use and then abortions when the “protection” fails.
You don’t see it because you don’t have a PROBLEM with abortion.
Children with disabilities are also endangered, especially ones that MAY have Downs (You have to wonder how many babies that pre diagnosed as Downs turn out to be “normal” but are aborted because of the diagnosis?)
Good points, Vannah and Hal. (Hi, by the way.)
Hal: as I have pointed out every time this topic comes up, the African American population is rising. Why the pro-life movement wants to lose credibility with such a strange lie is beyond me.
Indeed. We’re going to have new Census figures here pretty soon, but through the 1990s, leading up to the 2000 Census, the birth rate for blacks was around 34% higher than for whites.
My wife teaches High School in the Atlanta area, and I just returned from the Southland to the snowy and frozen north today. In Atlanta, both blacks and whites know the black birth rate is higher. Is anybody pretending this is some big “mystery”?
The way to lessen the number of abortions is to do better with preventing unwanted pregnancies.
For a black woman who is pregnant, what is she to think? “Bunch of white folks trying to tell me what to do, when we’re already having more babies than they are?”
As an aside here – my wife’s students are 90+% black, and as a group they tend to be more heavily Christian than do whites. Last figures I saw showed that the higher black birth rate is not uniform across women of childbearing age.
When you look at slightly older, more-educated blacks, more well-to-do (or even just middle-class) blacks, the difference between them and their white peers is much less, as far as the birthrate. My opinion – it logically follows that younger people will tend to have more unwanted pregnancies (their situation and desires aren’t as conducive to having kids), and if there is more hesitancy to have abortions due to religion, then that probably would account for some of the disparity between the abortion rates for black teens and white teens, for example.

Hal – logically your claim is a non-sequitur. Even if you provided a wonderfully valid citation that showed that the African American population was on the rise – how does that refute the claim that too many African Americans are being aborted and that particular ethnic community is being targeted for auto-genocide?
What’s your reasoning?
A black woman is supposed to think, “Why are they targeting my people? Why do they move their abortion mills, into my neighborhoods hand out the pills and condoms and kill our children as if that is the BEST they can offer me?”
Praying the African American people WAKE UP and boot PP out of their neighborhoods!!! The niece of Martin Luther King Jr., Alveda King has much to say about the slaughter of her people.
Women, ALL women deserve better than abortion.
Women, ALL women deserve better than abortion.
Agreed. :)

Well hold on there. You’re changing the claim. The claim wasn’t too many African Americans are being aborted,” the claim was African Americans are an endangered species. You can claim too many African American babies are being aborted all you want. In fact, I specifically said that at 9:43 a.m.
(hi Doug!)

Hal – Personally, I’m averse to the use of the term “species” (rightfully our species is homo-sapiens), but think it was deliberately over the top as an advertising hook. The TooManyAborted.com site makes a case for why they characterize Black American children as endangered.
However, in your response you said:
This is what I’m addressing as a claim of yours. It’s about births, while the abortion stats are about deaths. Just because the common point is a woman’s uterus doesn’t mean the rise in population has anything to do with the abortion rate.
In fact, after I had posted my last message I thought what you were saying, and frankly Hal, it comes across as disturbing. You might want to seriously reconsider why you “raise this every time the topic comes up”. It can come across as inferring something you did not intend, and others who read it won’t have the history of discussions we’ve had.
Chris, I’m missing your point I think. I raise this every time it comes up because it’s just crazy to base your arguments on the mistaken assertion that abortion is wiping out the black race. Your abortion stats are about deaths, you say, but you want to make your arguments based on birth rates. There is nothing troubling about the African American birth rates. What you guys find troubling is the abortion rates. That has nothing to do with “genocide” or “endangering” the “species.”
Gerard N., your comment referring to the infamous Margaret Sanger as our little “satanic prom queen” is cracking me up.
It makes me think of Carrie (of Stephen King fame).
—abortion becomes their birth control as they get lazy about practicing bc. The welfare system has destroyed their sense of family and children became a source of income tnanks to the Great Society.—
you may have been a social worker but i have to seriously question your characterizations of Black people.
i am white but belong to an interracial family, have a grandchild of African descent, and have lived most of my life in a poor majority-Black inner city community. have also been a social worker/pregnancy counselor in this context.
the notion of Black people as sexually and reproductively feckless and “lazy” is a pernicious stereotype straight from the pages of eugenics.
it is not “laziness” behind so many abortions in the Black community, but a whole constellation of genocidal problems/results of ongoing systemic racism like poverty, chaotic and poor housing situations, lack of access to vital health services like free/afforable contraception and prenatal care, the ruthless criminalization of young Black men, unemployment and lack of living wage jobs, constricted educational opportunities, high levels of family and community violence, etc, etc…..
as for the myth of “the Great Society welfare system” causing all these problems…US welfare benefits are unbelievably stingy, and always have been.
if anything, i have witnessed the *utter dedication* of Black families to their children against all odds…on the whole dealing far better, more compassionately and resiliently with women and children of crisis pregnancies, and this on the slenderest of resources–in contrast to many white families who have every wealth and advantage but will throw their pregnant daughters and unborn grandkids into the street unless the young women submit to abortion to spare them the socalled “shame.”
one of the biggest barriers to Black self-sufficiency is the hogging of wealth by richer whitefolks who complain about getting “robbed” via taxation to meet their human responsibilities to the poorest and most vulnerable…responsibilities the government needs to exercise far more, not less.
no matter how much you want or try, you can’t pull yourselves up by your bootstraps if you’re too poor to buy the crappiest shoes.
i’d like to plunk whitefolks who complain about “welfare dependency” straight down in the middle of my community without any other resources and see how you all do, how many days you would last…the average cash grant wouldn’t cover the cost of even a tiny studio apartment…
my take on the genocide controversy:
http://nonviolentchoice.blogspot.com/2010/02/black-genocide.html
Marysia,
“One of the biggest barriers to black self sufficiency is the hogging of wealth by richer white folks who complain about getting robbed, etc.etc.
Puh-leeze. Spare us this class warfare claptrap.
Ever study Malcolm X, a man I greatly admire? Check out what he had to say about black people waiting on handouts from white folks. He had only the most seething contempt for the whole mentality.
You might also do some serious study of the history of black Americans before and after slavery. You will find a history of people who, when denied access to “white” schools established their own, producing students that were second to none.
YOu will find people who despite the daily humiliation of Jim Crow and the terror of the Klan, proved themselve remarkably resilient, resourceful, and successful. The black family was very strong. Black Americans owned businesses, farms, established middle and upper class neighborhoods, established churches, and instituions of advanced learning. This is only a small sample of their remarkable accomplishments.
They certainly didn’t wait around for gov’t programs or white people to give them handouts.
Show me Marysia where gov’t programs have done anyone, black or white, any good.
In fact let me name a few programs I am convinced destroyed black communities and families.
1. Forced busing, based on the patronizing mentality that black children need to be with white children. Black and white parents objected to this but the do-gooders, among them Ted Kennedy, who sent their own children to private schools to avoid busing, prevailed. Parents lost control of schools, people moved, communities and neighborhoods were disrupted. Social engineering triumphs again.
2. Urban renewal, often dubbed “Negro removal” that mostly demolished “poor” and minority neighborhoods, forcing people into housing projects which were nothing more than human warehouses. Again, the destruction of family, neighborhood, and community ties.
Why after spending trillions of tax dollars on the “war on poverty” do we have poverty?
The answer should be obvious. Gov’t programs are good only for inefficiency, waste, bloated bureaucracies, failed social policy and little else.
Thanks Mary for your post. Excellent books by an A. A. prolifer who was a self-professed former welfare queen and a post-abortive woman Star Parker read her books “Pimps, Whores and Welfare Brats”, Uncle Sam’s Planation” and “White Ghetto”. “Uncle Sam’s Plantation” is an excellent expose’ on how the welfare system and PP has helped to destroyed the black family, encouraged promiscuous sex, irresponsibility, abortion on demand, fatherlessness and dependence on the government.
So, who’s waging class warfare?
it’s mostly wealthy white people who deny educational equity, hiring, training, decent safe working conditions, and living wages to poor people, disabled people, and people of color. we have every right to fight back through any nonviolent means necessary.
i write professionally on Black history. am well aware of Black people’s resourcefulness and self-relaince (see above on crisis pregnancies). but the fact that Black people have done their best with very little is no excuse for keeping slender resources slender as possible.
give you an example where govt programs did any good? well, how about the tremendous help that wic and medicaid did for our family when our daughter had a crisis pregnancy and gave birth to a child who was in the icu for 3 months with a congenital disability? made the difference between life and death.
when i was a cpc counselor, it was often such government programs that gave women a real choice instead of the ‘choice” between abortion and groetsquely unsupported parenthood.
–welfare queen–
no self-respecting Black woman would call herself or anyone else by that ugly name, not in my experience.
the ‘welfare queen” is a myth that props up and perpetuates race, gender, and class prejudices:
http://escholarship.org/uc/item/17m7r1rq
as such, it is a barrier to truly understanding and empathizing with and actually offering effective help to women in crisis pregnancies.
Again Marysia,
Spare us the class warfare claptrap. Its old and tiresome.
Its because of people who have money, be they white, black, or purple that people, white, black, and purple have jobs. Gee I wonder how much employment Oprah Winfrey generates? And Sean Combs aka Diddy? Let’s not forget Kimora Lee Simmons. Only a few of the multimillionaire black Americans who are, horror of horrors, creating thousands of jobs. Ohhhh, those eeeevil rich black and white people! Not to mention those abused souls who work for them!
What slender resources are you talking about Marysia? Can you not own a car because Jay Leno owns 200? Can you not fly on a jet because Oprah and Diddy own private jets? Please be specific.
If you are so knowledgable of black history then you realize that black people accomplished much under they most trying of circumstances and against the most overwhelming odds. What’s the problem now?? Maybe its liberals like you so caught up in convincing people of what victims they are, that they are powerless without a gov’t handout or white people’s favors. Malcom X must be rolling over in his grave.
I’m very happy to hear how well your daughter and grandchild did and wish them the very best. Just keep in mind it was the tax dollars of those eeeeevil rich people and the people they employ that paid for their care. I have worked in hospitals for years and can tell you how I have seen these programs abused as well as utilized properly. Working in a CPC I also saw medicaid assist young mothers.
Sadly, I also saw welfare dependency trap young women into lives of dependency and encourage irresponsiblity on the part of men who figured these young mothers could just go on welfare.
These programs are not successes in ending poverty, only in creating dependency. Of course there are individual exceptions. I found these programs to be double edged swords for the most part.
Marysia, if you are so concerned about education, talk to Obama. He discontinued a highly successful educational voucher program in Washington DC, much to the chagrin and outrage of parents and students. Oh, he was gracious enough to allow the students already in the program to finish. Now why we he terminate such a successful program that truly offers a future to low income students? Oh, maybe a bone to the teacher’s unions perhaps who have long opposed vouchers. Apparently low income parents shouldn’t have the same options as Obama as to where to send their children to school.
your rhetoric of “class warfare claptrap” is a serious impediment to solving the systemic, instititutionalized inequalities of US society that *cause* so many abortions.
try living on the receiving end of class warfare for a bit and maybe you will feel it’s anything but claptrap to speak as i speak.
i can tell you most confidently that my family could not have paid out of our own pockets for the food and medical care our daughter and grandchild so seriously needed. we were freed from worrying about those things and so could better care for them. it happens every day. fraud is much rarer than the myth of the “welfare queen” dictates.
i do *not* promote Black dependency on whites, but self-determination and self-reliance. and for that to happen, US society needs to commit very large levels of resources to underserved communities *that have a decisive say in program design and purpose.*
case in point: urban farming/community gardening. people will gladly grow their own food. but so much land is snapped up by real estate developers out from under the gardeners. there needs to be a systematic effort to secure enough urban lands before people can grow their own food to any large extent.
what slender resources am i talking about? not at all about cars or jets. i’m talking about not having high enough public benefit levels or a living wage job that will cover necessaries like rent and food to last the month. not having enough to even pay a security deposit on a crappy roach and rat infested apartment, let alone keep that apartment.
not having anything to replace the pair of shoes ever tightening on your kid’s feet. your kid getting serious diaper rash b/c you can’t afford the $100/month it takes for enough diapers.
not having public transit fare to get to whatever scarce medicaid-taking doctor’s appointment you can get for your kid…getting your next meal out of the half eaten hamburgers someone threw in the garbage…you know, living the high life!!
mothers on public assistance now have to establish paternity and arrange for child support collection from the fathers of their children.
as important as this is, it is also important that good educational opportunities and living wage jobs be open to the parents of both sexes, in order for them to take care of their kids…the best character and work ethic in the world isn’t going to do it if those opportunities aren’t available.
i don;t think it’s evil to have money, provided it’s not gained from violating others’ rights. i do thik it is evil to begrudge those in need whatever hand up you can and should give. i do think it is grievously wrong for prolifers of all people to begrudge public resources committed to alleviating the root causes of abortion.
as for education, vouchers only help a few. they also distract from the need for a comprehensive public commitment to educating ALL children. better to systematically, federally fund public education equally in all areas–the reliance of the system on local property taxes favors rich kids and dooms poor kids.
Marysia I think Star Parker would get a real kick out of you saying “no self-respecting Black woman would call herself a ‘welfare queen'”. That was exactly Star’s point she did not repect herself living off the welfare system, waiting for a check, figuring out how to abuse the system, living a destructive life style, having multiple sexual partners and multiple abortions. Then she came to Christ turned her life over to Him, begin working hard, started her own business, got some help from some well-meaning people along the way, founded a magazine, went off of welfare and now has her own organization C.U.R.E. has written multiple books is now a journalist and a TV news commentator. Read her books. It may be wishful thinking but it would be really great for you to debate Star Parker. Yes racism does and probably always will exist to some extent but as Star would probably say it’s time out for the blame game and get off of “Uncle Sam’s Plantation”, there is a Black (albeit pro-abortion) president in the White House and a black billionare in Oprah. It’s time to move forward and take personal responsibility. Got to go. Good night.
Marysia,
I am convinced that class warfare is what keeps people down. It gives an excuse for failure.
So and so is responsible for my failings, not me.
You do no one any service by giving them an excuse to fail.
As I said I am happy that your family got the help they needed but you can’t escape the fact it was paid for by the tax dollars of those you loathe. Someone has to pay for all these social programs you think the gov’t should have more of and just who do you think the money comes from? Bingo, the people you condemn as hoarding wealth and oppressing the downtrodden.
Public benefits don’t fall out of the sky. They come from the producers in this economy, many of whom are hurting. Have you heard that unemployment is on the rise? Are you aware Obama wants to cut out the tax deduction for charitable donations? I prefer to donate to charitable groups I know are truly serving those in need, not some mindless gov’t bureaucracy. Tax people and guess what, economic activity slows down and charitable and tax revenues decrease and those dependent on charitable and gov’t assistance get hurt.
How about holding fathers accountable? Maybe they would be more inclined to keep their pants zipped if they had to shell out. Women can’t say “no”? They can’t make the decision not to trap themselves into lives of poverty and welfare dependency? Being involved with CPCs Marysia I was surprised at the number of girls who WANTED to be pregnant. Yes you read that right.
I read of a group of black professional women who, alarmed by the high rate of black teen pregnancy formed a mentor group for black teens at risk. All young women mentored did not become pregnant, finished high school and went on to higher education. A highly successful charitable group that didn’t cost the taxpayers a dime.
Marysia, I donate to charities. I am happy to help anyone truly in need of help. What I see with welfare programs is men walking away from their responsibilities and taxpayers picking up the tab. I am seeing young women and children trapped into lives of welfare dependency and poverty.
To blame this on people white or black who have been responsible and successful is class warfare claptrap and I resent it. To convince people their problems are the result of white folks hoarding the wealth is irresponsible and patronizing.
In case you haven’t noticed there have been long standing gov’t anti poverty programs. Trillions was spent on the “war on poverty”. Why do we have poverty? Ya think maybe because these programs have failed miserably to eliminate poverty and have instead only generated bloated bureaucracies, waste, and dependency?
Do you think our schools, beholden to teacher’s unions, are failing their students?
Like I said Marysia, dispense with the class warfare and start looking at the real issues here. Giving people an excuse or a scapegoat for their failure is doing them no service, its only trapping them into a cycle of poverty and dependency on the government.
Liz @ 12:47:
I must admit that I have wondered how many children aborted after a diagnosis of possible Down’s Syndrome do not have it–but I do not think that those abortions are greater tragedies than abortions of children who do have Down’s Syndrome.
One thing that bothers me about the statistic on black abortion rates is that it always includes children of black mothers and white fathers, but never children of white mothers and black fathers–and I’m betting that’s a group with a very high abortion rate. Of course, there’s really no way to track that.
