VA pro-aborts take a stab at selling those wildly unpopular “Choose Choice” license plates
The Associated Press reported February 8 about a dispute in the VA legislature over the approval of a pro-abort specialty license plate to counter a pro-life plate….
Pro-life politicians are concerned proceeds would go to VA’s 8 Planned Parenthoods.
I say, let it happen. If pro-aborts are willing to pay an extra $15 for their specialty plate, let their $ be forwarded to PP. Pro-life proceeds are currently forwarded to pro-life efforts. Fair’s fair. It isn’t taxpayer funding.
Pro-abort strategy until now has been to try to obstruct pro-life specialty plates. But with our sales are out of hand, and several courts upholding their constitutionality, the other side has decided they can’t beat us and must join us.
To date 23 states have approved pro-life plates, and over half a million are on US roads.
The reason, of course, pro-aborts preferred to fight rather than join was because they didn’t want to compete. They were correctly afraid pro-life plate buyers would drive circles around pro-death plate buyers. Here are a couple laugh lines from the AP story:
Those on the other side of the debate have yet to mount a coordinated response.
Even in states where the plate is offered, it hasn’t sold well, though at least 400 people have signed up to buy the pro-choice plates in VA.
Hawaii was first with a “Respect Choice” decal for plates in 2003, but lack of interest is threatening to halt its availability.
A “Pro-family, Pro-choice” plate is available in MT, and PA has a Planned Parenthood labeled plate. However, only 22 of those are active.
Kent Willis, executive director of the ACLU of VA, said… “If the opposite were occurring – a pro-choice plate having passed and an anti-choice plate being considered – we would make the same legal argument in favor of the anti-choice plate,” he said.
Sure, Kent.
NRO’s The Corner caught a slight omission in the AP story:
Amusingly, the AP story describes the problem follows: “VA’s proposed plate would generate money for the state’s 8 PP health centers, which provide free pregnancy tests, contraception, gynecological exams, cancer screenings and other services for about 30k people each year.” “Other services,” huh? Like what? Tax planning? Auto repairs?

You will rarely catch me defending the ACLU, but I do give them credit for being one generally pro-abort group that does not make it their end all.
Example, a pro-woman group would happily cover up a story about how abortion hurts women, at the risk of defending abortion.
ACLU, on the other hand, I understand will in some cases join a pro-lifer. Not nearly all cases, mind you, but it’s been my general impression that on freedom of speech issues we’re not “always” on opposite ends of the table.
Trust Women To Kill Their Own Children.
Do Not Disagree With The Choice of Women Killing Their Own Children.
Well can you give me one instance that ACLU defended a pro life position. I am really interested. In TN they joined PP to go to court
and to take away informed consent, waiting periods following informed consent and that late term abortions had to be done in hospitals due to the increased risk to women. If an abortion mill is shut down due to not being licensed inspected and regulated, they go to court and have them up and running by the end of business.
trust women? you mean the women who are coerced into abortions by an abusive boyfriend or parent? Or the women who have 7 abortions? Which women are they referring to? The ones being coerced (with threats and put downs) are NOT making that “choice”.
Another sneaky way for Pro Aborts to get $ to kill unborn babies.
At least pregnancy help centers have parenting classes, post abortion counseling, FREE maternity clothes, free baby clothes and other supplies, and FREE Ultrasounds (Well, most have ultrasounds).
Do these other “Health centers” provide any information on nutrition or healthy relationships? Or are their other “services”: abortion?
I think the others services are Manicures, Pedicures, and Hair Styling
Trust women…you mean women like Michelle Duggar? Respect choice? You mean the CHOICE of Michelle Duggar to have 19 children? You mean Pam Tebow who chose to continue a pregnancy that could have harmed or killed her? Hmmmm….not living up to their plates, I see.
I live in PA. I have NEVER seen a Planned Parenthood plate. Even if I was pro-choice…that big Planned Parenthood logo is SO UGLY and OUTDATED. ICK. Its creepy…like 70’s porn. YUCK.
Alex, are you saying that pro-life groups are not pro-woman? I would say that it’s the opposite. I fully believe that abortion is anti-woman, and I know I’m not the only one who thinks that. For example, Feminists for Life, New Wave Femmes for Life, ProWomanProLife, Feminists Choosing Life of New York, and the Sisters of Life (an order of Catholic nuns whose work is mainly for the pro-life movement).
Furthermore, abortion hurts women. It causes breast cancer, depression, Post Abortion Stress Syndrome, uterine lacerations, sterility, and many other illnesses and injuries. Women regret abortions. Abortion is chosen for women, not by women. 64% of abortions are forced upon women. 80% were never told they had any other choice. 95% say that their boyfriend or husband had something to do with the decision. Does any of this sound “pro-woman” to you?
As Feminists for Life president Serrin Foster says, abortion is a sign that society has failed women, and women deserve better than abortion.
Therefore, please refrain from calling pro-aborts “pro-woman” groups, because while they claim to be so, they’re not at all. It’s offensive to those of us who are TRUE feminists.
As for these license plates, they’re fighting to stop pro-lifers from having license plates because we want proceeds to go to crisis pregnancy centers, now they’re complaining about wanting their own license plates that will provide (even more) money to Planned Parenthood? Then it’s time for them to drop the suits against us in Illinois, Arizona, California, Missouri, New York, New Jersey, and everywhere else that they’ve denied us the right to have our Choose Life license plates, if they want their license plates! You’ve got to give to get, or it’s not fair! Why is the ACLU fighting for pro-choice in this case, but not for the pro-life side in other states where our plates are denied?
Absolute hypocrites.
Furthermore, if they really trusted women, they wouldn’t force abortion down our throats. Abortionists and pro-choicers always fight against the right for women to see their ultrasounds before getting an abortion, and against the right for full disclosure about the illnesses and complications caused by abortion. If they trust women so much, they would provide us with the information we need to make an informed decision about abortion, instead of blind-siding us into killing children. Plus, it tells people that we pro-lifers don’t respect women because we don’t respect the “choice” of abortion. Therefore, I think their slogan is misleading, and it’s another reason I would fight them. If they want to use a slogan, it shouldn’t be misleading like this, otherwise it’s false advertising.
Jill,
You’re right. Fair is fair.
I just don’t see millions of women getting all starry-eyed over the prospect of suction cannulas and clamps.
The militant minority will sport the plates. I think that if any of us sees one, it should be regarded as an invitation to prayer for the owner.
I notice:
None of the plates say what is chosen.
None of the plates portray what is chosen (at least one portrayed the opposite, a woman with a healthy toddler. Hmmm… that’s odd. Pro-family. A family composed of a woman and child only. Wait, aren’t children without interested fathers the ones targeted for abortion?)
If they think it should be an option, if it’s so important to have it and everyone is in favor of it–why can’t they even say it, much less show it?
The most potent pro-life argument/picture I have seen in a long time was the video of Michelle Duggar’s C section showing her 24 week baby kicking and waving her arms as she entered life at an age at which many fetus’s (uh babies) are aborted. Now if there was a way to put that picture on a license plate I would probably buy it!
People should have the right to say whatever they want on licence plates, whether they pro or anti-choice. It’s free speech. No one has the right to deny them put their opinions there.
Agreed, RB. The proaborts are not denied this right. As you can see with your own two eyes, they have their ugly plates already. The PROBLEM is that they don’t sell. In PA they sold only 22!! LOL Hilarious!!!
Got cher plate yet, RB??
Oh and I noticed that Mary wrote some steps out. Applies to some trolls around here I think.
1. Shoot your mouth off.
2. Get the facts.
Hi Carla,
How are ya?
I love the fact that the plates are not selling. That’s the free market speaking. Only the evil beasts who know what the choice is all about sport these plates.
The women who have the abortions usually are in a panic and are being coerced by all in their lives. It’s anything but choice.
God Bless,
Gerry
I am well!! And you?
When the prolife plates raise MILLIONS of funds for pregnancy care centers in the states that have them and the proaborts can’t even scare up enough sales…I have to laugh. Peddle death plates all you want, people aren’t buying.
Sorry, Amy – I didn’t read the posts before posting – sometimes I just gotta spit out my opinion, LOL. Didn’t mean to reiterate what you already stated so well.
The pro -choice plates may not be selling because no one on the pro-choice side is that motivated. Status quo is pretty good. No need to make a statement or try to get anything changed. It’s the pro-life group that is working for change, and therefore would be more motivated to buy the plate. As someone who is pro-choice, I can’t see a reason to get such a plate right now. I’d rather get one that says “Seattle Mariners.” We’ve got the law the way we want it. So, I wouldn’t view the lack of sales as evidence of lack of support, just lack of concern.
Like the lack of concern over the Tebow ad, Hal?
Hal,
Maybe the pro-aborts need some snappy slogans on the plates.
Some suggestions:
Abortion and You-Perfect Together
Choose Death-Life Sucks
Exercise Choice-Choose Death
Tim Tebow-Wrong Choice
No Handicapped-The Right Choice
Choice and Eugenics-Civic Virtues
Margaret Sanger-Death’s Darling
Pam Tebow-Our Nemesis
Honestly Hal, reveling in choice isn’t very masculine. Lying to women, hiding the sonogram image, railing against CPC’s, and butchering babies is as low as a man can sink.
Man up and come to next year’s March in DC. I can get you a front row spot at the Supreme Court steps to hear the agonizing stories of scores of women who were told, “It’s just a clump of cells” while the abortionist watched the babies thrash about, trying to escape their fate.
I mean it. Stand with me for 2.5 hours and listen to these women share their horror stories and see if you are not persuaded that there is more here than you care to admit.
You come with me, and I’ll buy a steak dinner afterward. (We’ll need one!)
I will stand up and speak if you and Hal are there!! Meet you both at The Dubliner. :)
Carla,
Unless I’m hospitalized, I’ll be there! I hope Hal has the stomach for the experience-such raw pain. You moms are my inspiration, walking parables. I’ve never met a woman in Silent No More who wasn’t brimming with love, peace and understanding.
God Bless,
Gerry
I do enjoy a good steak dinner. But, I need to point out, I have never railed against CPC’s. In fact, I sent Carla a small donation for one last year.
I can’t promise I’ll be there, but it’s something worth considering. When do you guys do your march?
You did and I love you for it, Hal!!
You are kidding right? January 22, 1973 Roe V Wade and Doe V Bolton were handed down. Ringing any bells for ya? We march on Jan. 22. But then again most main stream media decided to ignore the hundreds of thousands marching in D.C. that day.
Yes, I was kidding. A comment on the fact the march is mostly ignored each year in the media.
Anyway, I doubt I can go 4000 miles just on a dare from Professor Nadal, but who knows. Maybe I’ll be in the vicinity.
Hal,
No dare. It’s a sincere offer. I’d be honored to have you there. I think you would find it illuminating. And the dinner offer is most sincere as well.
I’m surprised that they can have one mentioning “Planned Parenthood” since it is a BUSINESS. Does this mean we will have license plates saying, “Shop Wal-Mart” or “Eat at Joe’s”? In Indiana you have to have a certain number of people commit to buying a specialty plate before they will issue it.
I think the Wal-Mart plate would have a lot more takers than PP’s.
