“In the state of Virginia as long as the umbilical cord is attached and the placenta is still in the mother, if the baby comes out alive the mother can do whatever she wants to with that baby to kill it,” said Investigator Tracy Emerson. “She could shoot the baby, stab the baby. As long as it’s still attached to her in some form by umbilical cord or something it’s no crime in the state of Virginia.”
The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office worked unsuccessfully to get the law changed after another baby died in the county in a similar case. Emerson said they asked two delegates and one state senator to take the issue up in the General Assembly. He says the three lawmakers refused because they felt the issue was too close to the abortion issue.
Emerson said the woman knew she was pregnant and had received prenatal care. He said the baby was full-term, due Tuesday. The medical examiner says the baby was born healthy. An autopsy is being performed. The baby’s body will then be released to the family.
Freeman’s threatening voice mail said in part, “I’m going to burn your abortion clinic down because you are a baby killer and you hate babies. Go back to Portland and get sick there… Or I’m going to blow your (expletive) abortion clinic up.”
Planned Parenthood may not have been Freeman’s only target, though he faces jail time for that single threat.
Authorities say Freeman may have made other threatening calls to a PeaceHealth Medical Group doctor and to Eugene’s Masonic Lodge as well as to the home of former University of Oregon President Dave Frohnmayer.
The court recognizes Freeman as disabled partly because of brain injuries he sustained when he was struck by a train in 2005.

That VA law sounds ludicrous. The Bobbitts lived in Virginia at the time she attacked him with a carving knife. If only they’d been IN the act, “attached somehow” it’d have been ok, right?
God have mercy on this woman and comfort the grieving family. Poor baby, who should be wrapped up warmed and being oohed and aahed over.
As for the three lawmakers, you don’t deserve the position, pay or prestige. There are some aspects of my job I’d rather not do, too, you gutless wonders.
Obama is willing to trade the SAC airbase to pass his Obamacare??
That just shows how much he cares about the military and how stupidly short-term his views are…that is, unless he really doesn’t care about anything as long as he gets his way.
I think it’s the latter…
That story of the VA woman suffocating her baby made me recoil in absolute horror. How much more are laws going to push the lines of when the baby is a person enough for it to be considered ‘wrong’?
Stories like these are so SICKENING to hear…especially when some of us would give ANYTHING to have(and to LOVE) that precious baby! :(
That mother in Virginia who suffocated her baby should be strung up by her toes!!!! I am so ANGRY!!! Why if she was receiving prenatal care would she go and do such a thing? Maybe MEGAN or NERD can explain that to me.
She didn’t have an abortion. She carried this baby to term and then killed it. Her family knew she was pregnant. Obviously she was being supported. What an immature, selfish brat she is! I hope her family throws her out on the street. To do that to your child and right before Christmas which is the time for children. I hope she is shunned by the whole community. That poor baby has received no justice!
This is what the abortion mentality has brought us. This proves every point made by pro-lifers on this website. Read this Megan, Nerd, Dhalgren and Danielle….This is what your blood thirst has brought us!
Excuse me while I sit here and feel completely and totally revolted. It’s OK now to kill a baby as long as he/she is still attached to the mother? Sick.
Sick, sick, sick. That’s horrible. How could a mother do such a thing? I hope that those in the justice system can keep their heads out of their behinds long enough to put this mother away for life. Good heavens, if she didn’t want the baby, what would have been wrong with adopting?
Oh, yeah, I forgot. Adoption is “too hard” so why don’t we just KILL THE BABY. THAT’s wonderful. Makes lots of sense. Disgusting.
And the lawmakers are degenerates. But I think the majority of them at the moment are, and we knew that before.
Who in the world wrote that VA law? Given the facts, WWOD (What would Obama do)?
Absolutely disgusting. I guess it would be perfectly fine for an abortionist to do the same thing in VA, right?
Do they not have any restrictions on 3rd trimester abortions there? I mean, if an abortionist could “only” kill a full term child if the mother’s health or life were in danger, why could a woman kill the same child on her own?
What the hell is wrong with the world when we have mothers smothering and wrapping up as christmas gifts their newly delivered children.
I can’t even imagine.
It seems like they’re using Megan’s “logic.” The same child can be two entirely different things based on connection to the mother. Yep, makes perfect sense….
What the hell is wrong with the world when we have mothers smothering and wrapping up as christmas gifts their newly delivered children.

****************
Lauren, I’m with you.
This woman should be put away for the rest of her life.
When my son was born 4 months ago, he came out screaming. He was still attached to me, but he was not (and never has been) a part of MY body. This story sickens me beyond belief. And yet, it is the natural progression of the abortion mentality.
I can’t even imagine what would make a woman do something like that. I mean, the only thoughts I have after delivering a baby are A) Is the baby ok? and B) I’d like to see my baby now.
Never “Hey, I think I’ll smother my child to death now!”
“I can’t even imagine what would make a woman do something like that.”
Lauren, I’ve often wondered it too. Could it be considered temporary insanity? Maybe all aborting mothers could be considered “temporarily insane”. I’d be curious to hear what post-abortive mothers who regret their abortions think.
Whether this woman is insane or not, she should be charged with something. Jeesh.
What a terrible sad, sick story.
No suprise regarding these lilly livered politicians not wanting any involvement if there is any connection of dots to abortion.
In my state the upheaval was tremendous from the pro-aborts when we passed the Grieving Parents Act which just asked that medical professionals give information on fetal disposition when a miscarriage is diagnosed.
Apparently for the pro-aborts, It’s ok to have the CHOICE to kill your baby, just not ok to have a CHOICE on how you would like your miscarried baby buried.

Lauren – Your sentiments are mine.
I prefer
coerced
lied to
deceived

and not “temporarily insane.” If I had known the truth I would have never had one.
It sounds to me like that one study trying to prove that we are all mentally ill. Millions and millions and millions of us.
This woman had temporary SOMETHING! Sometimes it is so hard to come here and read the horrifying things people do.
“”In the state of Virginia as long as the umbilical cord is attached and the placenta is still in the mother, if the baby comes out alive the mother can do whatever she wants to with that baby to kill it,” said Investigator Tracy Emerson. “She could shoot the baby, stab the baby. As long as it’s still attached to her in some form by umbilical cord or something it’s no crime in the state of Virginia.””
Every pro-lifer needs to keep copies of this quote on file as an answer to the oft-told lie that abortion is restricted to the first two trimesters.
I think its illegal to threaten to remove an important military base. Offutt Air Force Base is important to Nebraska. Its one of the places that Bush conducted an important meeting following 9-11.
And what happened in Virginia is just plain SICKENING!
“I think its illegal to threaten to remove an important military base.”
I can’t even imagine what law that would be. They talk about base closures all the time. No one wants to be the one to suggest it, hence the Base Closure Commission.
The base closure is pure bluster aimed at the electorate. A large, central base needs several years of planning in order to close down and reopen elsewhere. Obama has one year down, and the next fiscal year is set. That leaves two years of his term in which to put such a plan into motion.
Were Obama to make such an announcement, he would further galvanize the electorate in the mid-term elections. This would give the Republicans control of at least half of Congress, the House where legislation originates, for the second half of his Presidency, making Obama a lame duck in his first term.
Holding the national defense hostage to domestic political agendas, especially on an issue where 71% f the people now disagree, is political suicide.
I hope he makes the announcement soon.
Dear LawyerfriendHal,
Is it illegal to try and force a yes vote from Nelson on Obamacare by threatening to close Offutt?

depraved and diabolical
The rumor of the base closure makes no sense. Obama campaigned on the promise to deliver a publicly-subsidized health care plan to uninsured Americans. Now that the Senate bill contains no such plan, why would Obama be threatening such dangerous punishments to get it passed. rahm emanuel is undoubtedly twisting arms, bit not at the expense of national security.
The bill as it stands would force Americans to buy lousy private plans, or face fines that are just as expensive as the plans themselves (an estimated 17% of a typical working-class family’s income). Furthermore, why would Obama go after Nelson? The bill is hanging by a thread and the two senators who control its fate are Olympia Snowe (R) and Joe Lieberman (I), who are both saying that they want to kill it.
I want it dead, too. It is not what we Americans need. What we need is the option to get the same health plan that congressmen and senators get. If it is good enough for them, it should be good enough for us. That’ what we need.
Lieberman caved. Don’t know about Snowe.
I might be a bit biased as the Base IS in Nebraska. If we ever have a major attack, that base is vital to our country’s defense. AND to my state’s!

Hi Carla, I don’t know. Given that it’s not uncommon, I would guess it is legal. But, I really don’t know.
Carla,
To paraphrase Mao: “A revolution is not a tee party.”
Some fine china may get broken in the process but that is the price we pay for B.O.’s hope and change.
B.O.’s claim that spending another trillion dollars on health care will save America from bankruptcy is a ‘LIE’.
B.O. is a liar.
If any pro-lifer, or conservative, or christian had made an absurdly false statement like that the lame scream lap dog media be on them like bums on a taxpayer funded balogna sandwich.
That bit of B.O. bovine scatulations is as obviously false as his claim that he visited all 57 of the United States of America.
I want all you obama devotees to get B.O. logos tatooed on your foreheads and on the sleeves of your ‘brown shirts’ so they will be clearly visible when you raise your arms in praise and honor to your ‘god/man’.
That way when we are standing in the soup line to get our daily bread and someone says you were with B.O., you won’t be able to deny your association with your messiah, by praying loudly and pronouncing blessing on those around you in a an attempt to evade your culpability.
yor bor ken
Grace for you, Jill. It is clear to see why you became an advocate for the defenseless babies. I don’t know how you deal with this everyday. May God have mercy on America.
“Vengeance is mine, I will repay says the Lord God”.
“God is not mocked, whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
I’m no lawyer Mr. Hal although I know quite a few, but I am going to go out on a limb here and say YES! Yes it is illegal to force a yes vote on Obamacare by threatening to close Offutt!!
extortion
the crime of obtaining money or some other thing of value by the abuse of one’s office or authority
Not saying that the threat to Nelson is real or verified yet, I’m just saying.
Ken,
Yep. Lies.
I met Mr. Freeman in Eugene at the abortion mill on E. 11th. Admits what he did, but reminded us to pray that the babies who are being aborted because they feel pain. He asked us to pray for God to have mercy on the babies, so that they would not hurt. He does exhibit some mental issues, but he very clearly has love for the unborn. I am sorry he made the threating calls.
Hi Carla,
Do you think most women with unplanned pregnancies could be suffering from an anxiety disorder? Maybe if treated she won’t choose the abortion?
I’m not trying to take away her responsibility for her actions, just trying to figure out the mindset. (Of course there are many other reasons women choose abortion, among those the reasons you cite above.)
Speaking for me, I was in a state of shock! The anxiety, fear and panic I felt was fueled by the fact that I was alone in my decision.
Finding out you are pregnant is life changing for ANYONE! I don’t care who you are. I don’t know if I would call it a disorder but a state of panic caused by a perceived crisis. I felt I was in a crisis and looking back it didn’t have to be that way. I am sorry I didn’t look for help, search for someone who would understand and be there for me. Someone who would have told me that everything was going to be all right. It wouldn’t have looked or felt like a crisis with a friend beside me to help me see that being pregnant was not the end of the world and that abortion was not the answer.
Janet,
Deep down this is what I wanted….someone to reassure me that
YES I was a mother.
YES my baby was growing.
YES I could have a career.
YES I was strong enough to
raise a child.
YES I would receive help
and support.
YES life would go on.
YES my situation was tough
but not impossible.
YES I would get through it.
YES I was 10 weeks along.
YES my baby had fingers, hands, arms, legs, feet, toes, a fully formed body and all of her organ systems are in place.
YES an abortion would end the life of my girl.
I just wanted to mention that it is normal for any woman who has just found out she is pregnant to feel anxious, overwhelmed, shocked. Even if her pregnancy is planned!
I am expecting my third child. Each of the three times I found out I was pregnant, I felt a little dizzy… overwhelmed, shocked, but happy too. All of our children were planned. Having a child IS a life-changing, huge thing. I just think that more people should make it known that it is normal and OK to feel anxious/overwhelmed/shocked when you find you are pregnant and that even women who are pregnant and WANTED to be pregnant can have these feelings. Women/girls with unplanned pregnancies need to know that this is normal and OK and that there is help if they need help, and that things will be OK. You can work through these feelings and feeling this way doesn’t mean you can’t work it out and go on to love your child – whether that means raising him/her yourself or giving him/her to a loving adoptive couple. I think many abortions happen out of a sense of panic – “I’m pregnant, my life is over, what do I do now, I have to get rid of it!”
Carla,
Political horse trading is not “forcing” someone to vote a certain way on a bill. It’s not pretty, like making sausage they say. I say this as someone who wants the bill in its current form to fail. I wish they’d just say “too many on the right have destroyed most of the good that could come from this bill, we’ll try again after the next election.”
I concur armywife!!
My last boy was completely unplanned(not by God)and came at a time when my marriage was shaky at best, we were in a huge amount of debt and had no health insurance. Those same feelings of panic rose and I FOUGHT against the feelings and KNEW that our baby was going to live and grow and be. I love you, Timmers.
hgw,
Ok.
What a sick culture of death. It breaks my heart. You can hire someone to murder someone else who causes you anxiety, as long as that person is too small to hire a lawyer. You can order someone completely innocent of any crime murdered in cruel and unusually heinous ways, as long as they’re attached physically to you at the time. How did we get here?
It probably started when we treated fellow human beings as property because of the color of their skin. (Slavery) Then we treated those of a different Religion as different (Holocaust). And now we treat unborn babies differently because of their development age.
Carla and army_wife,
Thanks for your insights. I think “panic” was the word I was looking for. I agree that we can experience panic in many areas of our lives and we need to learn to work through it. Especially with an unexpected pregnancy. Its not right that pro-abortion groups demonize crisis pregnancy centers when women are desperate for help.
Does anyone recall Heidi Anfinson? She drowned her two week old son Jacob in a lake in 1998. I remembered this story and I found a news story that mentioned her and mentioned she had had an abortion in 1985 and suffered depression and psychosis ever since then. But that it wasn’t allowed to be brought into the trial.
in the book “Forbidden Grief” Dr. Theresa Burke talks about several high-profile cases where mothers murdered their children and they all have in common the fact that the mothers had had abortions in their past. Susan Smith who drowned her two kids had an abortion.Lorena Bobbitt who mutilated her husband did so out of revenge for an abortion he made her have. There were several other cases of mothers having abortions then flinging their children off bridges, rooftops etc…
Abortion deadens the maternal instinct. I think it is possible to heal from that and go on to become a good mother (Carla is a good example) but we can’t ignore what abortion does to the female psyche. How many of these cases of mothers smothering their newborns are linked to an abortion in years past? Probably more than we know or might suspect.
I know several women who have struggled and suffered for years with addictions, depression, divorce, child abuse and neglect and they would NEVER connect the dots back to their abortions.
Sydney M,
Very interesting…
