The human cost of abortion
Last year at this time, I cited a statistical abstract using the ratio of professions to population and the number of infants aborted. The resulting estimate showed that in the last 35 years, those lives destroyed could have included: two U.S. presidents; seven Supreme Court justices; 102 U.S. senators and 589 congressmen; 8,123 judges; 31 Nobel Prize laureates; 328 Olympic medalists; 6,092 professional athletes; 134,841 physicians and surgeons; 392,500 registered nurses; 70,669 clergy, including 6,852 Catholic priests and 11,010 nuns; 1,102,443 elementary and high-school teachers; 553,821 truck drivers; 224,518 maids and housekeepers; 33,939 janitors; 134,028 farmers and ranchers; 109,984 police officers; and 39,477 firefighters.
~ Fr. George Rutler illustrating what the loss of millions of lives through abortion have cost American society, Church of St. Michael, January 11
[HT: Fr. Z]

The numbers might be relevant if they included criminals, drug addicts, disabilities etc.
All things considered, the majority of humans who are not alive because of abortion would not have been mentally ill, addicts or disabled.
The numbers might be lower, but firstly, that signifies a societal problem more than anything. Other than mental disabilities, many of these issues can be worked around or solved. Abortion isn’t a solution.
Actually, the majority of those who do face problems like addiction or mental illness will overcome it and have a stable source of income.
It’s pretty callous and the complete opposite of social justice to suggest abortion is a solution to criminals, addicts and disabled people. All of these people can- and most do- contribute to society.
And at the end of the day, their career shouldn’t matter. Whether a fetus could be a truck driver or President or doctor or criminal doesn’t change the undeniable fact that it has human DNA- and according to science and common sense, is a living organism. There shouldn’t be anymore criteria then that.
And any of the people with the careers above are capablr of being addicts, criminals or disabled.
Reality,
So the loss of those potential criminals is worth killing all the other productive citizens?
So tell, me what is your opportunity cost?
The pro-abort position, arguing for fewer unwanted babies, has already been invalidated.
Megan,
callous isn’t the word; try evil, or maybe just perverse.
