40 Days for Life Fall 2008 report
With the dysfunctional pro-life movement arguing and even countermanding one another over strategy, the one area I see where all are in agreement and working together is the 40 Days for Life campaign. Only 4 years old, it has shown phenomenal success.
The plan is simple. Once in the spring leading up to Easter and again in the fall, 40-day prayer vigils are held, some round-the-clock, at abortion mills.
With the election of Barack Obama and overwhelming Democrat seizure of congressional control, legislation and policies will become literal dead zones for the next couple years at the very least. One critical way to stop abortion despite pro-abort politicians and courts is to starve it at its source: the abortion clinic.
Here is David Bereit’s video report for the Fall 2008 campaign.
The successes were great…
Over 76k believers participated 614 lives were documented to have been saved Hundreds of women and men were spared from the tragic effects of abortion, including a lifetime of regrets 8 abortion workers quit their jobs and walked away from the industry Numerous mills cut back days and hours of operation during the campaign 1 mill announced on Day 38 it was closing its doors for good Over 130 news stories were featured in newspapers, magazines, radio shows and television programs from coast to coast Many post-abortive people stepped forward to begin post-abortion recovery
And best of all, as David wrote in an email update last night, “After 35 years of legalized abortion in America, many believers are experiencing a renewed sense of HOPE!”
Amen.
40 Days polled over 6k people after the fall campaign to consider if and how to grow the ministry. David will announce its plans along with making a financial appeal on December 9 during a teleconference at 9p EST. Register here.

This is an excellent beginning. Also, Saxby Chambliss’s reelection in Georgia is also welcome news. The counterattack has begun.
This is the highest level I believe our opponents will ever reach and years to come their power will greatly recede.
If Barack Obama is declared ineligible by the Supreme Court, it will be a devastating psychological blow for the abortionist movement.

Oh, THANK GOD that the Pro Life senator in Georgia was re-elected. I was so worried about that.
And the fact that 8 workers were able to leave the abortion industry shows that PRAYER does work.
One employee that left was a single mom to 4 daughters and they were taking a local collection for her, according to the daily emails I had received during 40 days for life.
And 614 future workers / voters lives were spared!
James, please limit your comment on the Obama birth certificate question to one per post. Thanks.
Also, Saxby Chambliss’s reelection in Georgia is also welcome news. The counterattack has begun.
I agree.
We will all make strides advertising that life begins at conception. There are still a lot of people that don’t know life begins at conception. there are many that know but deny it.
Thank you for resonding Jill. I will try to honor your request. I hope you get on board and Join the fight. Be sure to notify your pro-life contacts and encourage them to get on board and join the fight.
THANK YOU for posting that video, Jill. I participated in a 40 Days for Life prayer vigil in my city this year. It was my first time, and it was quite moving.
As a former pro-abort, if you’d have told me a few years ago that I’d be outside an abortion clinic praying the rosary, I’d have said you were nuts. But now I look forward to being more involved in 2009.
James:
What time is the demonstration at the Supreme Court on Friday, December 5th? I live in the DC area and was there on October 30th when Phil Berg filed his appeal with the Supreme Court. I will definitely try to be at the Court on the 5th and also at the press conference at the National Press Club on December 8th (1:00 to 4:00 PM I believe) to discuss the birth certificate issue. All the plaintiffs will be there, all the people who have cases at the Supreme Court, headed there or in state courts.
That press conference is of course following from the ads in the Chicago Tribune today and Monday demanding that Obama produce his birth certificate, among other things.
Joe, you can find out more about the SCOTUS demonstration at FreedomMarch.org
I heard that you probably want to be there around 8:00am Friday morning. However, I also heard that a bunch of people may there sometime on Thursday. I would make trip down there on Thurdsday afternoon and defnitely be down there on Firday morning.
The election of Obama will make federal legislation a tricky proposition, but there is still plenty that can (and should) be done in the states!
“The counterattack has begun…”
Let’s keep up the pressure folks…prayer, fasting and penance…

Yeah, that will work.
Hal, I didn’t pray tonight, but did have an awesome “Filet Mignon Stir-Fry” and some beverages.
Was that my penance?
Hal:
you may NOT be a believer, but some of us are.
Saint Monica prayed that her son would abandon his lifestyle and return to the Christian faith. She persevered and he returned. Saint Augustine is one of the better known Saints.
Dr. Nathanson abandoned the abortion industry. Norma McCorvey, better known as Jane Roe, left the abortion industry and became a christian and a pro life activist.
Prayer works!
When my grandmother, God rest her soul, was pregnant with my dad’s youngest brother, she had some complications, said a prayer to Saint Gerard, the patron saint of pregnancy and pregnant women and my uncle was born healthy. His middle name is Gerard.
Yes, prayer does work. Prayer helped 614 babies be spared. Prayer helped 8 employees leave the abortion industry.

And many people go from being pro-life to being pro-choice.
And many pro-lifers end up having abortions if it’s them who happen to have unwanted pregnancies.
This stuff happens all the time.
