NYC’s oldest and largest abortion clinic stops due to pro-life protests
With the autumn 40 Days for Life campaign just underway, this great news provides more evidence that sustained pro-life presence in front of abortion clinics hurts business, whether we think so at the time or not.
From New York Daily News, October 1, comes this article, the title and subtitle of which provides pretty much all the information you need to know: “Sunset Park clinic will no longer offer abortions, instead only outpatient surgical care: Protesters drove away doctors and patients, says clinic owner”:
A Sunset Park abortion clinic has shut down after Catholic protesters drove away doctors and patients, according to the owner of the clinic.
The Ambulatory Specialty Surgery Center of Brooklyn on 43rd St., closed earlier this month and will reopen in October as a new medical center providing outpatient surgeries, but not abortion.
Catholic leaders claimed the clinic’s closure after 22 years as a victory for their anti-abortion effort. Abortion advocates said they had never heard of a clinic in the city closing under pressure from protesters….
Lazar said the clinic tried to provide both abortions and other types of procedures, but doctors and patients refused to cross the throngs of religious protesters who tried to convince them not to go in….
The new clinic – slated to open as the New York Center for Specialty Surgery under the direction of a California-based medical firm – is undergoing renovations.
So far as many as 20 doctors have expressed interest in working at the new clinic – a stark difference from as recently as a month ago when Lazar struggled to find doctors willing to work there.
Monsignor Philip Reilly – leader of the group the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants – said he has gone to the center every week since it first opened to protest the abortions.
Reilly said both he and local Catholics were so happy, a celebration mass was held on Saturday at St. Michael’s Church on the same block as the clinic….
Julie Kashner, president of the Brooklyn and Queens chapter of the National Organization for Women… added there are others dealing with the same problem. NOW has planned a rally in support of another medical center offering abortions in Jamaica, Queens also struggling to find doctors and patients.
This clinic was apparently a very big, deadly fish. According to The Tablet:
“This was the oldest and largest abortion clinic in New York City and for many years, in the United States,” said Msgr. Reilly. “I believe more than a quarter of a million unborn children lost their lives there.”

This just shows the power of a peaceful, prayerful presence outside these clinics. God be praised!

Congratulations to all who prayed there, especially Msgr. Reilly for faithfully praying on the site for so many many years. Blessings and Peace, Pr. Curt

Well Steve, we will continue to close down the abortion industry clinic by clinic until there are no more clinics left to kill children and hurt women.
I wonder how many pedophiles that clinic protected? We already know PP is willing to cover up rape and send little girls back to their pedophile rapists. I’m sure other clinics do it as well.

I’m skeptical,
WHAT “other kinds of surgical procedures”?
If the HACKS (literally) that work at abortion clinics (and call themselves “doctors”) are any indication, I wouldn’t trust any of them to perform ANY “surgical procedure”.
Could this be a ruse just to fool the protesters?
“Oh, we’re doing ‘other’ surgical procedures..but NOT abortions”.
Like I said- I’m skeptical…I don’t trust anyone in the abortion industry.
If it IS true- TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

Steve, May the good Lord heal your poisoned and broken heart. And may those who failed to protect you be brought to their knees in prayer and confession and may you receive whatever justice is due to you.

Translation:
The building has to be brought up to surgical clinic standards now that it is no longer performing abortions. As abortion providers are given a pass on meeting the usual health and safety standards other surgery centers must meet because no one is worried about the health and safety of abortion patients.

Sydney, that’s the spirit. Defend the Church by accusing the clinic of protecting pedophiles. Still doesn’t absolve the Catholic Church of its vile.
Curt, I don’t need your mumbo jumbo. You’re as bad as the Mormons who pray for Holocaust victims. But, free speech covers you, I suppose.

Ok, I need to vent to my fellow prolifers…
I work on the trauma unit at a hospital. I have seen many teen girls come in with DVT’s & PE’s (blood clots in legs and lungs) due to oral contraceptive pills—you know the same ones that our government mandates all employers purchase for women’s “health”. But, now I have a 17yro beautiful young lady who got the morning after pill (now provided over the counter in case you didn’t hear that wonderful “accomplishment” by PP) and has now had a severe stroke where she most likely will be extremely mentally altered if she survives.
Some days I just have to SCREAM because I can’t stand how young women are exploited under the false promises of “reproductive choice” & “taking control over their bodies”—this young girl is breathing through a vent and wearing a diaper, is this “control” over her body? Teens are being lied to about the dangers and consequences and the American public is being billed for these lies under the assurance that its for “women’s health”.
I sincerely doubt anyone from Planned Parenthood will be coming in to visit this young girl in the ICU after their stellar advice has landed her with the threat of impending brain death. SHAME on them, and Shame on all of us for not shouting louder to drown out their lies that these impressionable teens are hearing.

Um, the exact same logic could apply to you. Defend abortion clinics by accusing the priests of protecting pedophiles.
Some priests (and some teachers and coaches and parents) cover up child abuse. ALL abortion clinics committ child abuse by killing fetuses, in addition to some of the clinics that cover up the child abuse of the mothers on top of it.

I read a story recently about a teenage girl who won a lawsuit: her abusive father took her to a clinic to abort his child, she told the clinic employees and oh yes they did send her home with him and nothing was done. Brave girl didn’t give up and fought against them all. Is it ok to impregnate underage girls at home but not ok to commit crimes against teen boys? Hypocrisy thy name is pro-abortion. There is no reason we can’t protect ALL children, from conception to graduation!

Sometimes, when I pray in front of our local abortion mill, someone comes by claiming that I’m not helping anyone or that prayer does nothing. When that happens, I like to remember events such as this one and think to myself, “You really have no idea.”
Additionally, to be honest, I must confess that I laugh a little inside at the contrast between the authority they claim and the depth of their unpreparedness. Also, it reminds me of Madam Schultz’s claim, after the DNC “vote” to reinsert those references to God and Israel into the party platform, that there “was no discord.”
Ridiculous.
I sometimes wonder, though, if they actually do see the threat we pose to the culture of death and are trying to stop us more subtly.

SM, I don’t defend any child molestations.
The Catholic Church protected thousands.
If the clinic protected any, it is wrong.

Great news! Steve: some priests is not the same as the whole Catholic Church; great way to avoid addressing the topic of this post, though.
