A 14-year-old TX girl has been arrested after giving birth at home and then getting an adult neighbor to throw the infant boy’s body in the trash…
Houston police said no adults were present – only another 14-year-old and two 11-year-olds – when the girl gave birth April 16, and the group learned about child birth from the Internet. The newborn was placed on a mattress and was “alive for some time,” but died after his head was covered with the amniotic sac, Senior Officer C.P. Abbey said….
Researchers in Italy have published a paper in the New England Journal of Medicine detailing the long term success of their work in using stem cells to treat patients who were blinded in one eye by chemical burns. The AP has more information.
The UK’s Telegraph has an article on a woman who had an abortion after suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. Pro-life advocate Ashli Foshee McCall wrote a book entitled, Beyond Morning Sickness: Battling Hyperemesis Gravidarum, to help women suffering from the disease.
An OR psychiatrist is planning on opening a “Death with Dignity house” where individuals can kill themselves:
[Dr. Stuart] Weisberg told KGW-TV he felt compelled to act after watching a TV interview with Dr. Jack Kevorkian, who pioneered assisted suicide.

My heart really goes out to Ms. Harrison. I can’t imagine the physical suffering she endured that drove her to abort a baby she wanted. I hope researchers will learn how to treat this so no more babies die and no more moms live with that guilt.
As to the 14 year old giving birth, how did her parents not know she was pregnant? And while her parents worked no one was watching her and she was obviously having sex after school with her juvenile boyfriend. No one chaperones their kids anymore! And now look what has happened. A baby is dead and their daughter is in deep deep trouble with the law.
Oh, no! Poor little baby boy.
I hate the society we live in that says infants/fetuses are disposable. And where parents don’t care what their children are doing anymore… or who they’re doing it with…
And people wonder why we want to strenghten families and promote an abstinence message for unmarried folks and kids. Engage with your kids, parents! Please! They need us (parents)!
Sydney, my daughter suffers from a disorder known as cyclic vomiting syndrome. You can’t imagine how terrible this is to watch: the person vomits up to 100 times in an hour and drools constantly because they cannot even bear to swallow their own saliva. They feel unbelievably nauseous.
This is something she developed about 3 years ago. In her case it also comes with migraines and motion sickness.
Otherwise she is a healthy growing young person. To treat it means either preventing the “event” or stopping it once it starts. Prevention is to give very strong anti-nausea drugs when the person feels an “event” about to begin. These drugs are ones used for chemo patients.
Intervention means hospital IV and if this doesn’t work the patient must be sedated because this is a brain thing. Once the brain shuts down the vomiting stops.
So I feel for this woman not only because of my daughters situation but because I also experienced terrible morning sickness.
Doctors need to work on researching morning sickness. It is a terribly thing to experience and no woman should be told to simply “suck it up”.
Oh Sydney, I hope my comment didn’t come off as confrontational to you. :(
I meant that many doctors and other women (and not you!) sometimes downplay morning sickness and how bad it can really be.
I worry about my daughter and whether she will outgrow this and if not, will she be able to have children. :(
angel,
I’m so sorry to hear of your daughter’s condition and praying a cure is found soon.
thank you Janet. I appreciate your prayers very much.
God has been very good to us – she is now under the care of a pediatrician and a specialist in this disorder!
And despite this, she remains a happy, growing young teen.
Angel…I cannot imagine that. That sounds like torture. I had “morning sickness’ while pregnant and while not vomiting constantly I felt nauseated every hour of the day for about 5 months. So I feel for your daughter, I really do. Being constantly sick and in her case drooling and vomiting would drive me insane…really! I really really hope doctors can find a safe cure for her. I don’t want her to have to live with that. This is definitely an area that needs research!!!!
Angel, my prayers are with you!! As far as this 14 year old girl goes, she should go straight to jail. I guess I’m just not too sympathetic to a girl like this because I knew right from wrong at that age. If we don’t start taking a hard nosed approach to these women who commit infanticide, we are going to keep hearing tragic stories like these. It just happened a week ago in my city. A 16 year old gave birth, put the baby in her basement until she died, got sick and had to be hospitalized. The hospital discovered she had given birth and police found the dead baby. This must be taken seriously and these girls must be punished for murder. Imagine what those poor babies went through!!! The pain. The suffering. It makes me sick.
Looks like the “death with dignity” doc’s license has been suspended.
I’ll add your daughter to my prayer list, angel :)
Fed Up @ 4:20,
Just looked at Weisberg’s site. Looks like his “death venture” would have been mighty lucrative. Thank God the State of Oregon followed up on his case suspending his license. With the exception of typical hospital costs and funeral expenses, no one should be able to exploit the fact that we all have to die – making money off of a person’s death/killing should be illegal in all cases, including the medical profession.
Angel – My son has had Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome for 10 years. You are right it is a horrible illness and has ruined his life. If you ever find a drug that helps without it being addictive please post it on the internet. I am always looking for a cure for him. He is now 30 and lives one day at a time. He now gets sick every morning, and has migraines about 3 times a week.
Sydney perhaps you could Ask Dr.Richard Boles in California if there is anything new on the horizon for this illness.
