numbers game.jpgCongressperson Michelle Bachmann said on WLS’s Don & Roma Show this morning that over 50 liberals in the House say they won’t vote for healthcare if the public option is removed, and over 40 Blue Dogs say they won’t vote for healthcare if the public option stays in. Pelosi can only lose 38 and still pass a bill.
The Hill reported these numbers on September 8…

At least 23 House Democrats already have told constituents or hometown media that they oppose the massive healthcare overhaul touted by President Barack Obama….
At least 60 liberal Democrats have pledged to vote against a healthcare bill with no public option, which they view as watered-down reform.
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) has said dropping the public option completely would lose 100 Democratic votes….

The Washington Post reported September 8 there are 52 Dem Blue Dogs.
Don’t forget that House Pro-Life Caucus co-chair, Democrat Bart Stupak, has repeatedly said he has enough votes to bring any healthcare bill down that includes abortion funding.
I’m merely a pro-life blogger in fly-over country, but I’m not seeing how these numbers can ever add up, no matter what any healthcare bill says.
Then, over in the Senate, quoting Karl Rove in the Wall Street Journal today:

Until Ted Kennedy’s vacant MA Senate seat is filled and there is confidence WV’s Robert Byrd is well enough to show up for a vote, there simply aren’t 60 Senate Democrats to invoke cloture. That means Republicans will have considerable procedural sway, even if the White House isn’t interested in giving them a real role by taking out a clean sheet of paper and starting over.
