Wendy Davis greeted by “Abortion Barbie” posters ahead of Hollywood fundraiser
From Huffington Post, this afternoon:
Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis received a hostile greeting in Los Angeles Thursday morning, when life-sized posters depicting her as “Abortion Barbie” began popping up throughout the city ahead of her fundraiser there.
The posters say “Hollywood welcomes Abortion Barbie Wendy Davis,” and they show Davis’ face on a mostly-naked barbie doll with a plastic baby in her belly. Conservative pundit Erick Erickson nicknamed Davis “Abortion Barbie” earlier this year because when she was a state senator, she stood on her feet and spoke for 11 hours straight to filibuster a draconian package of anti-abortion bills.
Davis’ campaign told The Huffington Post that it spotted at least five of the posters in different outdoor places around the city, including one on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles.
Davis is in town for a Hollywood fundraiser tonight, according Breitbart.com:
Hollywood superstars J.J. Abrams, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg are hosting the soiree, according to ABC News. The event, which will reportedly be held on the roof of Abram’s production company Bad Robot, costs guests $1,000 at the door.
The Dallas Morning News reported that a guests’ status at the event depends on how much he or she donates to Davis’ cause. A $10,000 contribution allows a party-goer to become a co-host; a $25,000 donation constitutes host status.
Turns out the poster’s funder is Texas conservative Kathryn Stuard.
EMILY’s List, a PAC that only supports pro-abortion Democrat women, is up in arms, calling this “one of the most offensive, disgusting, sexist posters that I’ve ever seen,” in an email alert.
I happen to love it. No justice, no peace, and it draws more attention to the late-term abortion queen of the Lone Star State.
But maybe I’m wrong. What do you think?

Abortion is offensive, disgusting and sexist.
Sex selection abortion anyone?
Deal with it proaborts.

I love the concept, but the execution is weird for me. Still better than nothing.

Abortion is neither offensive or disgusting. As for sexist, that would be the anti-choice power brokers.
The posters will please some of the choir and bemuse everyone else.

Is the scissors above the black baby a symbol of Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s killings? Or, am I looking at the Wendy Davis cartoon barbie poster all wrong.

I have to be careful sometimes when I channel my inner Jonathon Edwards that I don’t come across too harsh.
The truth is, God is holy and just, and His Son paid a horrendous price for our sin. And if we don’t humble ourselves in brokenness and repentance and turn from our wicked ways, we will not be saved but will condemned for eternity.
Jn 3.16, everyone knows it. And to believe on Him means to become His follower, His disciple.
There’s no better way to live.

I’m not a fan of the posters. I feel that it makes the act of abortion something to be treated as a joke or a punch line, setting up a ‘we sure got you!’ moment. But anything that trivializes murder is not a laughing matter. There are ways to disagree with Wendy Davis and those that share her views using logic, compassion, love, forgiveness – I’d even beg if that is what it takes. But humor has no place in this debate.

CT…I agree with what you said. I love the idea…but the execution here looks cheap and gimmicky and..weird. not sure it is gonna sway anyone away from her.

Don’t want to be on an abortion poster?
Choose not to support abortion.

The posters are weird. California likes weird stuff… so maybe this is appropriate there.
I don’t know what this is supposed to accomplish. Did Wendy see the posters, and did this encourage her to repent?
Did the Hollywood supporters of Abortion Barbie see the posters, and give them pause to reconsider? This is probably the real purpose of these posters… and I hope it works.
I don’t know. If this was just a self-indulgence on the part of some pro-life activists…. We can do better than this.

What we have been doing the last 40 plus years has not worked. Time to shake it up a bit, especially in Hollywood.
The poster does not show a “blob of cells” in Abortion Barbie’s tummy but gives a face to abortion.
If we can do better than this, we should be doing it.

I was going to say… the poster seems to stoop to their level. And I think we ought always to aim for the high road.
But then Del’s comment caught me – about California liking weird stuff. Not all of us. And that’s when I realized that even if I’m in California, I am not the target audience of this poster. So maybe it communicates to it’s audience better than I might imagine? Is it wrong to wonder if there are some people who simply won’t ever wander near to the high road to see what’s going on there?

The posters are great. The people who think they are weird are wimps.

No amount of money, from Los Angles or elsewhere, is going to overcome Wendy’s terrible polling in the Texas gubernatorial race. I hope more people choose to waste their pro-abortion dollars on her doomed campaign.
I think that the Barbie posters are more an effort to make fun of and characterize Wendy herself…than a serious consideration of abortion issues. She is a plastic doll and a puppet of the politically correct culture of sterility.
Somebody paint a red mustache on her…please.

People are wimps for having a different opinion than you, Jasper?

Republicans support aborting children with guns. Children are dying from gun violence at twice the rate they are from cancer. CHECK IT OUT!!!!

Hey Jasper…attack IDEAS not commenters. Right? I’m hardly a wimp. I stand in front of my local clinic every week while people spit and scream at me. I am not afraid to be confrontational. I just think these posters look like a 10 year old put them together with glue sticks at home. They look cheap.

Well Carol 10000 times more children die from abortion than gun violence. LOOK IT UP!!!! Stay on topic.

I don’t believe it trivializes or tries to use humor. It’s just an edgier approach (like the other side takes to things).

Hey Carol, is dying from gun violence legal? Are there non-profit organizations dedicated to promoting safe and legal deaths via gun? Are children provided access to guns by the state without their parent’s knowledge? Does the state pay for the bullets if you can’t afford them? Is gun violence required by the state to be in your health insurance plan? When this situation develops let me know I will be the first to join you in opposition.

Carol – about 500 children die in the US from guns each year. About 2500 die from cancer. And as Sydney pointed out, about 1 MILLION die from abortion each year. Get your facts straight and leave your lies out of it.

@Tommy R – Hmm . . . I’m not so sure. Who would have thought that a community organizer with the lightest resume in decades would be elected TWICE as leader of the free world? You never know . . .

The same people that make so many children’s movies are so supportive of aborting children before birth.
Myopic.

Kel I agree. I rarely see movies anymore and watch little television because I am so sick of Hollywood and their pro death mindset.

True, but he didn’t win Texas either time.

Lisa, You would have had to vote both disgusting and sexist.
I would be interested in hearing the reasoning behind your vote.
The poster kinda reminds me of a story a friend once told me. When she was a child, her grandparents owned a convenience store which her mom managed. A local young lady who was known to be a bit rough around the edges stole from the store. She drove off before she could be confronted.
The manager called the young lady and she said she would stop back and pay for the items. She didn’t. The manager then sent a cordial letter reminding her that she said she would pay. This didn’t work either. The manager then tracked her down, used some foul language and threatened to get police involved. The girl paid up.
Sometimes I think we need to use language they understand.

Phillymiss,
Yeah, I was a little cocky…a little taunting…there wasn’t I. I must have been inspired by the spirit of the poster.
I thought a while back the same thing…my God what if she won!?! But then I looked at the numbers and relaxed. As long as Abbott doesn’t stumble, or get caught in a scandal, or just go all wobbly on us…He is, for all practical purposes, running unopposed. Which is par for the course in Texas.

Carol Mulrooney, this is a blatant lie – a common tactic of Leftists. I am ashamed of you. I hope you have enough conscience to be ashamed of yourself.

I will never be able to think of J.J. Abrams, Jeffrey Katzenberg or Steven Spielberg the same way again – especially Spielberg. He has lost my respect, and I will make sure I do not patronize another movie he produces.

Wow. Really? When was that added to their platform?
I’ll turn this around, Carol. If abortions were performed with guns, would you finally oppose abortions? I mean, since you care most about the implement that is used to kill somebody.
