Columnist slams “pro-life with exceptions” position
This is the bottom line: if you believe an unborn baby is a human being, you cannot, in intellectual honesty, allow an abortion exception for rape or incest.
Republicans do this all the time, and it drives me nuts. They deserve to be called out on it, as Sean Hannity was by a Democrat guest on his program not long ago.
Here’s the thing: rape and incest are horrible, horrible crimes. I can’t even begin to put into words how horrible. To be pregnant not by choice and in horrible circumstances is a scary thing. It’s unfair.
But can you really say, “Well, this life is less deserving of a chance because it came into being through something unjust?”
The last thing you do to fix injustice is cause more injustice. The justice should be enacted on the person who committed the crime. No one should be killed or have less of a chance of life based on how they came into this world.
It’s horribly unfair to say anyone doesn’t deserve to live because of how they came to be. That’s putting preconditions on someone. It’s so judgmental that a liberal shouldn’t be able to handle it.
And a conservative shouldn’t, either.

That image is not from Pro-Life Belfast and you know better Jill. How about we try some honest journalism here?
The unborn children did not commit those rapes. Why should they suffer for the sins of their “fathers”? Why add the trauma of turning their child over to be killed to the trauma of being raped?
Those who take the rape and incest exception need to understand that life is life and a preborn child conceived out of rape is no different and has no less of a right to live than a preborn child conceived out of consensual sex.
You are either pro-life or you are not.
Where is it from ryan?
And Jill does not do the QOTD btw
How about we go after the perp of the rape and not give an innocent child the death sentence?
Carla, it was originally created by AHA:

This is a blog, not a commercial news outlet. I see a lot of photos used on mainstream websites to illustrate their stories that are stock photos that were not taken by reporters at the location at which the news story occurs. Save your indignation. I am indignant that people want to give a child the death penalty. Conception is not an act of will on the part of the child, and the child should not bear the punishment of his parent’s crime.
The father eats unripe grapes and the children’s teeth are set on edge?
Ryan, I posted this QOD. I obtained it online from Pro-Life Belfast’s website through a Google image search. I do apologize if this is AA’s photo. I’ll be happy to correct the error. It was unintentional.

It is now fixed. And I have also linked to the post where I found the image, using an image search. http://prolifebelfast.blogspot.com/2012/08/no-equivocation-no-excuses-no.html
@Ryan – how about pointing out the error, and ask for propers and leave it at that. Why add the snarky edge and implication that Jill is not honest? I think that the sharp dig is demeaning and is incendiary in nature.
We should save our energy to fight abortion, not each other.
There’s about a half-dozen failed Republican Senate candidates from the last few years who can tell you what happens when you run on a “pro-life without exceptions” platform.
Actually I do agree with you joan, minus the “gotcha” snarky part of your comment, pro-life without exceptions isn’t remotely politically expedient in the current climate. It may be inconsistent to have the exceptions, but politically it’s not a smart move to do without them.
That’s why I think it’s smarter for politicians to be pro-lifer with exceptions, go from there. Getting everything but the “exceptions” criminalized will save a ton of babies, and then pro-lifers can go from there.
Here is a great lecture on Abortion in the case of rape. Lots of argument and explanation here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=kMfajh6NRB0
Denise, can you please, please stop telling these stories?
“Why add the trauma of turning their child over to be killed to the trauma of being raped” – a woman dealing with the trauma of rape who does not wish to abort is not forced to abort, so no trauma is added.
A woman who is suffering the trauma of rape and wishes to abort but is forced to endure an unwanted pregnancy and delivery is having her trauma added to.
Denise, you’re just plain weird. I can’t see how that is relevant.
Denise, please, you don’t forget being raped because you have an abortion. It doesn’t erase it. You think about it constantly especially soon after it happens whether you’re pregnant or not (if getting pregnant was the marker for whether rape causes continuous damage, male victims like myself would have no emotional scars at all!). I actually do get why rape victims want to abort, I do understand that. That doesn’t change the fact that there’s another victim when the rape victim gets pregnant. I don’t think it’s fair at all to female rape victims, but you can’t really pretend the child conceived doesn’t exist.

ENOUGH!!
I received one email about Denise and deleted her comments.
Please feel free to email me anytime about her thoughtlessness. I will delete as soon as I am able.

I apologize to those that have personal experience with rape and are subjected to THAT.
