- In response to the failed attempt to override NJ Gov. Chris Christie’s veto of family planning funds, a Planned Parenthood in Cherry Hill is closing.
- Judge Mike Caldwell has ruled that the LA health department can’t enforce their recent suspension order of an abortion clinic’s license:DHH spokeswoman Lisa Faust said department attorneys will review the transcript of the hearing and make recommendations on how to proceed.
“We are disappointed that this abortion facility can remain open while we go through the process of revoking its license,” she said. “We want to assure LA women that we will continue to fight to protect them from unsafe abortion facilities.”
- Researchers hoping to use embryonic stem cells to treat spinal cord injuries have decided that jockey Michael Martinez is not a suitable patient for the procedure because his injury is too severe. Dr. David Seftel, a track physician, then claims that adult stem cell research which has actually been used to treat humans is not “as promising” as embryonic stem cell research, which has been used to treat rats.
- A CA man is facing the possibility of 25 years in prison after being “found guilty of 1 count of conspiracy to commit murder and 1 count of attempted murder”:Oxnard resident Jaime Solis Olmos, 22, is facing 25 years to life in prison for paying 2 men $500 to stage a robbery and punch his pregnant girlfriend so she would have a miscarriage….
Olmos reportedly did not want to support a child or his girlfriend, Justina Cornejo, after she told him she would not get an abortion….
In January 2008, while the couple was parked in a car at a Newbury Park overlook, the men attacked the woman, punching her in the face and stomach.
Cornejo later gave birth to a baby boy, who is now a healthy 2-year-old.

In the article about the closing of the Cherry Hill PP the article laments the following:
Brown said one in four American women have used Planned Parenthood services nationwide and family planning agencies helped prevent nearly 40,000 unplanned pregnancies, which saved the state millions of dollars in health-related costs.
Now how do they know they prevented 40,000 unplanned pregnancies…..is that like the stimulus package that saved xxx number of jobs. No way to prove it.
Susie, it makes me wonder if they actually “prevented” them or “snuffed them out.”
You’re right, there’s no possible way for them to know that.
Susie: I’m guessing they have some number of women/year who have “unplanned” pregnancies (ie come to them for abortion) and multiply it out by the number of women who used their birth control services.
In the article once again Planned Parenthood makes claims about the value of it’s contraceptive services. I saw Jill’s analysis of the 2008 PP statictics but she only focuses on services to Pregnant women – she points out 96% of “services” to pregnant women are abortions. But what percent overall of their services are the birth control? I saw on ALL that only .1% of their services are general health care. I want to make a case in the comments, but don’t have the data. I was hoping it had already been fully analyzed…
Denise – What counts as “a service”? Women get a pap, a breast exam, a urinalyis,.. the list goes on.. is obviously multiple services for EACH woman. This would reduce even further their % of other services as compared to abortion. I also have an issue with this 1 in 4 women have abortion stat. Some women have multiple abortions. Do they count them multiple times? I think not.
Justsnapd8 – that’s a good point. Just trying to find some way to compare the non-abortion service to the percent abortion services. PP makes it sound like abortion is a tiny portion of what they do. I’m want to check the numbers to see if that’s true. The basic point is that any money for them helps them provide abortions. They can’t be the only low-cost clinic out there…D
The list of services Planned Parenthood provides is very long but you only ever hear about one… Abortion. In my area of the country Abortion makes up less than 5% of services administered in their clinics. The amount of pregnancies and diseases prevented and treated by PP really cannot be counted. That is what the government funds go to, public health issues like disease control and prevention but you won’t hear about that on this site.
If the case against abortion is so compelling and full of medical facts then why not present your case to the AMA. If they think it’s an unsafe practice they have the power to stop it. The answer is that you don’t have a good case or the medical facts to convince the AMA they are wrong and should over turn their opinion and recommendations.
So guess it time to head to the internet for some disinformation.
Abortion is not a political issue; it’s a medical issue that has been hijacked by right-wing conservative “sure they are, bondage strip club anyone” politicians for political juice. Bush Jr. ran on a social conservative platform, but once elected, how many laws did he pass that relate to social conservatism?
If you are right take your case to the people who study medicine instead of bullying young girls outside women’s health clinics. Why is there a need to protest and organize if your argument is SO medically compelling?
Sorry – no bullying allowed! Just today a young woman walked up to people who were praying outside our local PP. The young woman has scheduled an abortion for Friday morning. She said she was doing that because if she adopted her child out to another couple she would not get to see her child (she thought that is how adoptions worked). dennis explained that she picks the couple and decides how much contact she gets with her child. She is not restricted from seeing her child unless that is what is agreed to. She was surprised. He asked her to look into it.
So basically – some women choose abortion because they truly do not know the true choices there are for them. And of course, they do not count on people helping them with goods and services.
I’m trying to figure a way to start a college fund for those youngsters, so the families have something long-term to look forward to. I hope that becomes a reality someday…
And I don’t see any medical necessity here, no bullying – just help.
Biggz: if the medical services PP provides were so successful in preventing unwanted pregnancies, why are there still abortions? PP spreads misinformation – they have an agenda to promote abortion as healthcare while they pretend they are about what is best for the woman. Remember 96% of the services they provide to pregnant women are abortions. If they really provide abortion alternatives why is there adoption rates so low? It’s not profitable? Oh the surprise!
If I charge a penny for service A and ten dollars for service B, my bookkeeper’s gonna figure out real quick how I make my living. PP isn’t fooling us.

This is so true. I have seen this many times while volunteering with local Crisis Pregnancy Refuge services.
Wasn’t there a proposed law which would require every PP “clinic” to provide an ultrasound to each pregnant girl/woman?
Are they required to mention the alternatives to abortion? If not, they should be.
One thing that really, really bothers me is the high cost of adoption as compared to abortions. Abortions cost hundreds of dollars (assuming they have to be paid for), while adoption costs thousands of dollars. :(

This certainly seems to negate/refute the argument that availability of abortion would reduce/eliminate inhumanity to young women who are pregnant with unwanted children, doesn’t it?
Biggz, the AMA has no power at all to stop abortions. That’s because the Supreme Court decided back in 1973 that women have a right to them — in the face of medical and scientific facts.
Nine men (none of them doctors by the way) decided that the 2,000 or so year-old-prohibition of abortion in the Hippocratic oath was worth nothing.
Harry Backman, the judge who wrote the decision admitted that he himself didn’t know when human life began (though science and medicine easily could have told him). He nevertheless figured he could arbitrarily when the unborn got human rights — which is basically, not until they are born.
So a decision about biological and medical issues was made by judges for political and social reasons.
And you’re accusing US of politicizing this issue? Try to learn the facts before commenting next time.
Gov. Christie is the bomb

What she said.
You continue to sound like the Iraqi spokesperson whom the news media folks mockingly referred to as ‘Mr. Magoo’. [The spokesman resemble the carton character and did did appear to be at least legally blind.]
‘Mr. Magoo’ was on live TV from downtown Baghdad denying there were American soldiers in Iraq as U. S. Army humvees, APC’s and tanks were rolling by in the background.
or
You sound like the president of Iran, Mahmoud ‘Iminadamnjihad’, claiming there are no homosexuals in Iran, while Columbia college students who were in attendance laughed in derision and dismay. [Maybe ‘Iminadamnjihad was certain he had already killed them all or purged any survivors from the country.]
or b o asserting that America is the world’s largest muslim nation [Perhaps b o is counting those other seven states he says he visited during the presidential campaign.]
You apperat to be quite familiar with pp. Gather the facts from your in house sources and prove your case.
We are waiting, but we are not holding our collective/individual breath.
Biggz,
pp will qualify almost any female to recieve federal/state funds to subsidize the services which they receive.
Then pp charges more for these services than they do for the customers who pay for their own services.
The cash that pp receives for customers who pay their own bill is ‘fungible’. This frees up money to be diverted into pp executives pockets and/or into political campaigns which are almost exclusively liberal.
pp is a like a crack whore for the democRAT political machine. The relationship is co-dependent but there is no doubt who the pimp is.
Biggz, the AMA cannot make abortion illegal because they are a private entity. The President of the United States cannot make abortion illegal because of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. The only way to outlaw abortion is to either ratify the constitution or have Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton overturned by the very court that legalized abortion. Understand these things before continuing any debate regarding the issue in our country.
As an aside, the only thing that anyone needs to know is that scientific fact proves that every abortion kills a human being. The AMA knows this, the ANA knows this, the government knows this, all educated people know this. Knowledge is not the problem, Biggz. The problem is in imperfect logic resulting from self-serving ideology which leads to the bending of the truth and eventually lies (aka PP).
