Sunday extra: Obama seeks divine intervention, asks clergy to pimp Obamacare
As McWay noted, “So much for ‘Separation of Church & State.'”
Reported The Blaze on September 22:
With approval ratings plummeting and support for the new health care law waning, the president is scrambling for ways to sell his health care overhaul. Possibly looking for a miracle, he’s turning to church leaders who preach about such events to deliver one.
“Obama, alongside other top administration officials, beseeched thousands of faith-based and community organizations to preach the gospel on new insurance reforms, chiefly the Patients’ Bill of Rights.” That’s how Politico describes a conference call that featured the president on Tuesday.
Added Politico:
With nothing else working, President Barack Obama is asking religious leaders to help him sell the public on health care reform….
Obama instructed faith leaders to treat the new law as settled fact and use their perches of power to convey that message to congregants and friends.
“The debate in Washington is over, the Affordable Care Act is now law…. I think all of you can be really important validators… ” he said.
Obama, a firm believer in repeating lies often enough to make them fact. More from Focus on the Family’s Citizen Link…
Facing sizable losses in both the U.S. House and Senate – and quite possibly control of one or both chambers – [and] [w]ith public opposition to the new law now above 60% – and increasing – Obama turned for help to the faith-based groups and community activists who support the law….
One day after health care’s 6-month anniversary, Obama’s promise of, “If you like your policy, you can keep your policy,” sounded hollow to Minnesotans when they learned that 2 state-based health insurers, HealthPartners and Blue Cross and Blue Shield, temporarily suspended individual health insurance policies.
The reason: the uncertainty surrounding new federal regulations and compliance provisions that went into effect Wednesday….
Unfortunately, millions of seniors on Medicare are also finding out the hard way that they can’t keep their policy.
The American Association of Retired People announced that next week it will shut down its prescription drug plan, MedicareRX Preferred. AARP, an active promoter of Obamacare, attracted 1.5 million seniors into its plan with its lower costs. Now, these seniors will see prescription prices jump 15% or more, as they are forced into a higher plan.
Ed Morrissey at HotAir.com summarized the consequences:
“Seniors will be getting this news a month before the midterm elections, as will others impacted by decisions like those made by Minnesota insurers. It’s practically timed to enrage the electorate in an already volatile election cycle. That’s the part of ObamaCare that Democrats will be discovering in 5 weeks.”

So where are the seperation of church and state police?
“The call included the administration’s highest-ranking health reform officials: Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, White House Office of Health Reform director Nancy Ann-DeParle, and Assistant to the President for Special Products Stephanie Cutter.”

‘Stealthcare/hellthscare’ REFORM
‘papa Joe’ Stalin, the humanist responsible for the deliberate deaths of millions of his own fellow Russians euphemistically referred to his pogrom/program as ‘agrarian reform’.
Whenever you hear liberal/progressive/humanists advocating anything with ‘reform’ attached to it (‘health care/immigration/education/economic, etc.) think of the results of papa joes and chairman mao’s ‘reforms’ .

Yikes.
I’ve always loved the hypocrisy of the left when it comes to their mantra of “separation of church and state.” They don’t usually even take the tenets of faith seriously unless there is something to be gained from it politically.
Mary and Kel:
My sentiments exactly–where ARE the separation of c&s people?? Kind of like the pro-aborts who suddenly fell silent about medical decisions being made between a woman and her doctor–where were these voices when Obamacare legislation was bulldozing over it and replacing it with regulatory agency fiat?
Our MSM are ideological puppets of the regime.
Where are the separation of church & state people?
*raising hand*
May the record reflect that SecularProLife.org members find President Obama’s actions to be completely inappropriate.
CitizenLink is missing the point – more Americans actually believe that we need MORE overhaul when it comes to healthcare – “A new AP poll finds that Americans who think the law should have done more outnumber those who think the government should stay out of health care by 2-to-1.”
“The poll found that about four in 10 adults think the new law did not go far enough to change the health care system, regardless of whether they support the law, oppose it or remain neutral. On the other side, about one in five say they oppose the law because they think the federal government should not be involved in health care at all.” http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gSXIViw_RWvU3uweKkhKfhAVGgqgD9IF4ET80

EGV,
Just how well informed about the present law are these people? After all, didn’t Princess Pelosi say we would have to pass the law before we know what is in it?
What exactly “more” do people want and how is it supposed to be paid for?
Are they aware that Obama appointed an admirer of the British National Health boondoggle and supporter of rationing to head the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services without the advice and consent of the congress and senate? Berwick has since refused to grand interviews or answer senator’s questions.
Why do you suppose Obama would do something like this EGV?
Er… EGV, could you explain why you think an AP poll (which was essentially a modified online survey, at that) is so much more reliable than are the multiple ones showing a majority of supporters for repeal? (See http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/current_events/healthcare/health_care_law for one example.) If so many people are truly in favour of “more ObamaCare”, wouldn’t they be less in favour of repeal, and more in favour of supplemental bills?
Mary –
First, you are taking Pelosi’s quote more than a little out of context:
“You’ve heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. But I don’t know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention—it’s about diet, not diabetes. It’s going to be very, very exciting.
“But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.
On Berwick – is Obama the first President to use recess appointments?
Berwick’s contention is that insurance companies and society at large already ration care – he believes there should be more transparency in it.
Off Topic~ Hi, EGV. I don’t have time to weigh in on the discussion on this thread. Just want to know if your little one has made her arrival yet :) Hope all is well.
Paladin –
Two completely different question sets.
Is there a question you’ve seen asking what people want if the reform is repealed? Or why people don’t like the bill? It is all about survey methodology, and this is one of the first polls I’ve seen that goes beyond repeal or not, and asks if the bill went far enough. On the people who say repeal, how many of them want a repeal back to status quo, and how many want repeal and pass universal coverage? That’s two entirely different things – know what I mean?
Furthermore, I could send you a breakdown on Rasmussen specifically and the polling issues they’ve had – could post if you are interested.
FedUP – Thanks for asking!
Yes – a week and a half ago – little girl was born. Three girls in the family now (fourth counting my wife! – I’m in trouble!
All is going well and all are healthy.
CONGRATULATIONS, EGV! I hope your wife is feeling well and that this is a time of great joy for all of you. I also hope these womenfolk in your life can help straighten up that faulty liberal thinking of yours. Wish I had time to respond to your remarks on this thread but I don’t. Again, Congrats!!!
EGV,
I’m trying to give you the benefit of the doubt on this one, but your last comment really seems to be getting close to the “disingenuous” mark.
1) The mere fact that a 2000+ page bill was passed with as many efforts to “speed the process” far beyond any lawmaker’s reasonable ability to read (much less comprehend, digest, analyze and tease out even some of the implications) should tell you that your interpretation of Nancy Pelosi’s comment was on the “spin” side of things. No sane person denies the fact that this bill was “fast-tracked” in every sense of the word, even to the point of an attempt to have it “deemed passed” (you remember that, right); letting anyone (except its original authors) know, much less comprehend, the bill’s contents really wasn’t on the left’s agenda.
2) “more transparency” (re: Berwick)? Oh, come now! We also want more transparency; but we want it for the sake of seeing the evil clearly; he wants more transparency while APPROVING of the rationing (and wishing it increased). That’s an important point, over which you really shouldn’t gloss.
EGV,
First and foremost my congratulations on your new baby. I wish you and your family the very best.
How have I taken Pelosi’s quote out of context? I will agree there were controversies concerning the bill. My goodness, bribery, arm twisting, legislators shoving their middle fingers in the faces of the American people.
EGV, while lost in your fantasy world of preventive care you neglect to mention how this is paid for. Free only means someone else is footing the bill.
No Obama isn’t the first to use recess appts. but the question is why would he? Didn’t he promise transparency? His excuse was Republicans would obstruct the appt., the only problem with this argument is that Democrats control Congress and the Senate. Any idea why Berwick won’t answer questions from the senate?
Do your research on Berwick EGV. There’s a reason why Obama appointed him without the advice and consent of the people’s representatives.
he wants more transparency while APPROVING of the rationing (and wishing it increased).
Hi Paladin. Please don’t forget that Mr Berwick has exempted himself and his wife from submitting to the regulations he will be imposing on Medicare beneficiaries. The Berwicks are guaranteed private coverage that makes certain they will never have to rely on Medicare. If his vision for health care is good for the rest of the nation, why are he and his spouse not willing to participate in it themselves?
Good heavens… I missed that important point! Congratulations on the birth of your daughter, EGV! :) (God grant you and your wife “quick sleep” to make up for whatever you may lose…)
Fed Up,
(*wry look*) Yes, I thought that was rather odd, too! (Thanks for reminding me of that!)
Hi Fed Up, 3:30PM
Well how interesting.
EGV,
Congratulations on baby girl!! :)
I find it ironic that Planned Parenthood also targeted pillars of church communities to advance their program of eugenics. Obama has acted in a despicable manner toward Christians, and being Catholic, I take special Dolores Umbridge at how he has treated the Catholic church. And now he wants religious leaders to help him. Most smart religious leaders would agree that subsidiarity is the way to go. If you give communities enough of our own money by not taxing us to death, then we can solve our problems on a local level. Centralized socialized medicine run by the government is a nightmare. It’ll make the DMV seem fun.
Good evening, Mary *waves*
I believe it was the potential financial and other conflicts of interest that prompted Mr Berwick’s recess appointment more than his radical views. Confirmation hearings would have forced transparency into more of his ties (financial and otherwise) with health care special interest groups that contribute to his foundation.
Congrats on the baby girl Ex-GOP.
Didn’t you hear Louis Farrakhan say “The Messiah is indeed coming” before the election? Since the “waters have parted” and “The Messiah” himself told Harry Reid “I’ve got the power”,” divine intervention is not what is needed, he told Prince Harry “you’ve got me”. Him. It’s all about him, him, him . Oh, I forgot it is about ensuring that every woman who wants a dead baby is guaranteed to get one, even the ones who survive a botched abortion.
God help all the innocent unborn babies.
Hi PLL 11:57PM
So why didn’t Obama the Messiahaaaa part the waters of the Gulf of Mexico making it easier to seal the oil leak?
Good question Mary. Hmmmmm. Wonder why not?
I grew up in the black church (African Methodist Episcopalian) and later on attended Baptist churches. Especially in the big-city churches, it’s quite common for the ministers to endorse candidates from the pulpit — it happens all the time, and I’ve heard them do it – yet no one says anything, probably for fear of appearing racist. Yet, my Catholic friends have to stand so many feet from their churches in order to even pass out prolife literature or voter guides.
Double standard much?
Just a quick note: Thank you, Paladin, and the others who have gently pointed out the flaws in EGV’s reasoning.
I am personally outraged that Obama would try to pull something like this. On the other hand, it shows how desperate he’s becoming, how he really doesn’t understand how out of touch he is.
I am personally outraged that Obama would try to pull something like this. On the other hand, it shows how desperate he’s becoming, how he really doesn’t understand how out of touch he is.
Meh, I’m not surprised. But even though I (very reluctantly) voted for McCain, I did want Obama to succeed. Even though I disagree with him on many things, I have to admit that as a black woman I was proud to see him become leader of the free world. Unless things turn around quickly, he’s going to be a one-term president.
I have to admit that Obama’s done some good things. The healthcare plan isn’t all bad. Starting in January, parents will be able to put their children on their health care plans, up until the age of 26. That’s a boon for those of us with students in college.
Yea I can’t imagine a reason why clergy might want to see healthcare for ALL CHILDREN up to 26 in the USA? Wasn’t Jesus a healer?
I often wonder if there would even be an argument from you guys if abortion was not in this law at all? If Obama’s Healthcare Reform specifically did not cover abortion in any way shape or form. If it in fact stated that any abortion services must be paid in full by recipients, would you guys be against it?
This story is a good example of how Obama tries to reach out for bi-partisan support. Just because the republicans and tea party slap his hand every time hasn’t stopped him from trying. You have to admit that from the second he hit office he has seen nothing but a brick wall from the republicans. Yes its true his ambitions may have been aimed a little high in the run up to his election but I don’t think he realized the amount of contempt he would face from republicans and FOX news.
In 2008 the republicans lost everything… and they are still mad about it. They told us they would stonewall Obama for 4 years and so far they have done so, but at what cost. Rather than whining and crying about losing the house ,senate, and white house, maybe they might consider actually trying to help the country since it was their party that put this country in such a bad state.
Biggz:
Taxpayer funding of abortion is only the tip of the iceberg as to what’s wrong with ObamaCare. The one provision you mention is something we can all support, too. The problem is that’s not the only effect; there are 2000 pages in this law that enact all sorts of things that 1. Are too expensive 2. Are unconstitutional 3. Are a step toward government seizing the entire medical industry.
As for opposition to Obama, I don’t oppose him because he’s a Democrat, but because his many unconstitutional policies are destroying the country, and because he completely ignores the people’s will, arrogantly believing he knows better than we do what’s good for us. You notice that Obama is opposed by the vast majority of citizens. Four out of five people see clearly that ObamaCare will result in paying more and getting less healthcare.
I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican. Both parties have taken our country down the road of decay, and it’s time to take it back.
A 26 year old is an adult.
I thought abortion was about “choice??” I CHOOSE not to pay for someone else’s abortion.
Carla – As Americans we pay taxes. We do not get to decide how our taxes are spent, by that I mean we cannot designate how much of our income tax is spent on education or on police and fire departments. FYI you pay for abortion every time you make an insurance payment. Most insurance companies cover partially, if not in full, for abortion services. You never hear about this because it’s none of your business as the “rights to privacy in medical treatment” are protected by law.
“Rolls Eyes” Yes Carla 26yo is a legal adult but as most college students “18-26” don’t have a job, they have no other source of medical coverage. For college kids who have persistent illnesses that require medication this is nothing short of a legislative blessing. What’s truly sad is that our government has to force insurance companies to actually care about sick kids and young people and not just their stock prices…
Paladin –
Man – gone a day, back to lots of responses needed.
First off, did you need any info on Rasmussen methodology?
Second – in regards to your two comments – why is it that if a bill is big, then it is automatically bad. Would the right feel better about an overhaul of healthcare if it was, lets say, 50 pages? I mean, it’s a big chunk of the economy. Anyways, is what happened not commonplace? In fact, the bill seemed to be out a heck of a lot longer than the Medicare expansion bill was – or the Patriot Act. Can you tell me a bill that was out there longer that people knew more about?
Third – you will have to take it up with Berwick – his quote. I don’t know on rationing – seems like though everyone fears something that exists already (unless you are near death – then you’ll get care).
Mary –
I’ll continue this conversation with you if you go to this page and copy and paste part of the legislative history in here – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicare_Prescription_Drug,_Improvement,_and_Modernization_Act
You’ve made the comment about the bribery and such before – I’ve said before that it is nothing new (and while not something that is good, something that has existed forever) – so I want to make sure you see that.
Lastly – thanks on the congrats!
scragsma – I hear what you are saying but I also think there needs to be a government run program by which the insurance companies must compete with in order to keep them honest. The problem is that there is no one standing up for the rights of policy holders and no standards with which to measure the performance of private insurance companies against. That is what this will end up being I think. As long as there is no law that says we have to use the governments program “and there isn’t” then its good healthy competition for the private sector. As, far as a law that states that all children must have coverage under penalty of the law, I am all for it. All children SHOULD have medical coverage mandated by the federal government. How can this be the greatest nation on earth if we cannot even heal our sick children?
Like I said, Biggz. I will not pay for abortion. I will refuse. I will practice civil disobedience. I will go to jail before I pay for the murder of a child through abortion.
To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of an idea which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. Thomas Jefferson
You are so cute when you roll your eyes.
EGV,
I’m afraid I don’t see the point of your posting this article.
If you have no issue with senators like Landrieu and Nelson taking millions in bribes, and shoving their middle fingers in their constituents’ faces, so as to follow the dictates of Obama, Reid and Pelosi, so be it.
‘Like I said, Biggz. I will not pay for abortion. I will refuse. I will practice civil disobedience. I will go to jail before I pay for the murder of a child through abortion.’ – unfortunately Carla, there is no ‘opt out’ option when it comes to taxation. It all goes in and it gets spent where it gets spent. Voting is as close as it gets. There are many things that I wish my taxes didn’t pay for but I realize I have limited choice in the matter.
Thomas Jefferson’s words are laudable, but accordingly every single citizen is being treated with sin and tyranny. So what do we do? Shut down the government? Who would then raise defence forces, build large scale infrastructure such as railways, or establish laws?
I will vote.
I will not pay for anyone’s abortion.
What other “many things” kill innocent babies in the womb besides abortion??!!
Carla – I’m not sure what state you are from – but my guess is that if you have health insurance and pay taxes to a state, you have been contributing towards abortions for years. Just a guess. I’m not saying your stance is noble – I’m just saying.
No my health insurance doesn’t pay for abortions. Just sayin.
That’s good Carla – if most folks call their insurance provider, most would find that RU-486 is covered.
Carla – somehow, in some way, to at least a small extent – you are. Unless you pay no taxes, state fees, and all sorts of payments.
When you buy a product or service some of the payment could be contributing to employee healthcare, and that may just cover abortion or related services.
It’s like when there’s a terrible show on television – I’m contributing to it’s production because I shop.
You do not seem to understand what I am saying, Cran. Although that is par for the course with you. :)
I do not KNOWINGLY contribute to the killing of innocent preborn children.
God forbid Obamacare gets rolling….I will not purchase the insurance. I will pay the fines and go to jail.
I boycott Caribou Coffee when it does its Susan G Komen month long deal. I wrote a letter to the head of Caribou Coffee.
I bought Northern toilet paper and didn’t notice the pink ribbon of SGK until I got home. I took it back and wrote a letter to Northern.
I find out what businesses and companies give to Planned Parenthood and I boycott them.
http://www.fightpp.org
My insurance does not pay for abortions. My state does not use my tax dollars for abortion.
I do not KNOWINGLY give to the abortion industry. As a post abortive mom I find that thought abhorrent.
In fact the thought of it makes me want to throw up. I have talked with many of my post abortive mom friends that feel the same way.
OK Carla, but you must acknowledge that there is quite a difference between ‘I will not pay for anyone’s abortion.’ and ‘I do not KNOWINGLY contribute…’. As long as you are aware.
Cranium –
What I personally find interesting is that there was a blind eye for a long time – in fact, the GOP’s own insurance plan covered abortion until pretty recently. But all of the sudden, a President wants to expand healthcare, and now all of the sudden it is all the moral rage (when again, it has existed for years and wasn’t much of a deal to these same people).
Personally, I hope that the reform continues to be tweaked and made stronger because if some of the cost control measures work and insurance rates start getting reigned in, that will have an impact in this whole argument. My wife and I do pretty okay for ourselves, but we would never have even tried for kid three if it wasn’t for my job switch last year that brought much better coverage – it simply would have been too expensive as we had to continually worsen our coverage just to keep the increases to the lower double-digits.
Ok cran but you must acknowledge that I have made myself quite clear about what I will not pay for!!!!
I am fully aware of abortion. Yes.
I think there are a couple of points at play here Ex-GOP Voter.
Firstly, the fundamental, rabid, deep-seated hatred for Obama and all he represents due to the absolute anathema amongst the Republicans for anything ‘social’. Thus the ‘birthers’ and the tea party.
Secondly, the world is now alert to fundamentalism thanks to some islamofascists and their drive for a caliphate. Most people take a secular response. Some take a religious fundamental approach thinking that is the best way of combating islamofascism. Thus the vocal and visible stirrings of the truly religious. The secularists have also noted this and thus conflicts such as those which take place everywhere from blogs such as this to the sheer spite being displayed in the political arena.
An examination of statistics on factors such as prosperity gaps, social inclusion, abortion, drug addiction and crime shows that nations such as the Netherlands and Scandinavia are fairer, healthier and more inclusive than America. Unfortunately.
ALBUQUERQUE — President Obama expounded Tuesday on the reasons he became a Christian as an adult, telling a group of residents here that he was a “Christian by choice” and that “the precepts of Jesus Christ spoke to me in terms of the kind of life that I would want to lead – being my brother and sister’s keeper.”
Mr. Obama, who has been criticized by conservative pundits who have questioned his Christian faith, gave a lengthy discourse on it in response to a woman who said she had three “hot topic questions” for him.
The first was: “Why are you a Christian?”
The second was on abortion — the president said it should be “safe, legal and rare”
============================================================
b o’s ‘biological’ brother at last report was still living in a one room hut in Kenya.
b o’s aunt, Zeituni Onyango, 56, referred to as “Aunti Zeituni” in Obama’s memoir, has been living in the United States illegally and receiving welfare and she is upset because her ‘christian by choice’ nephew and POTUS has not assisted her.
‘cofcc.org/2010/09/obamas-aunt-is-an-illegal-alien-welfare-queen/‘
‘wbztv.com/local/obama.aunt.zeituni.2.1921954.html‘
‘christian by choice’: I have visited with ‘christians’ from many different nations and cultures and none of them ever said they were a ‘christian by choice’ but rather they were saved by grace.
b o said he wants to keep pre-natal homicide’safe, legal and rare’ and, by extrapolation from his previous actions, b o wants to keep infanticide safe and legal as well.
Nothing b o has done is consistent with keeping prenatal homicide rare.
