Willful blindness to link between Detroit’s abortion/preemie crises
It is one of those obvious connections I cannot comprehend the world not seeing. Actually, liberals, media, and feminists are covering it up, which is why the rest of the world can’t see it. They’re not being told. At least 59 127 studies to date confirm that forcibly opening a woman’s cervix to commiit an induced abortion can lead to an incompetent cervix for subsequent births. Even without studies to back that fact up, it’s just common sense. Other known medical conditions than can lead to premature births and may be related to abortion include ”uterine adhesions, infection, mental stress, increased maternal age, and substance abuse,” quoting LifeIssues.net. Preemie births have skyrocketed since the legalization of abortion in the U.S. in 1973. According to the American Association of Pro-Life Gynecologists and Obstetricians:
Premature birth (birth before 37 weeks) has increased 27% since 1981. In 2007 the premature… rate in America was 12.6% of all live births (and over 17% of all African-American births).
With all that in mind, read this maddening, heartbreaking June 10 Bloomberg article:
While infant mortality fell for decades across the U.S., progress bypassed Detroit, which in 2012 saw a greater proportion of babies die before their first birthdays than any American city, a rate higher than in China, Mexico and Thailand. Pregnancy-related deaths helped put Michigan’s maternal mortality rate in the bottom fifth among states. One in three pregnancies in the city is terminated.
Women are integral to the city’s recovery. While officials have drawn up plans to eliminate blight, curb crime and attract jobs, businesses and residents, they’re also struggling to save mothers and babies. The abortion patients awaiting ultrasounds at the Scotsdale Women’s Center and the premature infants hooked to heart monitors at Hutzel Women’s Hospital must be cared for before the bankrupt city can heal itself….
That last underlined sentence is insane and barbaric, lumping together the murder of babies with the critical care of babies as the foundational means to “heal” Detroit?
A campaign called Make Your Date begun last month is the latest attempt to prevent premature births, the leading cause of infant deaths, with hormone therapy and counseling….
Detroit’s crisis is a foot on the neck of women and children. Mothers’ obesity, diabetes, poverty-related stress and poor nutrition can harm infants even before they are born.
No mention of abortion, the elephant in the room.
Abortion kills future Black siblings
While the raw number of births declined with the population, children have grown more likely to be raised in female-headed households, in high-poverty neighborhoods and to rely on public assistance… Blacks composed 84 percent of residents in 2010, according to the census. Black babies in neighborhoods with the lowest poverty level are more likely to die than white infants in neighborhoods with the highest poverty, according to a state report last year. In 2010, non-whites made up 21% of MI’s population but 43% of infant deaths. “Reducing these disparities requires an explicit focus on the role of race,” the report said.
One obvious answer would be to encourage self-respect and abstinence among Detroit’s black youth. This would go a long way toward solving Detroit’s abortion crisis, premature birth crisis, and poverty crisis.
Abortion surge
The end of many Detroit pregnancies is intentional.
In 2012, Detroit women had 5,693 abortions out of 18,249 pregnancies, according to state statistics. The rate rose to 37.9 per 1,000 women that year, up from 27.5 in 2001….
Abortion patients from Detroit said in interviews last week that they were unable to afford birth control.
“I can make ends meet, but have no room to save,” said Cook, who was 12 weeks and four days pregnant.
Her father and two friends helped pay the $275 she owed for the procedure at the Scotsdale Women’s Center on the northwest side, she said, and her sister drove her there.
It’s utter fallacy to claim a woman cannot afford birth control. There’s government funding for free contraception through various means.
Whatever, the 60-year push to have wanton sex, using contraception to prevent pregnancy, has proven to be an utter failure.
Many women don’t learn about family planning, or are encouraged by peers or relatives to have babies when young or unmarried, said Danita Jackson, a social worker at Cody High School. She recalled a tearful talk with a 15-yr-old who bore a second child 10 months after her first.
That’s just nuts Promoting self-respect and abstinence should be a no brainer. But sexual freedom is the Left’s holy grail, and the hoops it will encourage people to jump through rather than teach those virtues are dangerous and deadly.
“I can make ends meet, but have no room to save,” said Cook, who was 12 weeks and four days pregnant.
Her father and two friends helped pay the $275 she owed for the procedure at the Scotsdale Women’s Center on the northwest side, she said, and her sister drove her there.
And this statement – very obviously making ZERO mention of the father of this preborn child – should be a neon sign as to what the REAL PROBLEM is.
The woman is expected to provide birth control herself. The guy who got her pregnant just deposited his sperm and walked away, no problem at all.
Please, please tell me how this is empowering to a woman – the fact that she is left holding the responsibility for everything that might result from sex with a person who is obviously not committed to her. Or in this case, her father, two friends, and a sister were put in the position of aiding and abetting the murder of a preborn child and the harming of their friend/daughter/sister.
Abortion is not solving ANYTHING. Wake up.

Funny this was posted today as Super Kmart is asking for donations 1$ to the March of Dimes. I told them no twice because they also give to the abortion industry. Gosh Ik they did. I hope Im still right. Anyway indeed I know women who have had problems with pregnancy after abortion(s) 2 will never be able to even become pregnant again d/t hysterectomies.

Indeed March of Dimes is in good graces of PP and I told the female cashier about it. She was a pretty African American girl and she responded “Really?” I dont want people to think Im tight with my $ over babies but PP isnt getting a dime. Also I said no to Susan Komen years ago at a cookie sale. That was much easier.

Also we have a lot of preemies born in Cleveland and imagine where their 2 biggest NICUs are..The 2 PC hospitals that also perform abortions!!!!!

Heather, I don’t know if the March of Dimes directly gives money to the abortion industry, but they refuse utterly to speak out against abortion as a potential cause of premature births, saying in publications that there is no link between abortions and future premature pregnancies. Until they stop bowing to the abortion industry, whether they provide money to them or not, and actually *tell* people that avoiding abortions greatly decreases their likelihood of future premature babies/admit the link between abortions and premature birth, I will refuse to help support them. It’s just like all that Breast Cancer pink mess, even if they didn’t give money to PP, they refuse to admit the ABC link despite the evidence and their publications state that there is no link between hormonal contraception and increased risk of breast cancer. Until they actually warn women away from something that actively increases their risk of the disease they claim to be trying to cure, I won’t give them a penny.

Glad ya’ll brought up the March for Dimes. I didn’t have space in the article. But March for Dimes refuses to acknowledge a link between abortion and the preemie babies they say they’re trying to save. So I won’t give them any donations either.

Hi Jespren I cant post the link but I looked it up. March of Dimes IS in bed with PP.

Yet another link says that The March of Dimes has a neutral position on abortion. Could you tell me why before I give to your organization?

Couldn’t this woman’s partner even afford a pack of condoms?

Those on the left say this about those on the right about climate change.
I just find it so funny and interesting to see how people selectively use science when it feels good for them, and ignores it when it doesn’t.

Phillymiss I was going to post the same thing. A pack of condoms is cheap. Lets say a large box is 12$ abortion cost…almost 300$

Not to mention you may now have an STD or infection.

“At least 59 studies to date confirm that forcibly opening a woman’s cervix to commiit an induced abortion can lead to an incompetent cervix for subsequent births.” – no they don’t. They show some sort of statistical correlation, not cause. Any other potential contributing factors haven’t been addressed.
“Even without studies to back that fact up, it’s just common sense.” – there is no ‘fact’ backed up by the studies. Wishful thinking =/= common sense.
What happened in 2008? That’s when the clear rise began according to the chart above. There seems to be barely any comparison between the charts. Why did Michigan have an increase in preemies without an increase in abortions?

Increase in preemies usually means there could have been a prior abortion!

I’m cautiously skeptical anytime I hear correlating cause & effect. Repeat with me children, correlation does not equal causation & until direct causation is proved for this specific example, I’ll remain cautiously skeptical.

But the Detroit News says abortion is “safe.” They even said so twice in their May 22 article.

Madonna had 11 abortions. She was not able to deliver either one of her bio children naturally and almost died during the birth of Rocco….nah no link between abortion and a damaged cervix.

Heather,
I’m not questioning the link-causation between abortion and prematurity, as it’s been demonstrated in numerous studies. No, I’m questioning how correlating Detroit’s abortion rate with Detroit’s premie rate indicates causation – that the abortions are directly to blame when there are numerous factors & no solid evidence indicating causation between the two (again, correlation does not equal causation). Nor does single anecdotes make for good evidence. I’m putting this nicely, I’m seeing you lean too much on single anecdotal stories in leu of a stronger evidence or argument and it’s quite annoying, besides you have lots of good ideas & thoughtsv& could better.

“I’m not questioning the link-causation between abortion and prematurity, as it’s been demonstrated in numerous studies.” – no it has not. Only statistical correlations have been shown. No cause. Other possible causes such as diet, lifestyle or location have not been addressed.
If there is a causal link, how is the Michigan data explained – a flat abortion rate with a slight then large increase in preemies.

Oh no thats okay ladybug…thanks for the compliment anyway. Im not saying that ALL premies are born because of abortion nor was I trying to argue with you. Sometimes when a thought pops into my mind I just go with it.

After watching an abortion….( a couple of them on You Tube ) you can see how the cervix is forced open. A post abortive friend of mine required a stitch in her cervix because her doctor felt she wouldnt carry to term without it. Another friend had 2 c sections because her cervix wouldnt open to allow for a natural delivery. Was it because of her abortion? Idk. I am not an OB nurse.

There seems to be barely any comparison between the charts
On several levels. First point to note is that the two graphs do not use the same scale. In the graph of preemie births, the distance from one line to another represents a change of 2 percent. In the graph of abortions, the distance from one line to another represents a change of one half of a percent. So, for the abortion example, it looks like there was just under a 1% increase in the number of women who had an abortion between 2009 and 2012 (the low before abortion reached its present peak), while there was a 3% increase in the number of preemie births in the same time period. The earlier two peaks in the abortion rate, in 2002 and 2008, are not correlated to an increase in preemie births.
The main reason that these two graphs do not support Jill’s assertion is that they represent two entirely different things: the permillage of women who have abortions, and the percentage of babies born prematurely. We have no idea whether the increase in preemie births represents an increase in the number of women who give birth to preemies. For example: In a five-year period, a cohort of ten women collectively have two abortions and two preemie births. In the next five years, the same cohort has three abortions and three preemies. Someone who does not understand statistics would claim that the increase in preemie births is caused by the increase in abortion on the unsubstantiated premise that three women have had abortions and three women have had preemie births. But let’s posit that further investigation shows that in the second five years, three women had abortions, one woman had one preemie birth, and one woman had two. In that case, someone who did not understand statistics would claim that abortion decreases the chance of preemie birth because the percentage of women who gave birth prematurely has dropped in relation to the percentage of women who had abortions.
In other words, only a comparison of two graphs that show the same thing–the number of women who had the medical outcomes in question–has the potential to demonstrate correlation. Though not, as has been said above, causation.
A real journalist would know that, incidentally.
What happened in 2008? That’s when the clear rise began according to the chart above.
Access to contraception. It’s an utter fallacy to say that women can afford birth control because the government funds free contraception. The reality is that Michigan’s funding of family planning/contraception has dropped about 85% since 2006. Eighty thousand clients have lost access to subsidized family planning, meaning that they are probably now relying on less expensive and less reliable methods like condoms. LisaC,
If it were found that abortion caused a woman to lose her eyesight, you’d still support it.

LisaC, If abortion caused women to go blind, would you want it to become illegal?

Praxedes, if some forms of blindness could be prevented by having an abortion would you still want it to become illegal?

LOL. I don’t support killing one segment of the population so another segment of the population has a better quality of life.
That would be the proaborts ideology — less of you just means more for me.
Waiting on LisaC.

So you’re comfortable with people going blind, ok.
If an abortion could prevent someone from developing an absolutely fatal condition would you still want abortion to become illegal?

LisaC is not on call 24/7, but the answer to your question is that I support the practice of evidenced-based medicine that follows protocols developed by qualified professional groups. I don’t support misrepresentation of data and use of faulty logic.

So in simpler terms. Yes, LisaC would support abortion even if it caused women to go blind.
Dead babies. No matter what.
