Kourtney Kardashian: I don’t believe in the pill anymore
I need to see what it’s like when I have two, but [having kids] is what life is about…. I’m not going on the pill [after giving birth to Penelope]. I don’t believe in it anymore!

“I’m not going on the pill [after giving birth to Penelope]. I don’t believe in it anymore!”
O000oh wheeee!!!
This is bold.
That is going off the reservation. You only need a few celebs to break away from the birth control orthodoxy and all kinds of women could decide to break loose. If her frame of mind persists and she keeps this position even just for herself and her family, she could really set a precedent.
But I can just see poor-choicers saying: that’s her choice. She’s not saying it’s bad, she just doesn’t want to be on it. Not THAT significant.
While I applaud her stand, she does have the means to support several children. I know in my case, I could never support more than I have now, especially in this economy.
I can just see it now: Kourtney Kardashian will now be subjected to mockery by the so-called “pro-choicers” in Hollywood and elsewhere, because to their chagrin Kourtney is making a choice that does not conform to their anti-life agenda. The real war on women is women turning against other women who disagree with the radical feminist movement.
Susan, though she has the financial means to support them it’s true, one of the points is that there are OTHER options than artificial birth control. There are more natural (and just as if not more effective) options than the methods that are so heavily promoted. If you truly are in financial diress and cannot possibly support more, that doesn’t mean that artificial contraception is the only option you have. There are various methods of Natural Family Planning that are EXTREMELY effective for either promoting or discouraging pregnancy, that work along with your body, not against it. Consider finding out more about these methods yourself. And… this is NOT the old “rythm method” that many believe it to be. These are scientifically based methods. Think about it.
Ugh. The comments on that article are disgusting–several people commenting on how she much be brainless or mentally ill. One even said she’s a bad role model for “promoting unwanted pregnancy”!
Can someone tell me what exactly SHE is famous for. or is it just because she’s a Kardashian ?
The amount of time and attention that family gets from the media is astonishing to me.
Children come with a loaf of bread under their arm. If one thinks a child costs what the media tells you a child costs, well, nobody in the middle class could afford even one. I have an old high school friend that pays $27,000 a year for day care in NY. That, to me, is insanity. I have five on a teacher’s salary and we are neither hungry nor deprived. We just don’t waste our money on everything the media tells you kids need. Kids need a good diet, lots of play time, a solid education (which can come from the library for free), faith and lots and lots of love from their parents. God will provide.
Yes, there are many people living under the poverty line now a days, especially in this economy. But, there is nothing better in times of despair than the hope, love and joy that a baby brings to the world. Don’t let your wallet keep you from having a child. God will provide, just Trust in Him!
Mike, I agree. Why anyone would care what she says or see her as a role model is beyond me especially since she is not married to the father of her children (yes I’m being judgemental).
I agree, Mike.
Maybe Kourtney should have had the discussion, “how many children would you like to have?” . BEFORE their sexual relationship began. Let this be a lesson to all the youngsters watching the show. :)
Does she explain WHY she doesn’t “believe in the pill” any more? The video cuts off at that point…
If one thinks a child costs what the media tells you a child costs, well, nobody in the middle class could afford even one.
What about what some public school health classes are teaching kids regarding what it costs to raise a child? Based on their figures, I should not have been able to raise one child to say nothing of three. But we know who are behind those classes, too.
Large families went out of fashion largely because we went from a primarily agricultural economy to a primarily urban economy.
Of course, rich people like Ms. Kardashian have no trouble supporting large families (although many don’t choose to have them). For most people, a large family is extremely difficult to support.
As I’ve said before, I support a family allowance system in which income automatically increases with a newborn. However, many fear that such a system would turn the country into a bunch of Michelle Duggars, Octomoms, and other women who mega-reproduce. I doubt that because pregnancy is painful, tiring, and demands a lot of the pregnant female.
Children dont have to have all kinds of shiny new toys to play with. My 15 month old grandson is perfectly happy playing with empty boxes and measuring cups and spoons from my kitchen cabinet (washed of course). Unfortunately he thinks my fluffy orange tabby is some kind of four-legged plush toy but Miss Goldie is very patient with him ( my cranky old Siamese-not so much!
Can we please stop talking about and quoting the Kardashians?? Who cares??
There are serious people with serious ideas and serious discussions worthy of our attention. And real fish to fry.

Agreed. But other people vote too.
Jen.
The Kardashians are definitely not the Duggars, but there’s a reason, actually several, as to why I think Jill allows them to be given the time of day on her blog. Jill can correct me if I’m wrong in my estimation.
For starters, way back in the beginning since I’ve known Jill, she’s had a taste for “pop” culture and how it ties in with pro-life-ism. Even before I came on board the crew, she would post about celebrities now and then, comment on how so-and-so’s choice is life-affirming or plain disgusting.
Those posts tended to add a little variety to what one would expect on a typical pro-life blog. I daresay it was unique to Jill Stanek.com.
Now I’m with you on the Kardashians and most of Hollywood for that matter. I really could care less about what they have to say. However, there are those who may stumble upon Jill’s blog, randomly catch a life-affirming quote from someone who’s got name recognition, and be pleasantly surprised to find that that such sentiments do exist in Hollywood and that it would be featured on a pro-life blog.
I’m thinking of those in the Celebrity Admirers’ Club who eat up Entertainment Tonight for dinner and swallow People Magazine for dessert. I’m not part of that, but there are millions and millions who do. It’s critical, IMO, that we include them in our blog audience because we never know how a celebrity’s quote might actually positively influence a nominal pro-choicer or an indifferent pro-lifer.
Plus, I’d like to think that some rabid pro-choicer who actually said something that supports the pro-life position, might get a little annoyed when it lands on Jill’s blog, which, BTW, is one of the more popular pro-life blogs around.
So yeah, big deal, Kourtney Kardashian, whatever. But someone, somewhere, is watching and might actually be impressed.
PLUS…
The youth are all over that celebrity smack. We would be shooting ourselves in the foot if we don’t capitalize on what gets their attention.
and also, I enjoy posting about how I don’t care about them. :3
I am not into the celebrity stuff either, but carder makes a good case. What I can appreciate about these posts isn’t that it’s a Karsashian, but that they provide examples of individuals who are completely blown away by the joy of parenthood. That speaks powerfully for life.
First of all, I’m with x. I love posting about how I don’t care about stupid celebrities. Blech. Kardashians. ECH!!!
BUT I do see the value in posting about them because here’s the thing: It’s fascinating to me that even those who are celebrities (for only-God-knows-what-reason) are trending towards pro-life proclivities. Because, hey, when even those who are known to be all about image and selfishness and materialism start to speak out about eschewing what’s accepted and pushed by modern culture (BC pills, pro-life, keeping a Downs baby, etc), that’s awesome.
And also, PP eats up celebrities and such. SO when one of “their own” leaves the herd, they must be twitching!! And that thought alone is so totally worth it. :)
Perhaps Kourtney Kardashian is following in the footsteps of 1950s sexbomb Jayne Mansfield. The famous sex goddess was adamantly opposed to abortion. When someone suggested it, she recited to him scientific truths about how very early in the pregnancy different sorts of formation occur. She said, “A baby in utero is a human being like you or I!”
Jayne Mansfield told close friend and biography May Mann, “I’ve never had an abortion. There aren’t many of our top glamour queens who can say that. I’ve never denied life to a little baby growing in my womb.”
Perhaps in the future more top glamour queens will be able to honestly say they’ve never had an abortion.
Interesting, Denise. Where’d you read about that? Do you have a link?
@ Carder: The information about Jayne Mansfield’s strongly held anti-abortion views are in “Jayne Mansfield” by May Mann.
I have an essay online called “Are Abortion Foes Sexually Repressed?” in which I discuss Jayne Mansfield’s opposition to abortion.
