Alternative Girl Scouts organization offers Respect Life patch
The Girl Scouts have had a disturbing, well-documented relationship with the abortion lobby for a long time.
The organization finally overplayed its hand this past December by giving its stamp of approval to two infamous pro-abortion women, Wendy Davis and Kathleen Sebelius. This drew a boycott of Girl Scout cookies, called CookieCott2014.
Yesterday the American Heritage Girls, a faith-based alternative to the Girl Scouts, announced a new Respect Life Patch, which ”reinforces the organization’s commitment to honoring life from conception to natural death.”
How to earn the patch? From the press release:
Troops representing more than 30,000 girls in 48 states can earn the patch by participating in an event that brings attention to respecting life or by providing a service project for an organization whose mission/purpose demonstrates a desire to respect life, such as pregnancy resource centers, pro-life groups and hospices.
That’s awesome. Now, how could the Girl Scouts find any fault with that? This badge would seem like a natural fit between its babysitter badge and women’s health badge….
Such a badge would launch the Girl Scouts on a healthy and constructive path back from the abortion abyss. How about it, Girl Scouts?
(Frontier Girls is another faith-based alternative to the Girl Scouts.)

This is a brilliant and easy way for Girl Scouts to show their honest commitment to family life and good health — and an easy step away from the abortion industry.
Lots of Girl Scout troops are sponsored by Catholic parishes and schools. That fact alone should be enough to inspire interest this badge. Not that every Girl Scout has to earn it or even agree with the principles taught by this badge.
A quick look at the Girl Scout badges reveals enthusiasms for environmental care, kindness to animals, knowledge of civic issues and involvement, and so forth. It is quite glaring that the Life issue is missing.
The Girl Scouts ARE a religious organization. While you may disagree with the particular brand of Christianity that the Girl Scouts supports, your disagreement does not negate the point that the Girl Scouts is a religious organization.
I’m an atheist father and the religious aspect of the Girl Scouts is why my daughter is not allowed to participate in that group. Now that they are showing signs of being a liberal christian organization, I think I will buy their cookies, as a reward for showing signs of sanity.
I was a Girl Scout myself long ago and though our troop was out of our church we never were considered a “religious organization”.
Buy away joe. It is still a free country last time I checked of course that may not be for very long if the present administration, the IRS and Ms. Lois Lerner get their way. But I guess your “brand of Christianity” that believes mutilating and aborting the unborn is a “Christian” idea will be just fine. Good night. Troll away.
