- Matthew Hennessey on the unnaturalness of abortion:
(Abortion) is a lot of things. Natural, it is not.Yet, somehow the politics of this have gotten all turned around. The greenies are in league with the pro-abortion people. The same ones who promote all-natural living—organic fruits, locally-grown vegetables, hormone-free milk, free-range chickens, solar panels, wind turbines, etc. — are usually the same ones who want to make sure that women everywhere have unlimited access to synthetic compounds — gemeprost, methotrexate, mifepristone, misoprostol, etc. — that cause abortions.
- Here’s another rosy profile of Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, this time via the San Antonio Express-News.
- In the UK’s Daily Mail, Kathy Gyngell writes about the complete failure of emergency contraception to lower the pregnancy and abortion rates in Britain:
- And despite all this our teenage birth rate is still five times higher than the Netherlands, double that of France and more than twice than Germany. This cannot be right. It is quite clear now that the solution Labour’s Teenage Pregnancy Unit dreamed up is not the answer. Their idea was to halve this birth rate by 2010 by promoting the wider use of contraception and the morning-after pill. Well, it has not.
Whatever anyone thought about its potential efficacy in the past, the idea that the morning after pill protects young girls from unwanted pregnancy now lies in tatters. The medical profession’s “gold standard” Cochrane Review says there is no evidence it does. Worse, health economists from the University of Nottingham have found that emergency contraception provided free to teenagers led to a rise in unwanted teen pregnancy. And it has contributed to dramatically rising sexually transmitted infections amongst teenagers.

People always forget the second side of economics, asking how people will react. The enlightened UK apparently can’t figure out the simple rule of thumb that most people will do more safer things and less risky things. Throwing gobs of chemicals at people with the goal of reducing the natural consequences of sex only serves to give people the appearance of safety. So what to they do? They have more risky sexual encounters. Our friends need to realize people are not cogs in a machine, but do actually make choices and react dynamically to situations.
WHAT???!!!! Free contraceptives lead to more unplanned pregnancies and more STIs? YOU LIE!!! That is just another propaganda lie perpetuated by you misogynistic religious zealots! Cecile, Nancy, Barbara and Gloria have explained this over and over and over! Pull your heads out and get with the program you fools! Stop drinking the right-wing Kool-Aid and turn off your wing nut radio programs! Get your rosaries off our ovaries and stop oppressing women! OBVIOUSLY more birth control is the answer to all our societal ills you fools. You just need to shut up, write your checks to pay for my sexual freedom and trust our all-knowing president.
Oh shoot – I forgot to change my sarcasm setting to “off.” Sorry about that.
