TV coverage of Planned Parenthood sex trafficking sting
I reported yesterday that Planned Parenthood was too afraid declined to go on CNN with Lila Rose. Here are the back-to-back interviews. In the first one, Lila rocks…
Here is the response by PP’s VP for Communications Stuart Shear, who attempted to divert the topic back to Lila, unsuccessfully I might add. What else could he do?
The interesting thing to me about all this is that PP is using a male spokesperson. This says to me this scandal is too big to trust being handled by anyone other than who they consider to be the best and unflappable. PP is forgoing up all pretenses to save its skin…
And here’s an interview by Fox’s Megyn Kelly, also yesterday, on the topic…

I love how pro-aborts like to trot out that (probably false) statistic about 77% of pro-life leaders being men. But when an intrepid young woman gives them trouble, what does PP do? They bring in the big, strong man to handle things for them. So much for abortion empowering women. PRO-LIFE EMPOWERS WOMEN.
CNN is shameless and pathetic for giving this self-promoting huckster a platform to disseminate her smears with. She certainly fits right in at Fox though.
This is the headline from my local paper “Anti-abortion group video targets Virginia clinic”
They bring in the big, strong man to handle things for them.
Clarice,
I wonder if PP isn’t throwing Schear under the bus, so to speak. Watch him repeatedly assert that this is not systemic, right before Live Action put out another video. I think they’re taking stock and determining who can take the blunt of the anger over this. I wonder if Schear didn’t draw the short straw.
Hey I tried to get on Lila’s website and it’s down. Anyone else having this problem? Did someone hack it?
Obama Administration Covering Up Abortion Statistics

The Center for Disease Control press office has confirmed to Red State’s Erik Erickson that the Obama Administration has stopped, for the first time in 40 years, the publishing of the CDC’s annual Abortion Surveillance Report and that there are no plans to publish the report any time soon.
As Erickson points out in his piece, whatever side of the abortion debate you may be on, this is an issue of government transparency. President Obama has said on numerous occasions that he believes transparency in government in important, yet it seems the President only views government transparency as important when it is convenient for his administration.
From RedState:
CNN knows its bottom line and its audience. They’ve figured out the youth and young adults of this country are pro-life, and playing it up, for the $$$. It talks, and everything else walks.
They’ve figured out the youth and young adults of this country are pro-life, and playing it up, for the $$$. It talks, and everything else walks.
I went to school with lots of good Catholic school girls who were saving their virginity for Jesus and the “Blessed Mother.” They were really “pro-life” until they faced a “situation” and their views changed. Catholic youth can be indoctrinated – but when reality bites, things change. And BTW, that was back in the pre-Roe days when “situations” could be dealt with if one had the right connections and the right amount of cash. Does that surprise you? And check the polls regarding “pro-life” – the majority of the country still supports abortion – but with restrictions.
Don’t you love how the PP communications director kept saying the employee was “terminated”. That term certainly has a very different meaning within the PP organization!
“CNN knows its bottom line and its audience. ”
Have you seen their ratings lately? CNN is tanking. I suspect things like this are part of the reason. No matter how many right-wing ideologues they give free publicity to, they will never win over the kind of people who get their “news” from Fox.
CC, pro-aborts aren’t born, they’re bred in our institutions of higher learning, where old hags from the 60’s call themselves “professors” and teach their young students that religion is evil, sleeping around is fun, do whatever you want and to hell with the consequences.
The 60’s leftovers are defiant and refuse to accept or even acknowledge their sinful behavior – that’s why they hate God and religion, since religion teaches that human beings are sinful beings who need God to save us. They feel that they should answer to no one for anything they have done. And so they either despise God outright or they arbitrarily create new religions which change God into whatever they want Him to be.
And one thing that these people love doing is corrupting the youth. They don’t do it out of malice; they do it to justify themselves. You see, if they can create another generation of irresponsible, drug addled sloths just like the 60’s hippie generation, then they will feel that what they did wasn’t bad at all – it’s just the way things are. Kind of like how you argue that people will become pro-abortion as soon as they face a crisis pregnancy.
College students can be easily indoctrinated, but when the Truth appears, the Truth which informs them that there’s a higher purpose in our lives than sex and drugs, they snap out of it. Sometimes it isn’t until they’re on their death beds, but they’ll get it. You will, too.
That’s right, joan. CNN will never win over the likes of me, you know, the kind of person who gets her news from Fox. Because I cannot be won over by left-wing ideologues who pay lip service to the truth and misrepresent the majority of people in this country who are not pro-socialism, not pro-liberalism, and certainly not pro-(the atrocity of)abortion. Btw, the free publicity CNN can give Lila Rose is dwarfed by what she can get from Fox. Or even YouTube.
Yeah, CC, and I know good Catholic girls who got unexpectedly pregnant and didn’t have abortions. One was pregnant through rape. Her baby, who was adopted by his great-aunt and uncle, is about four now. One of my friends from high school was conceived when her (Catholic) mother was both unmarried and severely anorexic, which means my friend had next to no nutrition for her first month in utero. What’s your point? Catholic girls are all pro-life until they get pregnant, and then they all have abortions? Well, no, they don’t. All the ones I know got pregnant after Roe v. Wade, too.
CNN spent years on the pro death side, which was why it WAS tanking. It’s now ranked second, not bad for a network that regularly preached death.
CC, if good Catholic girls were faced with a situation, then they weren’t good Catholic girls at all, just girls that decided to follow whatever popular was being preached at them at the time. If you believe this country supports abortion with restrictions, you are truly blind. Just look at the numbers at the March for Life and all the polls you summarily dismiss. Oh wait, they don’t suit your pro-death stance, never mind, move on, nothing to see here.
Guess what joan, I’m not a fan of Fox, but they do report the truth, no matter how you want to spin it your way. You can claim it all you want, but Fox doesn’t support your left-wing, kool aid drinking, pro-death stance, as much as you would like. The people who watch Fox are those who live mainstream lives, unlike what you would like to portray the network to be.
I have to say I think the CNN anchor treated Lila pretty well, and was actually harder on Shear. That poor guy didn’t have much to offer except, “It’s a conspiracy against us!” and other whiny, tired old lines. There’s no way for PP to spin this in their favor and they know it. Lila’s got ’em on the run. Go, Lila!
If that is the best PP has, I really feel sorry for them. I was embarrassed by his poor communications skills.
When exactly were the videos shot, and when exactly did PP report the sex trafficking? Did they catch wind of LA’s videos, so then they reported? Or did employees actually go to law enforcement immediately after their encounters with the “pimps”?
Come on joan 4:59PM
I have posted time and again how PP could put the kabosh to this whole ugly mess by presenting police documentation as to how they immediately reported these “pimps” to law enforcement. We know PP did its civic duty and reported but the police are plotting against PP and withholding this documentation. Lila is probably paying them off. Oh the plot thickens.
Clarice, My thoughts exactly. How interesting that the pro-choice movement is represented by an old man to represent “reproductive rights”. The prolife movement leader is a young, intelligent young woman. they can’t use the old line of pro-lifers don’t understand as their leaders are men.
CC, whatever. I grew up Catholic, believed it, strayed got pregnant in a VERY difficult situation and choose to have my child. I was asked to have an abortion. My son had the right to live his life too and he has value too. Last year I returned to the Catholic Church, and golly do I believe the value of ALL Its teachings.
Wow! A quick google search finds the press release announcing Schear as PP’s VP of Communications. It says that he has nearly 25 years of communications experience. So, he’s been at this since before Lila Rose was born and yet she is clearly the more poised and skilled communicator. Lila has the truth on her side!
Lila, don’t skirt around the issue – we all want to protect underage girls from being abused by PP – but the main issue of everyone here, and you too, and rightfully so, is to legally take down Planned Parenthood and to take them down real bad. I want that to happen for PP to be so exposed that the $$$ government funding will stop, their practices exposed, and their leaders off to jail. We need to get tougher with PP, because they are very powerful. Can you imagine a day when PP doesn’t exist? I know someone else might take their place – like happened with ACORN, but it’s a start to eneding Roe Vs Wade. All in all Lila is great!
Jhn-you summed it up beautifully.
CC–way to try and change the subject from the topic at hand to the Catholic Church. Good Catholics can make bad decisions just like anyone else, it doesn’t mean the teaching is wrong or flawed, it means the PERSON made a flawed/wrong decision. There’s a HUGE difference.
CC, don’t know if you noticed it, but down in the “cowards from the wasit up” thread, I pledged to put an extra dollar in the collection plate on Sunday for every anti-Catholic remark you make. So be careful, you are right on the edge.
CC,
Here’s one good Catholic girl who made some bad choices, ended up pregnant with a child she wasn’t ready for (but fortunately married to my love by then), and did not choose to turn to death as a solution. And FTR, I know quite a few faithful and unfaithful Catholic women who got pregnant young, some in a relationship, some out, and some with men who outright told them to “get it taken care of”, and all of whom chose LIFE.
Stick your head in the sand and enjoy, but, coming from a young adult, the YOUTH of our nation LOVES LIFE and is ready to CRUSH Planned Parenthood and other pro-death ideologues under the soles of our shoes! :)
And I believe that one day, you will rejoice over the fact! God is working in your life, CC :)
If that freak is the best face that PP has, then Lila has them on life support at this point.
Pray that Stuart Schear, whenever he opens his mouth against LA and against life, that like Baalam, he blesses LA and all the prolife efforts instead of cursing them.
May God make Stuart’s message sweet to our ears and garbled noise in the ears of Planned Parenthood and it’s advocates.
I pledged to put an extra dollar in the collection plate on Sunday for every anti-Catholic remark you make. So be careful, you are right on the edge
Good for you. Your church needs all the money it can get after having had to pay beaucoup bucks for the “sins of the fathers.” I just cut a $100 Check to Planned Parenthood which, btw, stands to benefit greatly in the event of my demise. As we have no children (proudly childless by choice thanks to “big pharma”) several organizations will do quite well by us.
As a result of lil Lila, PP is raising some serious cash.
And regarding a male being a PP spokesperson – the “pro-life” movement has, from the start, been dominated by males. The raison d’etre of the Roman church is to stop women from having abortion (and having access to contraception) and it’s the oldest men’s club in the world. When I left the church at the age of 12 it was because a rich man with a Roman collar denigrated women, from his pulpit, who planned their families. As the only child of a woman who proudly made a decision to limit her reproduction (not as easy in the 50’s), I thought “how dare this man pontificate about what I should do with my body.
And Planned Parenthood in RI – going strong. Abortion isn’t (much to the chagrin of Bishop Tobin) a big deal here in a state founded on freedom of conscience!
“When I left the church at the age of 12 it was because a rich man with a Roman collar denigrated women, from his pulpit, who planned their families. As the only child of a woman who proudly made a decision to limit her reproduction (not as easy in the 50?s), I thought “how dare this man pontificate about what I should do with my body.”
Wow. It is so obvious CC that you are still living and believing what your mom wanted you to. You had it all this figured out at 12? You left the church at 12 but did your mom stay on? You know what was in the priest’s bank account?
How sad that your mother still controls your thought processes and you’ve never learned to think for yourself.
Failure to Launch.
CC:
You’re very lucky to be alive with a mother like that.
Tragically, you ended up committing the same act of prenatal homicide that your mother did.
Do you really want a world where members of families, instead of loving and nurturing each other, wage ruthless biological war against each other?
Do you really want a world that resembles, not the “brotherhood of man”, but the cruelty and brutality of the Raptor Pit at Jurassic Park?
“As we have no children (proudly childless by choice thanks to “big pharma”)”
Tut tut, CC. You’re too modest. Don’t forget to include your turkey baster. So should we add William Sonoma to ‘big pharma’, or was that Pampered Chef?
And while you may be “proudly childless”, you shouldn’t overlook the fact that you are also in the throes of end-stage narcissism. It is an illness that even drove you to drive your sister-in-law to kill her child. Misery loves company, eh, Artemiserable?
I hope a childless life was worth it for you. As for my Church, your twisted perception of its raison d’etre is a function of your barren, loveless heart. People who haven’t enough love to lavish on a child often see the exhortation for couples to accept children willingly and lovingly from God as a manipulation into the loss of freedom. What the narcissist cannot see is the paradox that being tied to a life of sacrifice is the only way to achieve authentic freedom. Going so far as to kill your own child, aid in the death of your sibling’s child and then glorying in it is truly end-stage narcissism.
It’s also the experience of having hit rock bottom as a human, and the time when many seek reconciliation with God: the true raison d’etre for the Church.
I’m glad that you have sent PP $100. In fact, I hope that all like-minded narcissists do the same. It will help us demonstrate to Congress that PP doesn’t need Title X $$, as it is capable of raising it on their own. The polite thing to do, however, would be to send Lila 10% as a modest stipend for having aided in their latest fundraising campaign.
CC
What a shame, I’ve seen many like you alone at the end of life, spouse passed away maybe years ago, no children, no neices or nephews, noone but the staff hired to change their soiled brief, change the bed sheets, bring in a meal three times a day. Maybe if you’re lucky you’ll get to play bingo once a week if the staff happens by to pick you up in time. I wonder if you’ll still be thanking “Big Pharma” then. Chin up, maybe a rep from PP will continue to visit you and be your friend once a month as long as you have money left in your pocket.
“What a shame, I’ve seen many like you alone at the end of life, spouse passed away maybe years ago, no children…”
And there are many single folks in nursing homes along with those whose children live in distant locales and can’t visit. Happy as a clam. Besides, many of those folks wouldn’t even recognize their children. They live in their own private Idaho’s. My mother is in a lovely nursing home in San Francisco. She thinks that she’s at a beach where she spent her summers and is “happy as a clam” (of which there were many at that beach!) And, hopefully, by the time that I reach end stage, the law will allow physician assisted suicide which I will take advantage of. If taxpayers shouldn’t pay for abortions, they shouldn’t pay for people who don’t want to be here. Thankfully, I have a “living will” which will prevent those with the Roman collars from trying to keep me here. But that’s a whole other discussion.
And Dr. Nadal – if you want to see a narcissist, you might look in a mirror! BTW, the “killing” (LOL) that I gladly participated in was not by sibling but an in-law who has so moved on with her life and never looked back. Not all 45 year old women are thrilled to carrying the fetus of some loser boyfriend – after having 4 kids and several grandkids. The beautiful thing about legal abortion is that women have a choice. Bottom line.
Do you really want a world that resembles, not the “brotherhood of man”, but the cruelty and brutality of the Raptor Pit at Jurassic Park?
How bout the overpopulated world of Soylent Green. The directors of the film were pretty savvy in setting some of the scenes in an abandoned Catholic church. And you want to talk brutality. How bout the violent barrios of overpopulated Catholic countries where children are thrown out on the streets because their parents can no longer afford them. Meanwhile, the local clergy live like kings. While we may not agree with China’s one child policy, they knew they were facing a crisis and now their country is rapidly advancing to the point where there are fewer slums and a transportation insfrastructure that is far ahead of the US.
Oh, and I forgot. Denmark is one of the most liberal countries in the world and the least religious. They’re also the happiest. Other countries with legal abortion are doing quite well – think Canada. No Jurassic park there – those are the countries with too many people.
Wow. It is so obvious CC that you are still living and believing what your mom wanted you to. You had it all this figured out at 12? You left the church at 12 but did your mom stay on? You know what was in the priest’s bank account?
The priests in my parish lived like royalty as there was a very wealthy Catholic money base. The priests had black Cadillacs while the nuns were forbidden to drive. And yes, I had it figured out. As an only child, I and my fellow only children, had to deal with the scorn of nuns who elevated those wealthy Irish Catholic families with a multitude of children. I had to listen to priests who said that those families, with women who reproduced long after they should have (lots of birth defects on the later births) , were special because they followed the wishes of the lord. I had to listen to clergy who said that women who stayed home to have babies were better than those women (my mother) who were venturing into the workplace. My mother did not want to be a stay at home mother. She wanted a career and the extra money that went with it (some of which she wasted on my prep school). But my mother was just as good as those women who had many children because their faith dictated it – a number of whom ended up with severe mental health and substance abuse issues.
Yes, at 12 I listened to the “monsignor” rail about the evils of the new RI Planned Parenthood and how women who took birth control were sinners. I left that day and never looked back. Funny, many of those who came from the big families, had small families and careers. Many of them are staunchly pro-choice and members of a church not affiliated with Rome.
@CC a better model for your dystopian future would be “Children of Men”; aging, loveless, pointless … ultimately bereft of meaning and purpose. Empty worlds, losing memories of any beauty.
Hardly a compelling vision.
Any question why younger folks are innately drawn towards the cause of life?
Yes, at 12 I listened to the “monsignor” rail about the evils of the new RI Planned Parenthood and how women who took birth control were sinners. I left that day and never looked back
Interesting. Were you sexually active at 12 years of age? Had you heard your mother discussing her own birth control/abortions by that age? What was it that caused you to think “birth control = good?” Were you taught that to call anyone a “sinner” was wrong or hateful?
Too bad for you, CC. You’re so ignorant.
You see the Church through the eyes of a child and wonder why it doesn’t address adult realities. It does, but your development is arrested. That’s not a reflection on the Church, but a reflection on you.
Priests who have expensive cars have them because wealthy parishioners purchase them for the clergy, and contrary to your shallow understanding, the nuns wrote their own Rule and Charter. They lived as they did because that is how the women in the community chose to live. Women religious determine their own lifestyle and their own fate. If they’re miserable, that comes from within the community.
Each community has its own rule.
As for the nuns scorning you, I simply don’t believe that to have been objective reality. Children are little narcissists by nature, with the world revolving about themselves, or so they think. It sounds like you personalized a great deal of the cultural war going on at the time, which is why you left at age 12.
In retrospect, I would say that the clergy were pretty dead-on accurate about the whole mess. Contraception and abortion were held out as the feminist eucharistic rite of initiation. Family was held out to be oppressive and women were told the lie that true self-actualization resided in career, not family.
IVF for older women who swallowed those lies (along with countless little hormone pills) is a billion dollar industry as desperate women seek a scientific elixer to turn back the ravages of the great lie and the corrosive sands of time on reproductive function.
53 million dead babies later and all you can do is piss and moo about those evil priests and nuns who led lives of heroic self-sacrifice and ministered to the needs of an immigrant church in a foreign land. At least we can agree on this much;
I believe that your mother was just as good as any woman who had thirteen children. She worked and lavished love on her daughter, her only child. That counts for quite a bit with me. The great tragedy is that her daughter never developed the capacity to live as her mother, and actually killed her child by her own hand.
If you live to be 100, CC, you’ll never be able to fill one of those priest’s or nun’s shoes, nor your mother’s. They and your mom had a great deal in common.
At 4:29 into the Fox interview the PP supporter say’s “those videos were discredited.” I guess that is why people at PP are getting terminated like unwanted pregnancies. They just spew an andless litany of lies cause there is no way to defend their actions.
Thankfully, I have a “living will” which will prevent those with the Roman collars from trying to keep me here.
On the other hand, maybe you should reflect on the fact that “those with the Roman collars” (and don’t forget the men in long black dresses, too) will still fight for your rights even when society, and maybe your children/heirs, finds your life worthless and expendable. They won’t even take into account the fact that you’ve spent most of your life oppressing people you don’t value. To them your human dignity is not contingent on your beliefs, or whether you can go to the bathroom by yourself, or whether you’re good-looking, or smart, or young.
You may find that to be of some comfort when people are telling you you might as well kill yourself because they couldn’t be bothered to help you.
Jill,
Correct me if I’m wrong on this. Discerning how it is that PP determined that there might be a problem…
It seems that they have a screening mechanism in place to detect sting operations. So far in this sting, neither PP center called local or federal law enforcement authorities in response to the visit, but willingly offered every bit of helpful information to the pimp.
Thus, they have a national screening mechanism, not for prostitution of trafficking rings, but for Lila Rose.
When Lila becomes the precipitating factor for an FBI phone call, and not a visit from an international sex-trafficker, that tells us all we need to know.
good point Dr. Gerard
Life News (lifenews.com) has just broken the story that Lila Rose has released three new Virginia videos from PP’s in Roanoke, Charlottesville and Falls Church.
This is like the dam bursting.

notice – one of the full videos has sound rolling while the man is the bathroom. eww. just fast forward and not listen to that part. I guess Lila thought that the non-editing was better than get accused of altering the video. Oh – what people go thru for truth.
CC,
Well, that’s at least $4. I’m kind of losing track. It’s truly like a drug for you, isn’t it?
The reason you hate the Church and the pro-life movement is that you are ignorant about both. Your statement that the pro-life movement is dominated by men is laughable. Of course, there have always been priests and other men among the leaders, but there have always been just as many women – Nellie Gray, Judie Brown, Barbara Wilkie.
And today we have women – young women — who are out in front like Lila Rose, Marjorie Dannenfelser and yes Abby Johnson, who is converting to the Catholic Church (Sorry to disappoint you, but I don’t think you’ll find anyone from Opus Dei in her background).
Every time I turn on my Catholic TV station I find pro-life Catholic women engaged in the fight. You’re meeting many of them here on this site. They understand the Church and are proud to be with her. You really missed the boat. OK, just continue to be blind and deaf to the truth.
I don’t know if I can cancel out your gifts to Planned Parenthood, but I’ll do the best I can. (Maybe if everyone here agreed to donate a dollar . . .?)
And CC — because I don’t think anyone here has said this — I’m sorry if anyone in the Church every shamed you and your family. Everyone sins; anyone can be insenstive, and it’s not limited to Catholics (or even ex-Catholics like you). But to stew about it 50 years later and continue to let it poison your life and cloud your judgment – please do some thinking about that.
Yes, at 12 I listened to the “monsignor” rail about the evils of the new RI Planned Parenthood and how women who took birth control were sinners. I left that day and never looked back
And yet still He pulls at your soul, even though your trust to the decision your 12-year-old self made, trust to the image your 12-year-old self had. The Lord knows that you are precious and He calls to you. I know you aren’t tuning him out completely, but I pray for your ability to stop deflecting. Nightly.
The raison d’etre of the Roman church is to stop women from having abortion (and having access to contraception) and it’s the oldest men’s club in the world. When I left the church at the age of 12 it was because a rich man with a Roman collar denigrated women, from his pulpit, who planned their families. As the only child of a woman who proudly made a decision to limit her reproduction (not as easy in the 50?s), I thought “how dare this man pontificate about what I should do with my body
Look, I’m sorry your experience as a Catholic was bad. Truly, I am. It makes me very sad when I read stuff like that. But I get VERY tired of your personal rampage against the Church (whether the Catholic Church is a topic in the post or brought up by another poster) somehow it feels like a lot of your posts are rants against the RCC.
I’m a Cradle Catholic. I have NEVER felt demeaned by ANYONE in the Church. They aren’t trying to make slaves out of women (I know this by having learned a lot about the teachings on contraception and abortion, having taken Natural Family Planning, having parents who took the time to learn as much as they could about what the Church taught on those subjects). I have a lot of priest friends who treat me with respect, and with courtesy. None of them talks down to me and none of them act like I’m just a “baby maker”. They’ve encouraged me, prayed for me and with me.
I had 3 priests and a deacon at my wedding. All of them were extremely kind to me and every woman there.
Human beings are flawed but there ARE a lot of very nice, kind, prayerful, respectful priests out there.
I’m a Cradle Catholic of over 30 years. I never had this experience–and I know a lot of priests. The priests I know (which are quite a few) are very kind and respectful towards women. I don’t know of any priests forbidding nuns to drive. I know nuns that drive, too.
I haven’t known any priest or nuns that treated people who weren’t wealthy with any scorn just because of their fiancial status. My family wasn’t particularly rich, but they always treated us with respect and kindness.
None of the nuns who taught me in high school treated anyone better than another just because of fiancial status.
Thus, they have a national screening mechanism, not for prostitution of trafficking rings, but for Lila Rose.
Great point.
CC said, “Not all 45 year old women are thrilled to carrying the fetus of some loser boyfriend.”
Why would a 45 year old woman be thrilled to sleep with a loser boyfriend?
PP staff reported to their superiors, PP officials contacted the local prosecutor, sent a letter to the attorney general and called the FBI. Is this what we average citizens do?
Don’t we just call local law enforcement and let them handle the situation?
The local prosecutor is just that, not a police officer. He/she doesn’t apprehend criminals. They try and prosecute them with the evidence obtained by police investigation. The attorney general also does not go out and apprehend criminals.
Call the FBI? The rationale of all this notification is what?
Stuart, simply picking up the phone and calling the local police dept. was all your employees needed to do and there would be no problem now if they had.
Hi Eric,
Also, by the time a woman turns 45y/o, shouldn’t she have more maturity and a lot more sense?
One would think, especially at age 45. Can’t really use the “young and confused” defense for getting pregnant by a loser. Also, a 45 y/o getting pregnant by a loser boyfriend is not a good case study to make women sound empowered.
I went to school with lots of good Catholic school girls who were saving their virginity for Jesus and the “Blessed Mother.” They were really “pro-life” until they faced a “situation” and their views changed
I’m not Catholic, but I did go to a high school run by the Daughters of the Heart of Mary. There was one girl, it was rumored, who got pregnant and had an abortion, but back then girls (and guys) who “did it” were ostracized.
How things have changed!
None of the nuns who taught me in high school treated anyone better than another just because of fiancial status
You didn’t grow up, in the 50’s, in a wealthy Irish Catholic parish where the priests pandered to those whose donations kept them in Cadillacs.
How things have changed!
And that’s a good thing – or are you saying that girls who get pregnant and who don’t have abortions should be shamed?
Why would a 45 year old woman be thrilled to sleep with a loser boyfriend?
You don’t understand the dynamics of relationships, do you, Eric?
The Lord knows that you are precious and He calls to you. I know you aren’t tuning him out…
With all due respect, please. If you want to believe in “the Lord” fine – but I (and many others) don’t – and with just as much good reason as you have for your belief systems.
And Dr. Pieper
At the end of the day – Rome rules.
And as far as individual Catholics go, I know there are many who are well intentioned. What I, and my non-Catholic brethren, object to is how Rome seeks to impose its ideology on the rest of us. Bishops threaten to withhold communion to Catholic politicians who don’t vote according to “The Majesterium” which implies that Catholic politicians are beholden to the Vatican- a foreign country. In the 19th century, the Protestants spread fear that Rome would control the political process. That was a prejudice that now appears to be a reality.
Stuart,
The point is that nobody at the local level called law enforcement. Nobody.
Nobody copied a license plate, called police, offered the security camera footage. Nobody.
The screening mechanism was for a Live Action sting. THEN law enforcement was notified in a belated and disgustingly, foolishly ham-handed attempt at social respectability.
After the pimp was gone. Long gone.
Think for a moment about the PP response. They gave every bit of advice they could to the pimp on how to maintain a healthy stable of teen sex-slaves, never once calling local or federal law enforcement. Nobody thinks to themselves, “Gee, I’ll report this pimp to the National office of PP, but not local law enforcement because maybe he’ll show up in Kansas City, then Boise, then maybe Detroit…
Nope, they are in private who they are in the videos.
They are in the videos who they are in court when fighting parental notification and consent laws.
They’re predators who got caught on film giving professional courtesy to fellow predators.
You didn’t grow up, in the 50?s, in a wealthy Irish Catholic parish where the priests pandered to those whose donations kept them in Cadillacs.
Well let’s put aside the year (which you don’t know what year I grew up since I didn’t say–only said I’ve been a Catholic for over 30 years, which could mean anything).
And no, I didn’t have rich parishoners buying priests Cadillacs, but then again, that doesn’t mean I didn’t know wealthy people and/or wealthy Catholics.
Like I said, I’m sorry you had a bad experience, but that isn’t the doctorines of the Church and priests are human beings who have the capacity (like any other human being) to make bad choices, but it doesn’t mean the Catholic Church itself is bad. Jesus promises in Matthew (I believe it’s Matthew 16) that He will protect His Church from error.
PEOPLE make mistakes, but in matters of doctorine and faith, Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to protect it.
The Magesterium is the TEACHING part of the Catholic Church. A Politician who is Catholic has a responsibility as a Catholic to uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church like any other Catholic. Just because one’s in politics doesn’t erase one’s other responsibilities.
In the 19th century, the Protestants spread fear that Rome would control the political process. That was a prejudice that now appears to be a reality.
Yeah, just like how people were so afraid JFK because he was Catholic, but the pope wasn’t running America back then.
Most Catholic Politiicians (with a few exceptions) haven’t proven to be very faithful to their Catholic faith, so I think the fear is highly unfounded.
It’s not the Catholic Church’s position to overtake the USA and run it, it’s trying to lead it’s members according to Christ’s teachings. Unfortunately, people have a TON of misconceptions about that.
Hey – every Planned Parenthood has security cameras – I wonder if they tried to turn over the security video to local police. Not.
Too bad – PP is only trying to protect themselves from people who would cost them business … Too bad they did not try to protect the women and the minors in the sex trade. Utterly unbelievable.
You don’t understand the dynamics of relationships, do you, Eric?
I couldn’t agree more if the relationships to which you refer involve getting naked with someone before knowing if they are a loser or not. Nope, can’t say I understand that.
And as far as individual Catholics go, I know there are many who are well intentioned. What I, and my non-Catholic brethren, object to is how Rome seeks to impose its ideology on the rest of us.Bishops threaten to withhold communion to Catholic politicians who don’t vote according to “The Majesterium” which implies that Catholic politicians are beholden to the Vatican- a foreign country. In the 19th century, the Protestants spread fear that Rome would control the political process. That was a prejudice that now appears to be a reality.
CC, I’ve got some terrific examples of the Vatican imposing its ideology on people:
In 1962, Archbishop Rummel of New Orleans excommunicated those in his diocese who tried to block the integration of the Catholic schools. In fact, the Church was very much involved in the fight against racism. Gotta hate “the Vatican” for doing that! What a blow in the face to American freedom! We can be racist if we like!
U.S. Bishops came out against nuclear weapons in the 80’s. How dare they!
All throughout last year’s health care fight, the U.S. Conference of Catholic bishops repeatedly stated they were for universal health care, and pleaded for proper healthcare for immigrants, even illegal ones. (Even though your lying weasel of a Representative, Patrick Kennedy, denied it).
President Obama at Notre Dame smirks and reveals how closely he worked with Cardinal Bernardin in Chicago on social issues. Hand in glove with “THE VATICAN!” It’s a dark conspiracy!
John Paul II comes out against the death penalty or against the war in Iraq – The Magisterium trying to impose itself on America! It must be stopped!
Wait a minute! What’s this? You mean about all these atempts by the Vatican to “impose its ideology” on America — there is NOT ONE PEEP from anyone on the left!?
Why, everyone thinks this is just great! In fact, they are glad to have the Vatican as their ally in all human rights issues.
Then the instant it comes to abortion – we are “imposing our ideology” we are letting a “foreign power” invade and destroy our freedom!!!! (Can’t believe you’re still putting any faith in that 19th century Know-Nothing junk).
Give me a break. If it’s OK for Catholic bishops to speak all these other things, then they have the same right to speak about abortion. To accept the Church’s help on all these other human rights issues, and then deny that it has the right to speak about another teaching on human rights just because you happen not to like what they say is blatant hypocrisy.
And by the way, the Church does have the right to discipline or excommunicate whoever they like. It is an internal church policy dealing solely with the status of its members within the Church. It is and should be protected by the first Amendment. You can console yourself with the thought that the excommunications are never going to happen anyway. Plus Pelosi and Kennedy would become Episcopalians before they would ever think of obeying their bishops.
This one’s work at least $2 for its particularly egregious stupidity. That’s a grand total of $7 so far. All in one day! I’ll send the money direclty to my diocesan pro-life fund.
Excellent comment, Lori. It’s so true, and we see it all the time. It’s OK for the Vatican or any other religious organization to be on the side of liberals, but when they’re on the conservative side of an issue, it’s World War III and the evil “Xians” must be stopped before we’re all slaves!
I have only one thing to add – and that is that CC continues to repeat the nonsense that those who are in a state of mortal sin are denied the Eucharist by anyone other than themselves. As I have said repeatedly, Catholic teaching, which comes straight from the pen of St. Paul, is that anyone who receives the Eucharist unworthily eats and drinks judgment upon himself. A bishop is obligated to inform public mortal sinners that they face the wrath of God if they present themselves for Communion without first seeking Absolution. If the bishop didn’t do that, he wouldn’t be a good bishop.
CC,
Where Catholicism is concerned, you would be out of your depth in a rain puddle. I’ve met Lori, who has her doctorate in this stuff. Believe me when I tell you that she could eat you as an appetizer.
You come off as neither rebellious, nor avant garde, but shallow and foolish.
The Church doesn’t try to set policy or control voting. The Church is telling the politicians to get off the fence. It is in the bishop’s realm of pastoral care to tell a member of his flock that the member’s behavior constitutes material and/or formal cooperation in grave evil (like protecting the institution that has claimed 53 million defenseless babies).
The Church tells the politician that their public behavior cannot conflict with their private faith, and that stepping down from office is a far better thing than voting for mass murder. Such a move has no effect on who will replace that politician, and how the replacement would vote.
But I doubt you grasp that, because it doesn’t fit your outsider’s perspective, your truncated, arrested 12 year old faith formation, or your catechetical commentary from the front page and editorial page of the New York Times.
Thanks, John and Gerald. I doubt CC is listening though. As usual when things get tough, she seems to rememer she has emergency heart surgery scheduled and is gone for some time. She’ll be back, but none the wiser, I’m afraid.
You don’t understand the dynamics of relationships, do you, Eric?
I couldn’t agree more if the relationships to which you refer involve getting naked with someone before knowing if they are a loser or not. Nope, can’t say I understand that.
Haha! Zing! Well said, Eric. :D
CC,
Believe what you will, but the truth remains that He loves you and wants you in His arms again.
good posts everyone. CC – we are praying for you in all kinds of ways!
Lori P. GREAT post. I am not Catholic but I remember untold numbers of Catholic priests and nuns who were on the front lines of the Civil Rights Marches with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and were in the March on Washington. If it were the “racist, hate-filled, mean-spirited” church that CC tries to paint the Catholic church these things would have never happened. She needs some serious help and I will pray with the rest of you Christian pro-lifers, Catholic and Protestant, for her salvation. God bless you all.
Eric –
Watch it, buddy. It is quite one thing to say that the unplanned pregnancy could have been avoided by waiting til marriage and/or not denying that sex equals babies. It is another to in essence call this unnamed 45 yo woman stupid. Sometimes we do not actually know someone is a “loser” until it is too late and we are in the thick of it.
My friend watched her formerly faithful hubby cheat on her after only a few years of marriage. Personally, when I found myself being slapped around while pregnant and married, it came as quite a surprise. The “patient and loving” man I had known for years had seemingly vanished.
Relationships are complicated!
I agree all relationships can be complicated. Interactions among people can get especially complicated if one falsely accuses others of crimes such as, for example, calling someone stupid rather than recognize the discussion was about the behavior. Just sayin’.
