Pro-life blog buzz 1-16-15

- 40 Days for Life shares a compelling story from a woman who justified her work at Planned Parenthood as “I’m just the bookkeeper” until the day she received an invoice that pricked her heart:
“The invoice was to Planned Parenthood from the local morgue. It was for $350.” As she scanned the invoice to see what it was for, the reality of abortion hit her. She continued, “The service listed was in bold letters that pierced my heart: CREMATION SERVICE FOR 150 POUNDS OF MEDICAL WASTE…. [T]he question I had to ask myself as I stared at that invoice was what first got me involved in the pro-life movement. The question that pierced my heart was: How many babies have to be aborted to add up to 150 pounds of ash?”
- Jivin Jehoshaphat adds a detail that we missed in our recent post about Arizona abortionist Gabrielle Goodrick – the fact that Goodrick is on probation for substance abuse:
The Washington Post has an article by Lydia DePillis which allows Arizona abortionist Gabrielle Goodrick to whine about how hard it is to be an abortionist in Arizona after the state legislature passed some pro-life laws.Likely unbeknownst to De Pillis is that Goodrick is currently on probation for substance abuse issues (she took Fentanyl at her office in 2010) and her clinic was the subject of one of Live Action’s undercover stings regarding sex-selection abortion….
- After Abortion discusses the reported link between Depo-Provera and HIV risk. This is one type of birth control frequently marketed to teens by the abortion industry:
According to the research published in The Lancet of Infectious Diseases, women who used the injectable birth control depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (more commonly known as Depo-Provera) saw a moderately increased risk of becoming infected with HIV. Depo-Provera is generally injected every three months to help prevent pregnancy. The scientists also looked at HIV risk relative to other methods of hormonal contraception, including injectable norethisterone oenanthate (also known as NET-OEN), combined oral contraceptives and progestin-only pills.
Only the Depo-Provera seemed to increase the risk of contracting HIV, by roughly 40 percent compared to women using non-hormonal birth control or no birth control at all.
- Abstinence Clearinghouse warns us of two new applications (Tinder and Whisper) that teens may use and parents needs to be wary of. Both can track a user’s location, which could open the door to pedophiles.
- American Life League’s Judie Brown tells us about a woman who became pregnant as a result of rape is now fighting the rapist to keep custody of her child. Amazingly enough, there is no law to protect her. The organization Hope After Rape Conception was started by a victim of rape for the purpose of creating state and federal laws to protect rape victims from this very thing. Brown encourages all pro-life legislators to support this. This is the way to show true concern for the victims of rape rather than supporting abortion of the innocent child.
- Bound4Life notes the interesting timing of the release of Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song” (set to her preborn daughter’s actual heartbeat) and the two pro-life heartbeat bills being heard in federal appeals court regarding legislation in Arkansas and North Dakota:
“For these two events to unexpectedly happen at exactly the same time should make us all ponder for a moment,” says Matt Lockett, Executive Director of Bound4LIFE.
He continues, “For ‘Heartbeat Song’ to come along, set to the heartbeat of her baby in the womb, just as two important Heartbeat laws are being defended in court — it’s either an extraordinary coincidence or a confirmation. I take it as a great confirmation that God is drawing our attention to the sanctity of life in the womb.”
- The Vine draws attention to the abortion industry’s attempts at normalizing abortion – in this case, by creating a play about it:
[T]he pro-aborts are attempting to make a dramatic production of abortion stories from women. No, seriously. Spawning from the “1 in 3 campaign” which claims 1 in 3 women will have an abortion, the newest attempt to normalize murdering your child will be a play, “Out of Silence,” that pro-aborts hope to show across the country. In an interview with Salon (because, of course) one of the pro-aborts behind the “Out of Silence” actually stated that “Some of it is very funny.”

The legislation that Hope after Rape Conception suggests is extremely problematic and to pretend that it is wholly something that should be applauded is short sighted. Children have a right to their parents, both father and mother, and without a legal conviction there simply is no cause for a government to step in and deprive a child of their biological parents. Today the state rips families apart because social workers with almost no accountability and need only ‘feel’ like the child’s “best interest” is better served by their opinion than by their parent’s. Should a rapist have parental rights against the willingness of the mother? OF COURSE NOT. But without proving that in a court of law, that isn’t want is happening. Write a law for excluding a convicted rapist from parental rights I’m right there. But that’s it. You can’t strip a legally innocent father of his parental rights as a matter of blanket law. Today woman are routinely told to file restraining orders and claim abuse by husbands they are attempting to divorce, regardless of the reality of the situation. Hundreds of thousands of fathers have already been stripped of parental rights because family courts largely take a woman’s word as proof positive that a man is guilty of wrong-doing. There have been too many children irrevocably harmed because an angry woman said ‘he hit me’ to get a bigger settlement and keep the kids away just for spite. It’s horrible if a rapist doesn’t get convicted, it’s not any better to convict a person of rape who didn’t commit it. You don’t fix one thing by causing the other. Hard cases make for bad law. If there is not a legal conviction of child abuse, neglect, rape, etc, the government should have ZERO rights to deprive a child from their parents. Is that perfect? ABSOLUTELY NOT. But it’s a whole lot better than the alternative. It is not pro-life to deprive children of their fathers because mom makes a rape allegation. And yes, woman lie about rape. That’s why in the U.S. people are innocent until proven guilty.
