(Prolifer)ations 9-21-10

- Wesley J. Smith discusses the search and destroy mentality of many medical professionals when it comes to unborn children with Down Syndrome, and how the pressure to abort causes women to avoid prenatal testing.
- Stand for Life theorizes that “the Tea Party is very smart to ignore the pro-life issue but eventually get the result of getting pro-life candidates elected anyway.”
- Pro-Life Wisconsin protested Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards in WI, and soon after, PP sent out this notice to supporters, attempting to raise $5k in a day:
- It has been 3 months and PLW has yet to receive any note. Either the fund raiser didn’t go well or perhaps all the notes got lost in the mail…
- National Pro Life Radio highlights the fact that the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation has changed its name to The Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network and hopes “… to continue to develop and update our network to help families protect their loved ones from a very aggressive anti-life agenda taking control of our nation.” The new logo and website that can be seen at the same web address, terrisfight.org.
- Fr. Frank Pavone relates the life issue to the Lord’s Prayer:When we pray to be delivered from the evil one, we are praying to be delivered from the culture of death, and to stay faithful to Christ’s Kingdom of Life. We are praying that we will not be deceived by the false promises of the evil one, who presents abortion as a solution to a problem, though it is no such thing.
- Mark Pickup, a self-described “triplegic with advanced multiple sclerosis,” often lends insight to the struggles of the disabled and how their suffering has meaning. Pickup quotes C.S. Lewis’ views on suffering from The Problem of Pain:No doubt Pain as God’s megaphone is a terrible instrument; it may lead to final and unrepented rebellion. But it gives the only opportunity the bad man can have for amendment. It removes the veil; it plants the flag of truth within the fortress of a rebel mind.
He includes a brief clip from Shadowlands in which the subject is addressed:
I used to work with MH (mentally handicapped) people, including those with Down Syndrome. With the proper support, many can lead productive lives. I read that 90 percent of children with Down Syndrome are aborted.
Many doctors are quick to tell women to abort, even when they’re not carrying “defective” children. My sister became pregnant right before her 40th birthday and was encouraged to abort because she has multiple sclerosis and other health issues. Even her jerk husband told her to get “rid of it.” Well, my lovely niece will turn fourteen next month.
I notice a constant every time Planned Parenthood begs for donations, even when it’s spite against pro-lifers.
Pregnancy care centers ask for used cars, and diapers, and baby clothes, and maternity clothes, and school supplies, and children’s Christmas gifts…
Planned Parenthood always asks for the same thing. Money.
Planned Parenthood is incredibly childish. “We’ll drop them a note letting them know a donation has been made in their name…” Wow. Yeah. Mature.
My parents have worked with the mentally disabled for sixteen years now and I’ve met and gotten to know several individuals with Down syndrome. They are happy individuals, often high-functioning, with a child-like enjoyment of life. My parents have been caring for a woman with Downs for ten years now (she lives with them) and whenever I visit, she likes to hang out with my children, coloring together, having conversations, singing together. It’s very sweet. And she’s happy. I’ve always viewed those with Downs as children in adult bodies. They have a special spirit about them and a love for life. We can learn so much from them. I don’t know why anyone would choose to abort such a precious life; especially in the so-called name of “mercy.”
And having such a love for life, it’s doubly tragic that 90 % of them are targeted for death before they’ve had any chance to enjoy it. It’s a cruel, selfish world out there.
