Cornyn asks Obama if healthcare spies should rat on his own “disinformation”
Yesterday conservatives publicized that the White House was recruiting informants on its blog to turn in emails and web addresses of those spreading “disinformation” on Obamacare, i.e., anything in opposition.
Today Big Brother’s request remains up (click to enlarge)…
… prompting Sen. John Cornyn (R–TX) to write a great letter to the WH reminding Obama of the First Amendment, requesting him to remove the request, and asking exactly what Obama plans to do with names, email addresses, IP addresses, and web addresses of people countering his healthcare disinformation. Great last line:
Do your own past statements qualify as “disinformation”? For example, is it “disinformation” to note that in 2003 you said: “I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care plan”?

Can the White House please define “fishy”? Or, is it above their pay grade?

OMG what type of Democrat is opposed to free speech? He “can’t handle the truth” apparently so he calls all opinions that disagree with his “disinformation.” By that definition about 90% of opinions & facts in the world would be disinformation. Is he a Democrat or a dictator?

Oh, for goodness sake! I’m all for setting the record straight, but this is ridiculous! I could understand if there were a single prominent email, or even 2, that were supposedly “misleading”… but this is ridiculous!

Brilliant. It would be really cool if everyone reported Obama for spreading disinformation, as a sort of protest/show-of-force. At worst, it would slow down their attack on “disinformation”.
From the looks of other blogs, it appears that people are getting very creative in reporting the “fishiness” going on. The White House appears to be a popular one. Someone making $100,000 per year is probably fishing through all these emails at the WH. Great use of tax-payers’ money.
It’s unbelievable that this kind of request was put forth by the president of the United States.
If Obama had anything to do with it, anyone criticizing him would be put into prison or given the death penalty. He isn’t man enough to handle criticism from the other side, because he knows that he’s fighting a losing battle if more people know what he REALLY stands for.

What is wrong with trying to stop insurance company propaganda from misinforming the public by making stuff up?
For example: Obama does not want to kill old people.
No one is trying to stop speech. They ARE trying to rebut false statements designed by the insurance industry to gain support for killing reform efforts. Why? because they make tons of money under the current system which allows them to only cover healthy people.

Please cite sources for the “false statements designed by the insurance industry”. I don’t know where you are getting your information from but the numbers of uninsured in this country are grossly overstated. Included are those who choose not to pay for coverage such as young collage grads who see no need for it, those who are between jobs, illegal aliens, (and I’m probably forgetting more examples). Should we force people to pay for insurance if they don’t want it??
How many people will be out of work when the insurance industry goes bankrupt? What will they do? Go work for the auto industry in Detroit?

The President’s chief medical policy advisor has espoused that. He said that medical care should be reserved for the non-disabled, not given to those “who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens . . . An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia” (Hastings Center Report, Nov.-Dec. ’96).
What am I missing??
Wow. Would this qualify for comparison with a Saddam Hussein-esque dictatorship, or should we look next door at Iran instead? Or maybe it’s just plain communist.

Never thought I’d see anything that demented come out of the President of the United States’ office. There was a time when people in this country would see this type of thing happening in other countries and be GLAD they lived in a country where this was NOT A PROBLEM. Guess those days are gone, my friends! Welcome to the Taliban-like days of having your neighbors spying on you. Wonder when they’re going to start tossing folks in the slammer (or giving them a good, old-fashioned 40 lashes) for disagreeing with our government officials.

Yeah, I’d like to see those statements too. I think what’s happening is that average citizens are doing what our elected officials in Washington aren’t. They’re reading the bill. And when you do that it’s clear that the bill doesn’t square with Washington rhetoric.
Like when libs say that you can keep your private insurance they don’t mention that you only get to keep it during the grace period. After that you’re required to switch to a government-approved plan.

I’ve seen libs bash this speaker as not being credible, but I don’t see anything in the bill that contradicts what she says except on one point. And that’s whether privately insured people can pay out of pocket for additional services not covered in their health plan. I can’t interpret the bill’s legalese well enough to understand if it’s allowed or not.

Regarding the NTIA / ip (internet) address comment above: the NTIA wording specifically states that ANY info for fed govt shoukd NOT be gathered. Exactly like the fed govt gets exempted from the proposed health care plan.
Everywhere that the socialists have taken over, they exempt themselves from the misery of the common masses. In recent months, citizens have used the U.K freedom of information laws to expose wide corruption of funds available to their legislators. There has been a great investigation of the pay-for-nothing scams for the pay available to each EU country’s representatives.
And we are all familiar with the stories of how the USSR party officials lived the good life as their comrades starved.
This is inherent in any govt run not by the people but by the elite.
